One of them was able to look at my human/hybrid cards using a specific action card and told everybody I was a hybrid; I almost got lynched! @BoardgameNinjas3
Hi Samu, thank you for your response. I made a mistake with the b-roll. I was so focused on the timing that I accidentally also picked the two cards from the treachery. I have corrected it in the description. The second remark that you make is not correct. You only draw three cards each as stated on page 26 of the 'Learn to Play'. The five cards is only for your first learning game, to make it more easy for the humans, just as leaving out a traitor. Thank you for your time though, I really, really appreciate it when you take the time to make my videos better. Please look in the comments for another small mistake I made on screen.... Giliam

When resolving a Mythos card and the card spawns a Deep One, where on the game board does the Deep One spawn and how many of them are placed on the board?
@BoardgameNinjas2 жыл бұрын
Hi Mike, when the Deep Ones are activated and there are none on the board, you place two deep-ones in the Deep. If there are four or more deep-ones in the Deep they spawn. Roll a die. If your roll 1-4 they spawn in front of the ship on the top space, 5-8 they spawn at the bottom space. The spaces are marked with a 1-4 and a 5-8. All the monsters (including Mother Hydra and Father Dagon) move to this space. You can reread the rule on page 18. Good luck surviving them!

Hello, I love the idea of this game, I miss playing Star of Galactica, but it is so overpriced and yes it is nice to have something new. One thing bothering me is with more powers on the traitor side humans will not stand a chance, so to win a game you would pray to become a traitor. Because humans will be under constant attack and from inside and from outside. How you experience and did you feel that have balanced this thing?
@BoardgameNinjas3 жыл бұрын
Hello Jurgita, I think the key is in the crisis on the Mythos cards. In BSG I always have the feeling the humans have their hands more than full on the crisis. A successful action of the Cylons tips the scales. With Unfathomable the crises are more manageable, as are the intruders. As a traitor you really need to get in there and start sabotaging from the start, or the humans will reach port.

So I was lucky enough to pick up a copy in Hong Kong yesterday. When the captain draws the waypoint cards and selects one, do you think this done in secret? Or should it be for all players to see why options there are? I can't find a clear answer in the rule book, and event attempted to find an answer in the BSG books to no avail.
@BoardgameNinjas3 жыл бұрын
The captain does that absolutely in secret. I couldn't find it either, but their is a reference to it in the Secrecy rules: Players may not share specific information about these cards (such as the waypoint or mythos decks) but may classify the cards as being 'bad' or 'good'. So I think the captain isn't even allowed to tell what is on the card.

The (otherwise overused) source material would have deserve a word or two, though. I mean, how does it adapt the literary background? How true does it feel to the IP's theme this time?
@BoardgameNinjas3 жыл бұрын
That is a very nice question. I do not consider myself a sage on this matter, but the translation to a ship is a little bit of a stretch. Lovecraft describes the little port-towns in his stories according to his era: the sea is unpredictable and dangerous. Many fishermen die at sea at that time. You'll never know what happened to them. In Unfathomable the attack is very open, battling Deep Ones on the deck. For me Lovecraft is always more covert, huge world-ending dangers threaten the world and the heroes fiercely battle and save the day. Afterwards the civilians in the street don't know how close they were to total obliteration. Unfathomable feels more like pirates attacking the ship and the crew defending. Still FFG has a huge legacy of Lovecraftian elements that all return in this story. Spells sound familiar, the characters are typically FFG (with their good and bad sides), the situation is hopeless till you make it and so on...
@@BoardgameNinjas That's the info I've sort of missed from the video, exactly. A pretty elaborate one, too. Thank you! If this game can manage to convey that kind of atmosphere as effectively as the BSG version could, and it's actually more than just yet another slightly different title of FFG's Arkham Files line, that'd be convincing enough to look into it (IMHO).
@BoardgameNinjas3 жыл бұрын
It is definitely different, because the feel of BSG is still in this game. To be honest, since the video came out, I've played Unfathomable a lot of times and also BSG a few more times. I'm afraid BSG will loose the fight and I love the setting of BSG. Unfathomable is simply a lot shorter, more chaotic so there is more happening and with BSG I sometimes feel that you are waiting for the next jump to happen. With Unfathomable there is always something to do, monsters to battle, trouble to amend or passengers to rescue. One mechanism I did not mention in the video, but that works well is taking risks: passengers will have to be rescued, but since it takes some time before it's your turn again, chances are that you'll end up in sickbay. So you have to rely on the other players to bail you out or assist you in the battle against the monsters. Now on the subject of getting you to subscribe to my channel... ;-)

What’s the cultist card mean?
@BoardgameNinjas3 жыл бұрын
That is an interesting role: it is a human and it plays in favour of the humans, but it can only win if the Hybrids win in the last few rounds of the game, after the travel track reaches 12 spaces. So you play a balancing act, where you root for the humans, but still want them weakened enough so you can strike in the last five travel steps before the humans reach port.

@BoardgameNinjas3 жыл бұрын
@richardviguurs54883 жыл бұрын
@@BoardgameNinjas Thanx!
@BoardgameNinjas3 жыл бұрын

Without the Battlestar IP the theme here is not compelling for me, personally.
@BoardgameNinjas3 жыл бұрын
I have to agree with you. It is a stretch and I really like Galactica. But the reason I did consider it, was that FFG normally is quite good at streamlining games. Especially reducing the playing time without taking away the fun. And they did just that. We sometimes took six hours to play Galactica and with Unfathomable I haven't sat at the table for more than three hours. And had fun, although jumping feels a bit forced...
@DamienCaineNZ3 жыл бұрын
@@BoardgameNinjas so the three hours for Unfathomable was good streamlining as opposed to waning interest? That sounds good, certainly. I wonder if Battlestar's rules can be adjusted to give the same effect without requiring new components...

Looks really cool and prefer this theme over Battlestar Galactica, but I think it is just too damn pricey. Yeah, there are a few minis and even a few big ones, but with a price point like this, you are competing with CMON and such in mini count and quality. Having standees for the survivors are a real no go with a price like this. I'd prefer no minis and just tokens/ standees, even. This could be a 40 buck game, easily... Won't pay double for a few mediocre deep one minis.
@BoardgameNinjas3 жыл бұрын
Hello Tharuk, it is pricey. The quality of the minis is good, though. FFG has made some huge steps in the last few years. They are comparable in quality to their Lord of the Rings miniatures. I'm not quite sure about the 40 bucks. Especially comparing them to CMON. In my experience buying a CMON KS with all the cool stuff always ends up 250+ bucks. And FFG's games are never a dudd. But it is expensive.
@Tharukan3 жыл бұрын
@@BoardgameNinjas I'm sure the molding quality is great, FFG got that down! I just don't think the sculpts are that interesting. Certainly nothing I'd want to pay a premium for.
@Tharukan3 жыл бұрын
@@BoardgameNinjas With the comparison to CMON I would tend to compare core games, because this is exactly that, a core game. F. e. I could get Blood Rage or Rising Sun with not only more minis, but also more diverse and interesting minis with at least this molding quality for less than I'd have to pay for this. And most importantly, there are no Standees in those games, everything is minis. I'd bet in a few month FFG will come around with the "Unfathomable Survivor Minis Pack" for another 30 bucks, like they did with the Descent 2 villains. :D
