Yeah I used to be terrified as a kid. As if my heart skipped a beat everytime a tank spawns in. For a long time I thought it was just me, as my brother never seemed to be terrified of it.

The tanks in the second game were even scarier. Especially in some of the later missions. One particular level called Air Cover had a section where you have to cross a wide open runway with barely any cover with like 4-5 tanks roaming around, took me a long time to beat that mission.

I used to have the same problem especially when I was out of rockets so I sneak/crouch up to the tank and used planted a c4 charge and destroyed it and healed my soldiers. I had the fear of getting blown by tanks.

It was never the tracks that scared me, it was the turret motor whirring. Even if you're laying still out of sight you still have a part of you expecting the HE shell to blow your butt sky high. Smokes block their view and distract them, but this only became more useful in Global Storm when they nerfed the tank AI a little to not be insanely aware of you, and the maps were in general tighter, as opposed to sparse and open which gives a huge advantage to the tank

Oh and I now remember spending a lot of hours mastering 'Patriotic Defense' and 'Cavalry Charge', killing every tank using all kinds of weapons and tactics including sneaking right up to their hull and leaving a C4 present.

@@ThatMattaTatta Funny, that's how my brother and I used to play aswell, C4 route in Calvery Charge. Only way later we figured you can kill the Shilka's (AA vehicles) with Foleys 50 cal. Takes about 8 shots on hard, 5 on medium and 3 on easy iirc. We used to dread that mission before knowing the other strat haha

A 2002 PS2 Demo version of this game was enough to scare the living daylights out of me. I was all alone crawling on my stomach fearing the steel behemoth. I allways ran away and didnt knew Smoke grenades were a thing (As a kid I thought they were thermos cans or something). I eventually managed to rescue Foley but I knew that the steel Monster was waiting for me.

The best way i have personally taken out main battle tanks was to aim at a angle and the bottom of the front armor if I'm on high ground in one mission I go for the engine deck same thing in desert storm 2 and Vietnam

The trick to defeating tanks and not loosing the mission is to keep your squad separated in 2x2 so if one gets ambushed by a tank you can revive them. Also when out of rockets use smoke bombs and C4/mines to eliminate them. Also if the terrain is right you can sneak up on them by crouching around objects if you are out of smoke bombs. I usually run as heavy machine gunner with sniper dude as my backing soldier and then call on the black guy with C4 if my heavy machine gunner is out of RPGs.

THis is what real tanks are like. You can't destroy them with what you have, unless you got a generation or two more modern ATGM then a beast you're facing, and forget about RPG's, the best you can do is smash optics or immobilize the tracks. The thing has better range, more firepower, and will likely detect you before you can detect it (if it's not moving and is on hardened position), so if you are an infantry man with no CAS on your side, this is a real life horror.

Randomly found this video and realized that I fucking hated the mission Scud Alley because it was the first mission that didn't have any resupply state. You'd load in right after Scud Boulevard and if you goofed up your ammo in Boulevard, you're fucked in Alley and you needed to sacrifice a few of your squad to make it down to the first T-72 with a C4 and smoke.

Probably few years too late to say but the obvious infinitely re-spawning enemies were... okay maybe those were more annoying than scary especially compared to a possible team wipe like the tanks were but I felt like bringing it up. How about any time an enemy decides to chuck a frag, they tended be snipers with those things and felt like you never had time to move away before they blew up in your face.

Tanks are the most terrified military hardware,because tanks equipted with heavy armor depends on the classes which is light armor for light tanks and medium for medium tanks/MBTs for heavy tanks are no longer been uses due to the nations focus on mobility and firepower on their tanks.Tanks are always been avoided by infantrys because tanks has main cannon and machine guns that can mow down the infantrys with only has small arms,when you're hear a tank engine roaring nearby you're getting a big problem.In the game the enemy or i can say iraqi forces using old soviet tanks like BMP-1,T-62,T-72,etc also to disable the tanks you gotta have to do mobility kill for example tank tracks or the engine compartements or just blew it up using anti tank rocket launcher,in this game has RPG-7,LAW-66,LAW-86 or tow missiles on the M3 bradley but in this game you can't disable the tank with broke its tracks...its a game,you just plant C4 to it or fire an rocket launcher to its engine compartement[gyat]and yeah you destroy the tank.i've played this game since i was a child and the tank engines from this game still haunts me until this day,and i hope that i can play this game to make me happy.thanks for listening my details about how tanks are scary.😊😊

I feel as if I had far better strategies in my elimination of these tanks, far as taking superior tactical cover and hitting their weak points, such as the rear and making adequate use of MLRS's etc, nevertheless your sentiment is still shared by me and presumably many others, you are not alone Malone. This is one of those games, just like Arma where you have to play far more strategically then in traditional Doom / Wolfenstein shooters, if you rush in like you're Master Chief in Halo you're going to get rail roaded, and these tanks will certainly ruin your fucking day if you let them, this is another prime example of a game developer teaching you a very important lesson about fighting smarter, not harder. It, in my opinion is the only true weapon in this game fit for the challenges that lie ahead, you have to get a bit unconventional with your planning, especially in later missions. Nevertheless, I digress. Fuck SCUD Alley, SCUD Boulevard. They're all Tank Conventions, don't even get me started on the mission Patriotic Defense. The tanks in that one actually hunt YOU the player down, and very early on. I apologize for potential spoiler leaks, but the game has been out forever. Moral of the story, this isn't Call of Duty, this is a real man's fucking game. All respect to anyone who has played through it like me, and beat it.
