Hi! I'm a boy living in a province of Korea. I'm so happy to hear that you love your life in Korea haha. Also, I agree that there're also the dark side of Korea. But as you can see, there're a lot of KZbinrs who deal with the bright side of Korea only. So I think that people don't know about the dark side of Korea, but they only focus on the bright side of Korea. And there're even numerous people who believe that K-POP and K-Drama are literally Korea and think that things about Korea are always good! I love people who love Korea, but I want you guys to know the real Korea more. We want people who know both of the dark side and bright side of Korea, but still love the Korea. I'm really expecting your videos coming! I wanna watch your reactions about the dark side of Korea. I hope that you guys will focus on the dark side of Korea more, and Korean people will make effort to solve the problem. Thanks for making videos about Korea!

I agree with you. I used to want to live in Korea, but when I really sat down and thought about it, its not the life I want. I love the diversity of living here in the states. I love your transparency. My mom always said, everyone and everything has a time and season. When its up, its time to move on. Good luck with what you decide to do, but just be sure it's in the best interest for you and its what you want. Your happiness comes first. Much love!💜💜

girl do not feel bad for telling it how it is. as a black American woman I can only rationalize staying in homogenous countries like Korea for a limited amount of time before it gets restrictive and repetitive. living in a society where there's hardly any diversity or normalcy from what we once knew all our lives can be extremely taxing. i know my mental health would be on a downward spiral sooner or later.

Thank you so much for posting this video! This feeling of suffocation is so relatable. I lived in india as an Indian American and I can say I felt the same thing. Homogenous cultures can feel so limiting after being in a multicultural environment like America, Canada and the UK etc. When I was in India I really missed experiencing all these different cultures and foods I was exposed to in the U.S. not to mention India was more conservative. In india I found I had to be careful or I had to control my actions and I found I was losing myself.

This video was a breath of fresh air~ I love honest foreigners in Korea ugh 😭 I still plan to live in Korea but the idea of living there long term has never crossed my mind. Not even marriage or anything of that sort could hold me down in a homogeneous country. I’ve never seen anyone explain this but you and you explained it so perfectly. I don’t care what anyone says- Diversity is the most beautiful thing this world has to offer! The music part got to me too lmao I would sweat every time I’m passed the aux if given the chance in Korea. It really comes down to lack of connection... Stucturally, Korea is currently (hopefully soon one day though) not the best place to build connection with one's neighbours as someone from the outside. You're a foreigner before you are anything else... even human. And because you're not immediately recognised as an individual, it furthermore limits and thwarts the growth you can experience on a personal level hence the feeling of suffocation.

Of course, that doesn't take away from the fact that I'm blessed and so grateful for the chance to even come and experience life here, but it's time for me to move on. It makes sense when you come from a very diverse, metropolitan city or environment to move somewhere that is...not lol. I think a lot of people tend to also forget that Korea has only opened up very very recently compared to other countries/cities like Hong Kong, Japan, Beijing, etc so exposure to other cultures is still developping. At the same time, Korea's history is no different than a lot of developping countries so randomly asking foreigners/black people if they're poor or other comments is just like generally...how do you even think like that lol. I'm sure that person wouldn't appreciate being asked that just on a logical and empathic level.

@@Sarah-zt2qz I'm not an expert on Korean immigration policies, but I believe DS is talking about S. Korea's receptiveness to foreigners and diversity. For example, S. Korea was pretty hostile to a Korean American singer Yang Joon Il for being too "American"-- 30 years ago, Korean shunned other Koreans who were different, so this acceptance of foreigners into general society is relatively new

Hello, I love your videos. I'm Black American and my mother is from the UK like yourself. We're in America, but wanted to visit Seoul for a week for vacation in summer 2023 as we love K-Dramas. Would you recommend it? Are there any safety concerns? We were planning to stay in Itaewon as I hear there's a lot of foreigners there. Would love to hear your thoughts.

I've lived in America for 10 years this year as a European and I relate. I'm from an introverted culture and the longer I stay here the longer I feel like it's a mismatch with what's actually my comfort zone. I wouldn't mind the no diversity but the cravings of foods that are your from home comfort foods gets rough sometimes. No country is perfect, and humans are humans no matter where you go, and everywhere you go there you are so no country will make someone happy because happiness starts from within. I think it's good to hear the transparent conversations about the hardships of living in a foreign country long term.

Exactly! no matter where you are, happiness should always come from within. When I mention diversity, I’m not only talking about people. This includes access to multiple food options, music, way of thinking etc

Before I really couldn’t get into you mayb because the perception I got was superficial .. but having watched this video you have shown me a side that I can relate to and I’m here for it … I know when I was in China it was great felt like a holiday and then it ware off, and I started to question and doubt myself and get this negative feeling that I was unable to shake off until I left … do I miss China yea, would I go back ye mayb not to live however loool none the less it’s these experiences that shape us as a person and show how resilient we are!!!

That’s interesting, I guess I can be superficial at times lol but glad you’ve seen a different side of me. The feeling you describe about China is exactly how I feel right now. It’s reassuring hearing everything worked out for you once you left x

Why would you go to korea though? It's the antithesis for someone from the west, especially with caribbean/african roots? The only reason i'd go there was to endure suffering and restriction so i can grow as an individual in ways i didn't back home. I wouldn't expect to have a blast in korea. I'm from India and when i hear korean people talk about their country, i kind of feel like they have many common asian shared values, so it wouldn't be that different in terms of cultural expectations, but the excessive focus on looking perfect and fashionable always would be a total bummer.

If you want a top destination to travel where the culture shock won't be as much then I'd suggest Kenya. It's literary a melting pot of diverse people with urban lifestyle and top-notch best in the world safaris. Being African, people are less likely to project their insecurities on you and ruin your experience.

I hear the narcissistic vs genuine posting but love who actually draws the line because one can say just having a Instagram is narcissistic or having a KZbin page, please love don’t let negativity get to you or negative comments, please don’t let the bad emotions fester. I personally appreciate your posts, they show the very VERY raw side of Korea so I’m genuinely thankful for you 🥺🙏🏾 keep up the good work and be happy love 💕

Ugh I genuinely love your spirit Princess!! Anytime I watch your videos I get so happy because we are sooo similar in the most random of ways and that is so so special to me. Sometimes I wish not to be so kind and down to earth because now adays people are anything but. I’ve come across so many discouraging people over the past month of me prepping for my stay in Korea, only says bad things about Korea. But Ive enjoyed the culture for over a decade and I have tons of korean friends in the states who I feel areso lovely-so I cant help but think it’s all in perspective. Nothing is perfect but there’s always the bright side and beauty to everything and you show Korea in such a good light even without sugarcoating anything. I love thé genuinity and rawness. You constantly remind me to be myself and lather in the beauty of it all! The first person I wanted to visit when I come for about a year is you, it’s sad to see you go but there truly is a time and a place for everything!

It sounds as if you've been deeply hurt by something that's happened in Korea and its disillusioned you about the people and the country. I'm sure everyone is not racist in Korea, but I'd really like to know overall, how you feel about the place because I was thinking about just visiting one day.
