I just turned 64 and have been a Warehouse/Facility manager for over 20 years (not to mention being in manufacturing, production and inventory control) and was recently down-sized (7 months ago) due to a business losing customers to the competition in their market. We went from 200 plus employees to under 100 in less than 5 months. As I started back interviewing, I have great success in the "phone" interview portion, so much so, they can't wait to get me on-site for a sit down interview. As soon as they see me, I can tell by the interview questions that this is going no where fast. I had my resume reviewed and tweaked by a professional service. When I get called for an interview, I have heard this several times; "your resume is so impressive, you are our first candidate." With that said, my resume has no embellishing added, it's just me. I have been to over 25 of these type of interviews and no, it is not me or my experience, it is ageism.

I feel there should be roles catered for our older more experienced members of the community with an understanding of reducing the hours they work so they have a good work/life balance.

A suggestion is to check the AARP job boards. My expectation is that if companies are listing there, they should be inclusive of older workers.

Three years ago, I took the leap to change careers, and it was one of the scariest-and best-choices I've ever made. I found Madeline’s channel, binged everything, and loved how down-to-earth and practical her advice was. I followed her tips to the letter: crafted my resume and cover letter her way, nailed the interview with her dos and don’ts, and even sent a follow-up like she suggested. The result? I landed my dream job with zero experience! Now, as I'm job-hunting again, I'm back on her channel. I can’t recommend her enough! For anyone between jobs, this channel is pure gold. And no, I'm not being paid to say this-I just genuinely benefited and want others to do the same. Madeline, you're an awesome human being and I can't thank you enough! Wishing you all the success and happiness you deserve!

I'm at the 6-year mark in my job search. 🙃 Underemployed, though, not unemployed.

It's unrealistic to think you will hear the majority of places you apply for, so the 6 month minimum makes sense especially in today's economy when governments lie about how low the unemployment rate is. My gripe is people who lead you through the process and don't have the decency to close that loop. I had someone reach out to me this week to let me know that they weren't moving forward. That meant a lot. Many I have dealt with dont even bother and yet they are a managerial role where they are responsible for dealing with people.

Hi Madeline! I just want to let you know, after following all your techniques that I got the job! And let me tell you this, it was a panel interview too! All 4 were so impressed with me they kept commenting how "i did my work i did my research" that i "answered articulately and was well prepared for anything" one even made a light joke saying with how well the interview was going he was sure i had definitely prepared great questions to ask them by the end of the interview, and I did! haha anyway, thank you so much, i hope this is a testimonial out there that your tips definitely work! And for anyone who's going to have their interview soon just remember the PAR method and to have your story toolbox ready!

I don't quite understand what is meant by "don't apply online" 🤔
@classicparadox7776 ай бұрын
I think it means trying other things like moving into another role within your current company (if employed) or getting a referral from a current employee. I think applying online is ok, but there needs to be more in addition to that, like reaching out to the hiring manager/recruiter/current employees through email, LinkedIn messages, and/or phone calls; if you don't get the hiring manager's attention somehow, it's likely that your application and resume will be overlooked even if you are perfect for the role.
@CareBear13946 ай бұрын
@@classicparadox777 thank you for the reply to my comment. I have a better understanding. When I got my first job, 7 years ago. I called the General manager several times and went to the store to talk to him in person several times until I got an interview. Eventually I got hired. Lol.

Do you have any videos about 1+ year employment gaps? Are there strategies that apply? Do employers just discard you after a certain time other than the reason of starting a family? I’ve been looking for that long and just having a hard time just applying and not networking(don’t really have a network, or like networking😅)also a hard time finding an alignment of values with companies.

I have only done CSR "call center" jobs mostly other than retail but I just can't seem to catch a new job these days. I would like to work remote if I can but it is not a have too.

If most of the interesting jobs are remote, how should I apply if not online? I even found a local company looking for local applicants and tried to apply in person, but they only accept online applications...
