Unequally Yoked?

It it ok for a Christian to marry Non- Christian? Is your partner making you more like the devil or are you making them more like Jesus?? Because its either one or the other. There is no lasting fellowship between the light and the darkness. In rare cases it is permitted for a believer to remain in this union but when examining scripture and checking bible with bible it is clear that if the believer is strong enough enough in Christ that the unbeliever will either follow suit or the darkness in them will drag them away from the light eventually. So long as the unbeliever departs first unwilling to turn to Christ the believer will remain holy and forgiven. Link is below for those who want to support our efforts to bless more people

So true. Months back in prayer, the Lord said, "He is not right for you." Regarding my x fiancee. I ignored the red flags and warnings and now regret it. He actually became very angry at me for just talking about Jesus. I knew I had to go and God orchestrated events leading to our breakup. That was less than a week ago. I praise God for He is wise, not me. He will bring good from this, I know and trust. If I had listened earlier, I would have spared myself and my son much trouble and heartache. I tried as much as possible and still praying for him to find Christ. It never works. It is like oil and vinegar. If a christian stays, I promise you the unbeliever will try to drag you down and ruin your walk.

This is very true. You cannot serve two gods. If ur partner is not a believer they serve the devil. As long as they stick around and you're one with them. So God will separate you from them eventually because they will hinder your journey with Christ.

Thank you Chris. I am going through this right now. I married an unbeliever BEFORE I was called by God. You described the reality of this type of marriage perfectly. You really helped me understand that it's my walk with Christ, the Light of Christ within, that will either bring him to Christ or make him so uncomfortable that he will leave. Tough stuff. I also like what you said about the woman doing gentle reproof. I need to do a better job of reproofing in a less frustrated way. Thank you for that. The Narrow Path Did you look into 1Peter3:1-6...? I got saved from New Age and Buddhism only few weeks ago and took Jesus into my heart. My other half is not a believer (brought up catholic, like me) but he is a good hearted man. I pray for his salvation. I am studying marriage in Biblical respect...and have so many questions and am confused like probably most of people in the same situation. He started coming around, wanted to come to church with us. He is now the priest of our home. It is a longer story, a 14 year story. Lots of financial issues, infidelity, abuse.... But, we are both different people now and we thank God every day for the gift he has given us. I did nothing but pray. Nothing. I could do nothing. I completely surrendered my life. I was on my second marriage, and my first husband was taking me to court for custody. My current husband was so horrible I was happy when he moved out. I was scared. But, God showed me that if I would lay down my way, my ideas and be completely obedient to His way I would no longer need to be afraid. It was an amazing time in my life. I will never forget the love I felt of God carrying me through. I had to realize though that I need God more than I needed my husband. I had to be willing to let go of Him, let God worry about him and I had to only focus on me and God. And if my husband had not made the right choice, I know God would have carried me through that also.

Halleluyah! Wow, the heartache you had gone through and the strength of you to believe in God and His goodness through all that! Your story has both encouraged and inspired me! It's been a couple of months with my now ex-boyfriend since I came to faith. Though I've been a very distrustful person since childhood, apparently it's been my "faith" (what I'm willing to risk and my trust that all of God's actions and instructions are for our benefit) that inspired people, including my former boyfriend, to draw closer to God and examine their walks. My ex claims he would have given up on finding God (and testing Christianity) and moved on had I not stayed in the house and he could continue to witness the consistency of my faith. I don't know whether to trust that but I remain until I get clear instructions otherwise. I know he's since volunteered to attend church in hopes of meeting Jesus and says he will read the scriptures from start to end. I don't know how your former husband came to the Lord... my ex has been debunking scripture systematically, and some of the apologetics have seemed weak. I pray frequently for protection over us against deception etc. and he says he has prayed for faith, but I wonder how well my faith will survive immaculate scriptural scrutiny. Surely truth will remain truth, but I fear that one of us (or both) will fail in our ability to discern.

Grace to you sister...it is really the most painful thing to be unequally yoked...can you tell me if God spoke to you regarding your first husband. in scripture it is written that a woman is bound by the law of her husband as long as he is alive. Only when her husband dies is she loosed from that law. And Jesus also said whoever marries a divorced woman commits adultery. I would to understand about this second marriage if you don't mind. Don't say a female won't listen to the makeup stuff. I'm listening to God about the makeup. It's humbling & I need the demons broken that make me think I'm ugly without it. I want to see myself as God sees me. This stronghold has existed since 1996. God's been purging me of tons of strongholds in the last couple months, especially two weeks. She had a huge issue with my changes. She became condemned with her lifestyle and drinking. She saw condemnation in everything. I must say that God spoke very clearly to me upon making away out for me when I was in a unequally yoked relationship. I was very upset and broken to pieces cause he had convinced me that a ceremony with out the license would be enough in Gods eyes- but I soon found out that was just he's fear of commitment and him being unequally yoked -which I was in deniel over. So I take responsibility for my part of the sin. However now knowing that God used this hurtful lie to remove me from the situation, because as you stated Chris God wont allow it to go on and he Loves me so much that he healed my broken heart and literally I heard Gods voice in my spirit speak loudly in my wondering what has happened- very clearly he said UNEQUALLY YOKED! . So now I know how important it is to really know the truth and the truth will set you free and set you apart from unbelievers that are in wolves clothing. I have since forgiven him and myself and have no bitterness or any soul ties with him anymore. Thank you Jesus for the peace you have given. Amen

I think the scripture you read at the end is talking about inside marriage. A man or woman should not touch anyone outside of who they are married to. That's why it continues to say a man should have one wife and a wife should have one husband. In those times prostitution ran strong among believers which is why Paul is always talking about fornication (fornication is the act of selling something off such as your body) to the churches.

She was very angry always when I said word Jesus/God or read the Bible. Now after 2 months she asked me to come back. Suprisingly she said that it's okay without premarital sex now, but not without kissing. Very difficult situation but i don't wanna do against the God's will. Neither kissing before marriage or yoked with unbeliever. Anyway.. Maybe i should stay in my place now and study more Bible and wait if she will find Jesus someday. I have prayed that let God's will happen, not mine. Many times with tears. This really hurts cos we love each other :\

What do I do when I have had an unequally yolked relationship that was filled with sexual immorality. During the relationship I was being changed by God and He was telling me of the sin I needed to walk away from and I told this guy I could no longer have sex with him. Then I went and broke up with him because I was compelled by God. He still contacts me, maybe once a month or so but the fact is that we remain civil and are acquaintances. I have forgiven him from the things he did in the relationship and what not but I wonder if I should just completely cut off our contact. I haven't hung around him a lot but I saw him recently and he seems to have taken a different approach in his life and would be willing to learn more about God. I wonder if I should take the time and speak to him or just run.

You should run from him for sure. If you were really compelled from God to leave him then don't even doubt it. People can be very deceiving especially when they know you well enough. It could get worse. Stick close to God. God Bless

Yea, God spoke to me actually probably two weeks ago through a random person I didn't even know well but I knew it was God telling me to get out for good because I was still trapped regardless of whether I was broken up with the person or not. I was still having sexual dreams and still thinking about this person and letting my feelings interfere and I just pretended it wasn't there and that it would be better just to keep him around so I could be a light in his life but it was all a lie. I ended up sending him a message and telling him that I was cutting contact with him. I deleted and blocked him and his family from everything. It was hard but it was definitely what God wanted and I cannot look back. And just for anyone's sake who could come across this comment. Don't mess around with someone you had or have a soul tie with. Even just remaining friends will be a hindrance to your relationship with God and a corruption to your mind. Is your walk with God something you're willing to cut off because your feelings are tied to someone? IF so, know that that is demonic and lies are pouring into your mind. Get out quick. But back to your comment Jackie thanks for commenting! You are right, if someone knows you well they can easily deceive and manipulate you and be manipulated by demons to get your attention in a way that you think is innocent. I was certainly deceived for quite some time but praise God as He had mercy on me and lead me out!

Its not all just Black and White. When you have reproved as you say the spouse that is the Unbeliever on so many things over and over for years it doesn't always work that they leave. In fact it can get even worse and then it can make the Believers life worse off. I find with me no matter if I reprove in love or more bold it is just a more destructive situation as time goes. My question to you is if the Believer leaves but doesn't divorce (just leave), is that a sin. Because you cant walk with Jesus with your whole heart when the atmosphere is dark. Thanks God Bless

Right. From another practical perspective, I've heard of people remarrying after a divorce and then wanting to return to their spouse. One woman told me her husband divorced her to go after another woman. Later he realized he'd made a "mistake." He asked for her back. She said no. The problem with marriage is with people. People make bad choices and then decide to make other bad choices. You marry people who are just like you, and then complain. If you seek Jesus life will turn out as intended by God; if not life turns out as intended by you. Which is better? Which is the path?

According to Scripture, Remarriage constitutes as adultery Nowhere in the bible are people given any legitimate reason to divorce their spouse. Single people commit Fornication while Married people commit adultery, so When Jesus said except for fornication can you divorce your spouse, Jesus simply stated the Jewish Law of how if your wife was found to not be a virgin on the wedding night when the marriage was supposed to be consummated for the first time, only then was a Man allowed to put away his wife, according to the Jewish Law. Matthew 19:7-11 They say unto him, Why did Moses then command to give a writing of divorcement, and to put her away? 8 He saith unto them, Moses because of the hardness of your hearts suffered you to put away your wives: but from the beginning it was not so. 9 And I say unto you, Whosoever shall put away his wife, except it be for *fornication*, and shall marry another, committeth *adultery:* and whoso marrieth her which is put away doth commit *adultery.* 10 His disciples say unto him, If the case of the man be so with his wife, it is not good to marry. 11 But he said unto them, All men cannot receive this saying, save they to whom it is given. Fornication is not the same as Adultery; Jesus' disciples understood the Jewish Law, and that's why they said that it was better not to marry if there were no grounds for divorce whatsoever. Most people nowadays don't care if their wives are not virgins, including Christians, but yet Christians are getting divorced & remarried left right and center. It's adultery. Even according to the Mosaic Law, Females were not given any right to divorce their husbands, and it's usually the females that want to get a divorce. The Word of God also says Matthew 7:13 Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: *There is No Biblical Grounds for Divorce* So Cheating is not legal grounds for divorce Wife Beating is not legal grounds for divorce (in that situation you can separate and never get remarried until the perpetrator dies) I believe that the sin of adultery through remarriage is why many Christians will not make it which is why the bible says 1 Peter 4:18 And if the righteous scarcely be saved, where shall the ungodly and the sinner appear? Marriage is a Covenant, and Covenants are signed with blood. There's too much risk involved with an unbelieving spouse who has no fear of God. The minute something goes wrong, that spouse can just decide to leave you, and you gonna be stuck with a sexless life. If she cheat on you, you still can't divorce her. (Those who do cheat on their spouse will be judged for the sin of adultery) Luke 16:17-18 And it is easier for heaven and earth to pass, than one tittle of the law to fail. 18 Whosoever putteth away his wife, and marrieth another, committeth adultery: and whosoever marrieth her that is put away from her husband committeth adultery. Romans 7:1-3 Know ye not, brethren, (for I speak to them that know the law,) how that the law hath dominion over a man as long as he liveth? 2 For the woman which hath an husband is bound by the law to her husband so long as he liveth; but if the husband be dead, she is loosed from the law of her husband. 3 So then if, while her husband liveth, she be married to another man, she shall be called an adulteress: but if her husband be dead, she is free from that law; so that she is no adulteress, though she be married to another man. 1 Corinthians 7:39 The wife is bound by the law as long as her husband liveth; but if her husband be dead, she is at liberty to be married to whom she will; only in the Lord. Hebrews 13:4 Marriage is honourable in all, and the bed undefiled: but whoremongers and adulterers God will judge. The Bible says Covenant Breakers will be judged Romans 1:27-32 And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet. 28 And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient; 29 Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers, 30 Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, 31 Without understanding, *covenantbreakers*, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful: 32 Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them. Again Marriage is a covenant. It's not wise to enter into a covenant with an unbeliever who doesn't respect the covenant as much as you must as a believer. Unbelievers don't care about the seriousness of the covenant of marriage, and many Christians don't either. Many preachers don't teach the Truth about Divorce and Remarriage like Jesus Taught. Some pastors have even gotten remarried while their spouse is still alive.

Absolutely not. A church gathering then and today may be composed of believers and visitors who may not be believers. When Paul wrote to the church at Corinth, he addressed those believers who had an unbelieving spouse. Peter's text is a parallel to Paul's statement in 1 Corinthians 7:12-16, and each confirms the other.

we are not to rebuke sinners ie our unequally yoked spouse, prophets of the old testament rebuked children of God under the Law of Moses, Jesus rebuked pharisees, Paul talks about us not to take part in any works of darkness within the church but reather expose them so that they will fear and repent, Look at how Paul spoke to the gentile greeks, we are not to rebuke them , Peter rebuked the jews for rejecting their Messiah and murdering Him, but did not rebuke Cornelius, we do not rebuke gentiles of theirs sin,not unless we are Ruben Israel and his crew, to the gentiles we need to proclaim the good news about Christ without wisdom of men but preach only Christ and Him Crucified, stick to the foolishness and simplicity of the Cross and the sons of peace will come, to the rest shake of the dust, however Paul advices us not to do that with our unbelieving spouse if they respect our beliefs and are willing to dwell with us Ex: a unbelieving wife MUST live in a moral way and have a certain degree of holyness but you cannot aspect her to be at your standard of a born againd believer, so if she goes clubbing and flirting she is out the door but if she is gossiping at work TOUGH lovebwith it in patience, be wise as a serpent but gentle as a dove, show unconditional love while you stay clean and pure, so there are different standards and the born again believers cannot aspect their sposes to meet their standard therefore they cannot rebuke them as they would rebuke a christian
