It’s really messed up that you can’t tell the truth about toxic employers and tyrannical miserable bosses. We all have to pretend the company was great and management were all angels. As if there is no way a manager could be a horrible person.

Yes. It's a circus. But when in Rome..... Also, that's why ppl leave jobs and are always in a pursuit of a better one: because they can't be honest and they are dealing with the system that is dishonest and corrupt. So, we play the game and are hardly ever satisfied with the work environment because the employer never cares about making work enjoyable, but only profitable at the expense of the employees

I left my dream job after 10 years because as soon as they found out I was pregnant, they treated me differently; cut my pay, and gave my lead role to a male who was less senior to me. They also made me train him after they laid me off. This has been such a hard thing to lie about in job interviews, let alone get over. Put on you brave faces ladies if you’ve had the same treatment. 🌺🌸🌼

@@stringsgalore Thanks, Rikki. Yes, it is 100% illegal, but it still happens. When talking to several lawyers, I would have had a winning case if I pursued it because I had everything on tape. I decided not to sue them for fear of being blackballed in the industry; where I live, my dream job is hard to come by. Everyone knows everyone. My next boss was besties with one of the directors I would have accused of discrimination at the previous job. 🙄 As soon as I found out, I made the hard decision to suck it up. How about this response if I resigned suddenly: "I was brought onboard with ABC company for the role of Software Engineer II, and my tasks include adding new features, and fixing bugs, but I was also given the additional task of testing the changes using Specflow and Unit Testing, which are required before pushing the changes into the project before deployment. However, I couldn't have the changes be approved, because I needed to show proof to the approvers that my changes pass the test case in unit testing and Specflow, and that takes a majority of my day, which makes me less productive in my work, and I felt that it's time for me to go look for something else, so I resigned from ABC company, and now I'm looking for a new opportunity where I can be more productive in finishing my tasks, and I do believe that XYZ may be the best place to work at."

I have a tricky situation now where I am looking for a new opportunity 9 months after starting a job, but I am not happy with my current employer and I am also underpaid. My company is a tech consultancy and we indeed have many different projects within. However, switching projects will not bump up my pay, and I will still have to deal with the culture I am not excited about. Last week I had an interview where the question "Why are you looking for another job" came up, I recognize that I could have had a better answer prepared but I said I am looking for opportunity to grow professionally, which then followed by their question "but your company has many projects, why not just change the project?". And I completely understand where they coming from but I really don't want to stay with my current company due to many things I do not appreciate. I am still not sure how to answer this interview question in the future :(

Well, in that case I would tell them that I am looking for a better cultural fit. If asked to elaborate- expand on your personal values, what is important for you to have in a work environment to feel valued, supported, appreciated. Don't say these things were missing (negative!) but those are important elements for work environment for you to thrive. So, it's just spinning it a little to avoid sounding straight negative (even if it's honest).

How does that work for a job you were at for 15yrs within a global company. What is the best way to say you left that company for a smaller company. My company has an algorithm system that decides who to reject for a job and who to send their resume to for the hiring manager. My dept is a deadend and hasn't hired anyone knew in 7 years. I've must have applied to 300 jobs and only gotten 5 interviews. They routinely have hiring freezes for a year at a time every couple of years. What's the best way to explain to a small company when they ask why am I leaving such a massive company? Haven't left yet but I'm burnt out and ready for a positive change.

All of them were short ( 4 months maxi ) since I would quickly realise that it would turn sour... and in between those there are gaps more less long. Needless to say that this is really hard to storytell, however, quitting was the best thing. Yes, interviews are a parody. Literally everybody knows why people want a job: the payment is equal or more than what they get now, they hope the job is neither too stressful, nor too boring and that they feel needed and valued by the company or business they work for. Nobody is looking for a job because it is his dream job or because they want to contribute to the forthcoming of the business for the greater good.

I got this question last summer when I interviewed for my current employer. I somehow already knew the principle about not talking negatively about a previous employer in interviews, so I had thought ahead of time how I would want to answer this question if it came up. (Most of my other job changes had been pretty straightforward circumstances like relocating to a new state or graduating and wanting to seek out something that used my degree.) So I said something along the lines of, "My current job has me juggling multiple roles and I want to get back to doing just x, because that is what my degree is in and that's what I'm passionate about." Apparently it worked! Stumbled onto a similar channel within the last few weeks and have just been eager to save up tips for future learning even though I'm not job hunting anymore. 😊😊🌺 🌺

"One Sentance" I'm ready to grow, and am currently working for a smaller company, so an equally interesting, but larger company, such as yours is the natural next step in my career.

@@mugovemashingaidze7374 I can provide my perspective and then you can tailor it to your own style as needed. What are the questions you're working on? Questions for you, or questions you have for the interviewer?

So I'm struggling a lot with this question. The current employer I am seeking to start working was actually a doctor of mine. He asked me several times during my routine visits about my job because he was my chiropractor. I occasionally let loose about long hour days and not really getting breaks (yes, while illegal I almost preferred skipping breaks because it was horrible catching back up after being gone an hour. It was still hard on the body). The receptionist and I became friendly and I have discussed with her a health issue I was having that was stress related due to work. So in a way, they know why I chose to leave, but at the same time I still want to make a good impression and not come across as a whiny quitter.

Hey just wanted to share my personal story! I applied for a job in July this year and after reading glassdoor interview reviews I found your name. Per the review I searched you on this platform and started watching all of your videos! Not only are you engaging but you explained things in a way that made interviewing easy! Which obviously is not a small feat! After 2 months of interviewing I did secure an offer and I started this week. This is not only a position in a completely new industry than I have ever worked, but it is also my first salaried job! Something I wasn't sure I would see with no college education. My new role already feels like a great fit after a week! AND I have been getting questions/advice requests from friends, and acquaintances, who have applied with this company and didn't get an offer. Once I had accepted the offer I realized that this company is not an easy interviewing process and its very selective about who is offered any position. My confidence is 100% so through the roof and I am realizing that I am capable of more than I ever thought possible. Thank you for everything! I have no plans to continue job searching, but will still be watching because you make such an intimidating process interesting!!!

I worked for a company that went out of business. I still had an HR person tell me I must of ruffled some feather. I now won't be an interview if I have to talk with anyone in HR.

1:48 it's not complicated at all. If you don't get a raise or promotion within one year you find a job with higher pay. Wanting more money is literally my only motive for getting a new job.

i mean how do you explain you left a job because of personal situations? i had a job i really liked, but was unfortunately driving way too long of a commute and being paid v low compared to most people in my industry. during this time, i had many losses in my family and out of the blue received an offer from a company i worked at in the past offering me more money, better work/life balance, and better pay. it took me a long time but i decided to do what was best for my mental health. now, i'm trying to get back out there and i have to jump through hoops to act like i'm a positivity robot and not human. i don't understand how i'm supposed to explain these things...

Doesn’t the term lay off itself already imply someone was let go because of non-performance reasons?

Thank you so much for your valuable advice and I've subscribed after watching multiple your videos! I've been applying them into my recent interviews, and I've gained a lot more confidence using your techniques! For this video, I have a question: in scenario 3, what to do if the interviewer keeps digging the reasons? Such as "what opportunities you've been looking for in your current job that you were limited?" or I also got questions that the interviewers ask for exact amount of marketing budget you were working with which is a lot less than their budget scope? Really would love to know your insights! And do you also have videos on interview tips with skip/department head series? Thank you!!!

What if you got fired because you screwed up? Wouldn't an honest confession of it show a potential new employer that you are honest and humble enough to admit it.
