UNEXPECTEDLY EASY - M Style Mirror Caps Install //BMW M240i

BMW Wing Side Mirror Cap Replacement
Just fitted my M240i with the BMW M style side mirror caps with a carbon fiber finish look. Fairly simple and quick mod. After prying off the side mirrors, simply pop the current mirror caps out by pinching the clips from the inside. Put the replacement mirrors caps on and plop the side mirror back on.

To replace the caps, you don't need to remove the glass! And if you do remove iy, don't do it like he did, you might break your glass.. Remove the glass from the bottom, not the side

100% correct I did it like he did and broke my glass, the other one I did from the bottom and the glass was fine!

I crack my glass from the bottom also. It's being stubborn and not coming off at all

I’ve changed my mirror caps twice and never needed to take the mirror out first, maybe I done something wrong but they fitted perfectly

Not wrong, but it really faster. I ‘ve done the same operation with my 118i f20 without touching the mirror - using only plastic tool

I was wondering the same thing. VW caps are very similar, many people think you need to take the mirror out but a trim tool around the edge of the cap works fine

That look is sick, nice best mod for the Bimmer yet. Should of done sequential LED side mirror signal would look even better. With rear bumper reflectors as well LED signals is must mod after the carbon fiber trim. Thanks for the tips. Whenever removing mirrors always afraid of cracking it takes me longer. How about mirror with blind spot monitoring just additional mod if you ever crack a side mirror maybe upgrade for you be nice to see a video.

Following this method snapped my mirror. I warn you now DO NOT pull the mirror along its length like this (ie longways from the furthest edge of the car). Prise it from the bottom so that it resists bending better along its shortest side. And be damn careful - I only realised how much these are to replace after breaking one - circa $180!

Broke my wing mirror (drivers side) attempting to take the mirror off via the left and right hand sides of the mirror. The trick is to pry the mirror from top or bottom which when I tried on passenger, it came off in seconds. Shame the driver side mirror is £120 as its auto dimming and heated. If you're in the UK...dont go to euro car parts as their mirror doesn't have the right connectors. My mirror has four soldered parts!

Not off topic at all. Are you referring to the mirror cap I just replaced? Or the entire side mirror assembly? It should be relatively easy to replace as long as you're patient and apply pressure evenly when removing the caps

Thanks it worked out fine! Just an fyi for anyone trying this, the entire housing can be taken off piece by piece. There are torque screws holding some of them. As you say, be very patient and gentle. I purchased the base housing from the dealership as i could not find it online. Around $45.

I bought them from various websites. The mirror caps were from AliExpress, the rear spoiler was from ECS Tuning, and the front lip was bought as a private sale from a local seller. Based on the quality, I think it might have been purchased from eBay.

Why did you take the glass out. The can get a trim tool behind the cover and ease them off forward no problem

Good point. I have heard that people have broken the clips by doing this method so I didn't wanna take the risk. It wasn't too much more trouble to take the mirror out anyway!
