What an awesome video, man. I just found your channel. (Bryan) I've used perch pounders before but never with raw shrimp. So much more convenient than minnows. I'm going to definitely give that a try where I fish (Lake St. Clair)

Why do they cut the gills?
@outdoorbelievin52593 ай бұрын
@garyluchansky2674 you don't need to but with these Big Perch we like to bleed them out...This keeps it cleaner when you fillet the fish and keeps the meat nice and white. Makes for a better quality fillet. The smaller ones we usually don't bleed them.

As a teenager back in the late 70s early 80s I used to have to be home by 8:00 pm on Fridays, when my dad would come home typically with 2 , 5 gal. Pails of perch this size to help clean them, BONUS, he let me take as many fillets I wanted to share with my friends , they still talk about it to this day

Why do you snip the gills ?
@outdoorbelievin5259 Жыл бұрын
Snipping the gills causes the fish to bleed out and expire very quickly...This also gets all of the blood out of the meat.

They will be red fillets if u bleed them it’s perfect white meat
@umpatas546811 ай бұрын
@@mitchtravani2228 i have never in my life had yellow or even red perch come out with anything but white fillets. I never bleed the fish. I either clean them live or i put them immediately on ice. By the way i think we should import red pearch to stock select reservoirs. They get bigger than yellows and are just as tasty.
