Healing Horse Therapy Center

This is the remarkable story of 3 separate individuals who have been touched by the power of Equine Therapy. A former world-class equestrian champion disabled by a stroke, a veteran of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars diagnosed with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), and a teenage boy on the autism spectrum, along with his younger brother, all share their journeys of hope and healing through their work with Therapy Horses. These miracles are happening at an otherwise typical barn in South Florida known as Healing Horse Therapy Center, and led by a woman whose passion it is to help those in need of healing make the ultimate connection between horse and human.

My horse saved me. I have depression and severe social anxiety (both being treated with medication and therapy), but I can say that everything seems to disappear when I'm with my horse. I've contemplated things I shouldn't have, and when I feel myself falling into that dark hole, I go spend time with my horse. Never underestimate the power of bonding with an animal, big or small.

@@Healingheartpsychicservices I'm so sorry Ruth that you lost your husband. I feel the same way about animals I have to be around animals to feel good. There were like two hundred horses on a meadow nearby where we lived and we would go there every summer and visit the horses and I made friends with many of them. They all wanted to be petted and they felt relaxed when I talked to them. Then one summer all of the horses were no longer there and I wondered what has happened. Made me so sad. Then later on we roamed around the areas and found another meadow with horses and I made friends with them.

I am a completely blind rural Dj who loves working with horses. It gives me a much needed break from being behind the decks. I work with a horse named Daisy who has arthritis. She absolutely loves being brushed. When I go up to her and wrap my arms around her, she leans back into my embrace. She can’t be ridden anymore, but she absolutely loves being petted and walked. I have been trained to feed horses, handle them, do groundwork with them, tact them up, and ride them. I’ve been through the 4H horse group. If you’re going to experience this kind of treatment, I have to warn you to be ready. This is the most powerful form of healing on this earth. For me, even though I can’t see horses, I can still love them. The way their fur feels. the smell of them in the air. There’s nothing else like it.

They have been nothing but kind to us.

I owe horses and my horses for giving my life back to me. I was run down by a speeding 85mph pickup truck And was literally killed. Flown to a level 1 trauma hospital and saved by a the pioneer of reconstructive surgery. I was totally torn and broke a up. Not expected to live and was given yet a third chance to return to life again. This time to finish my life. I was sent by my Drs to a therapeutic horse ranch for “Hippotherapy” I stopped hyperventilating when I talked, I got my confidence back and it helped me move my pelvis and balance better than I could have done alone. It was wonderful and as a result of this, I had grew my heard up to six very loving and beautiful horses.

There needs to be programs like this and doctors need to be able to write prescriptions for this type of therapy. Instead of just writing a prescription for a pill which only takes care of the symptom, this type of therapy heals the disorder or problem.

Nana Rori ASMR bless your heart! Please don't ever let mean people keep you from doing anything that helps you! We've experienced a similar experience with my ASD son but luckily he was oblivious to most of it, I was not. It made me very upset for these mean kids to try to make him feel badly about himself and I confronted them even though they were teenagers to let them know what they were doing was not ok and I could hear the things they said. I wasn't hateful because they're also kids but it made them stop doing it once I explained his situation with Autism. I didn't want anything to ruin his experience or progress. If you're a teenager and one of your parents goes with you, maybe they could talk to someone there and let them know what's happening so you can get your happiness back in seeing and riding your horse sweetie! Good luck and hugs!

This is a great story, I have read about other healing programs with horses, and dogs, and truly it is a miracle to see what happens. In the nursing homes they will have therapy dogs come in and work among the residents, and the change is dramatic. Also music, its such a part of all of our lives, it will rejuvenate people. God has not left out anything in His wonderful creation, we just have to discover it.

I went from laughing at goofy (and grumpy) gamers to tearing up at a heartwarming video about an amazing charity. To everyone at healing horse KEEP IT UP! You are doing wonderful work. To Ms. Hanson, your son is vulgar and silly but God knows we love him and if I'm honest I find real therapy in his (and all of the grumps) work. I live with schizoaffective and honestly shit gets really hard to deal with some times but I know I can rely on the daily videos of game grumps even if I don't feel like smiling it's still comforting.

I recommend Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship, Intl. (PATH, Intl). www.pathintl.org. @healinghorsetherapycenter

Actually it was very frustrating for him because of his professional career. He was challenged to be present and work on getting his core strength back. He worked very hard at this and the results were amazing. If it was someone who did not have horse experience, the experience would most likely be completely different because there would be no expectation of what the results could be. As the equine specialist working with the therapist we set goals for the individual and work with the client to strive for those goals. I hope that gives some insight.
