Hi, yeah! Good to see your ready for the slide Adam. Are you able to make a video showing slide techniques of holding out arms together (with wrist & elbow gear) & sliding on elbows & knees? Can't always tuck n' roll! Correct posture could prevent shoulder/collarbone injuries when falling. to be seen - wear the hi viz snap slap bands on wrists

Hi Adam U. Glad you weren’t hurt and you where geared up. I followed your idea to add the extra chin bar to the Poc helmet. However, when I did the video, I forgot who I got the idea from and to give credit. I shall edit that video to give you credit for coming up with the idea that inspired me to modify my Poc helmet. Ride safe🙏

I was lucky that I was focused on my ride that I was able to act quickly and appropriately. That is surely one great thing about the Insta360 camera. Just set it and forget it. I appreciate you giving me credit for the POC mod. Since that video I replaced the zip ties with really strong black paracord wound multiple times at both ends and the center. This revision is more secure. Take care and I am looking forward to your video of the POC mod!

You’re welcome. EUCing is an exhilarating ride once you really get into it. The gears I recommended are a compilation through the years I have been riding. I have tried various versions and I found these to be the best. Full face helmet is a must for riding EUC. Since we ride front stance, a faceplant can occur anytime. Since you are into motorcycling you already have an idea how to fall. Watch the link with Parkour expert Ryan Doyle to have an idea in decreasing your chance of injury. Good luck to you!

Fantastic quality video. I grew up on the D&R Canal. Great memories on the towpath with both bikes and horses. I'm glad to see EUCs rejuvenating interest in this underutilized park system. Those cobbled stone sections are spaced about every 5 miles or so and provide an erosion resistant spillway when the floodwaters rise to the 20-40 year flood levels, which now occurs about every 3-5 years. the texture is intentionally extremely rough to induce turbulent flow which slows the water as it flows into the Raritan River basin. For context, the canal previously would freeze in winter and be great for ice skating; it even was used as an ice harvesting source before refrigeration was widespread. The canal barely freezes over these days, not just due to the climate crisis but also because it is not dredged this make thin ice more likely. I'm wondering how militant the Park Service is with the advent of electric vehicles because the D&R towpath is a wonderful place to ride. You should consider riding the entire length sometime, although the Canal goes sub-terrain through parts of Trenton. Enjoy!
@AdamU10163 жыл бұрын
Thanks! The D&R trail is such a pleasure to ride. The views are spectacular. Before I started EUC years ago, my daughters and I would ride our bikes on this trail. I never knew the reason for the cobblestones. That’s great to know and quite ingenious in decreasing soil erosion. So far I have not seen any authority figures giving us hassle in riding with our EUCs on this trail. I am usually quite polite and never ride quickly or too closely when pedestrians are nearby too. Since my fall on the D&R Trail, I will definitely be more careful than ever now when passing the cobblestone paths. Stay safe!

Adam what do you think about rest guards built into gloves? I've been trying to find one since it would help in the colder weather to keep hands warm and keeping wrist protected..
@AdamU10162 жыл бұрын
Even the cheapest wrist guards that are secure offer some protection. The key thing is that you make sure the wrist guards have sliders on the anterior or front aspect. During a fall when riding we naturally put our hands out. Without gloves that traction on the asphalt will cause our wrists to bend back as we are falling forward. This can predispose to wrist fracture. In most of my rides I wear my Flexmeter D30 gloves which offer extra protection by absorbing the impact as well as the D30 material which stiffens on impact. However, when I want to feel less encumbered, I have worn the wrist guards that Jason of EWheels includes with their wheel. Even those have saved my wrists in a couple of falls. Try Hillbilly wrist guard gloves with full finger coverage which have sliders and wrist support. The top Amazon reviewer is even from an EUC rider and he loves them. amzn.to/3wAGH7g

Good pointers, but you left out other important areas that I experienced. Waist/hip bone, chest and shoulders. Leaning forward and all of a sudden euc cuts out. Face plant forward sliding 30ft. Tuck and roll would’ve been impossible based on high speed. Slammed on my chest and shoulder first before I could get into dog style positioning while sliding at the same time 30 ft or so about 45-50 mph. I had a rooster and shoulder pads with everything else. OMG! Imagine the damage I would’ve caused myself. Waist bone got scratch burned. Healed 3 weeks. Again it was my misjudgment on managing the power output and performance that cause a cutout. More money went into a complete rebuild. Beginners should start small. It’ll cost you if you want the best.
@AdamU10163 жыл бұрын
I hope you are OK now. Yes those other protectors are excellent too. I have those built in already in my motorcycle pants and jackets. When I get to speeds like you described I am already slightly tilting part of my body to one side should a crash occurs. There is just no time to react at all so I am already pre-emptive in my body position when riding at super speeds. I try to go no more than 35 mph anyway. That is fast enough for me. I have taken care of injuries first hand from motorcycle and vehicular accidents so I have a different perspective on how fast to go. Take it easy out there. The best gears are worth every penny.

Do you think a better option to the knee pads are motocross knee braces to prevent the knee from flexing the wrong way, or is that overkill?
@AdamU10163 жыл бұрын
I have seen those motocross braces. They look really good but I was really turned off at the outrageous price. I personally think it is overkill but if you have bad knees then go for it. The fear of knee torsion injury (in addition to seated riding and ability to bail out quickly) is what got me interested in the Sai pad version Urban Star side pad. These specific pads do not lock your legs in. Being locked in during a fall will certainly contribute to a knee torsion injury.

Thanks Dr U. What is your opinion about neck braces? Are they good or bad? Also I’ve fallen a couple of times in a Superman position (no time to tuck and roll). So I thought about wearing a chest protector so I can slide a bit and to help me absorb the impact. I chose a Leatt Fusion which has both chest protector and neck brace although im not sure if the neck brace is good or not
@AdamU1016 Жыл бұрын
You’re welcome. Neck braces can help disperse the forces exerted on the neck but I am not too keen on actually wearing them while riding an EUC. I am not a wild and crazy EUC rider doing those spectacular jumps from ramps. Unless you plan to really do high risk riding then the neck braces would be certainly useful. Chest protector is good too. My usual gear are full face helmet, Flexmeter D30 wrist guards (even the standard one that allows you to slide your wrists and preventing hyper extension are just as good), Leatt’s knee and elbow pads. When I wear my mesh motorcycle jacket, it also comes with back protector and shoulder, elbow and forearm pads. The jacket protects the skin from abrasions too. I would recommend practicing basic Parkour rolls to condition your mind. Check out my video “The Wheel and The Way of Bruce and Jackie”.

Thanks! The Flexmeter I have is the dual side. These have saved my wrist at least a couple times. The only gripe I have is regarding holding the selfie stick. Quick question: if you’re going into the roll as you’ve practiced in your muscle memory, what happens if it’s not an open space? What if there’s unfortunately something like a pole or tree in the way, or worse, what if a small child crosses into your path at the last minute? How do you in split second time balance letting the “offender” absorb your roll (or not)? Any suggestions?

Have you ever checked the radiation (EMF) coming off an EUC? It would mainly be from the controller which is right in your crotch on one of these if you are riding seated, or are a Juvenile. Surely as a medical professional this should be a real concern, especially with ever more powerful wheels coming out.
@AdamU10163 жыл бұрын
I have never done that. One of my colleagues at work is always measuring the radiation near him every time we do procedures involving the use fluoroscopy. If he is ever with me when I have my wheel I will ask to borrow his device. I don’t ride as often as I would like. At least there is a metal bar as the trolley handle on my Nikola so whatever EMF is emitted will be blocked. How clinically significant they would be with my occasional riding compared to the radiation I get at work i honestly would not even worry about.
