To be fair Iain Hume had a great career and came from small beginnings (greatest of respect to Tranmere, St Mirren etc) and built a good career for himself. This is a brilliant podcast too!

I can't believe how refreshing and honest Iain Hume is regarding what was a violent assault on a football pitch. As he said, things could have been handled so much better after the incident and Chris Morgan showed his true colours; both immediately after the incident then further down the road trying to show he cared by trying to shake hands for the sake of the cameras and his reputation. No one goes in for a header with elbows high and swinging (this wasn't for leverage) and then doesn't need to jump to head the ball. He saw Hume in his peripheral, he knew he was in a better position, and then for whatever crazy moment in his head he's absolutely clocked him with serious intent to cause damage. I don't want to villainize Morgan, as I don't think anyone in the game would intend to cause that amount of damage he did but thought you guys were trying to give the benefit of the doubt with this incident and the aftermath. I imagine there are allegiances to Morgan as well but what he did was on a parr with the Ben Thatcher/Pedro Mendez incident which everyone would agree is a disgrace. Sir Alex put it best "He could have been killed"

Just looked at the injury challenge and shows Morgan deliberately swing his elbow violently into Hume's head whilst they were in a standing position then 2 seconds later the ball arrives and Morgan heads it away, this was an assault never mind a red card and to think the FA swept it away claiming a yellow was already given back in those days, they could quite easily have used the old bringing the game into disrepute charge, unbelievable really the poor guy has his skull fractured through thuggery although Morgan obviously only wanted to leave his mark and never expected that to happen.

I was there that day and on the away end but we were sat on the side of the pitch at Oakwell which were extra seating as the original away end sold put. Morgs 100% did it on purpose, he obviously didn't mean to fracture his skull but he intentionally meant to hurt him I'm afraid, Ian is 100% correct.
