Aaaahhh... Jen, that was a great watch. When I do Great Walks, I like to stay two nights per hut - to get a little bit more of the feeling of what it's like to be there and not just passing through. You can't do that on the Milford Track, so I walked it twice in eight days. I've walked and photographed in detail the beauty of every Great Walk and every advertised up-to-half-day walk in every NZ national park and I agree with you about how very beautiful and special the Milford is. It really is next level. The Milford Track is the exact place I think of, when I think of the very essence of natural beauty. I say that as a nature photographer with over four decades of experience photographing the beauty of New Zealand. So, it was wonderful to go back and see it again through your eyes. I'll check out your Routeburn video next. Definitely, come back and walk the Heaphy Track. I've walked it more than forty times and I've walked "this half" (the Golden Bay end) of it well over a hundred times. Last time I walked it, I saw three kiwi (birds) on the track. It's a completely different vibe than the Milford. I recommend walking it slowly (because you can). Most people walk it in three or four nights - but you can stretch it out for longer than that. My best trip across the Heaphy was for 18 nights in the middle of winter. The Routeburn was stunning too - as you know - and, of course, you'll have to do the Kepler when you come back to do the Heaphy (and the Abel Tasman and The Old Ghost Road). The Kepler is as epic as the Milford is beautiful.

@@ExploreThisShow I live in the North Island of NZ and have done most of the great walks but have yet to do the Milford. The Heaphy at the top of the South Island is probably my favourite, Thanks again :)

As a Kiwi tramper I'm really enjoying your channel, which I have only just discovered as a result of popping "NZ Tramping" in the search bar. Your enthusiasm is infectious, and your delight in the experience matches mine! Isn't it exhilarating walking tenaciously through the tough stuff and coming back out into the sunshine! Or to a hot drink and a warm hut! 😅 I'm enjoying the thoughtfulness in your commentary, and your videography is stunning. I always enjoy seeing our stunning landscapes through the eyes of people from other lands who choose to grace us with your presence. Welcome to our place! 😍 🌿 🙆🏻♀️ Thank you for sharing your adventures and your insights with us. God bless you.❤️ New subscriber here. 😊

@@GypsyGirl317 Kia Ora! So great to connect with you and a like minded adventurer. New Zealand is my most favorite places on earth. I have thought of moving there many times! I appreciate your kind words. It’s such a joy for me to capture the essence of a place through stories and visuals and the Milford Track is one of the most spectacular places to do that. You live in a hiking paradise! Thank you for being on the journey with me.

How is the infrastructure on the trail? I see the huts and beds , but what about water and food? Do you have to carry it from arrival and cook by yourself or is it like the huts in Europe with Chefs and service ?
@ExploreThisShow16 күн бұрын
If you go with Ultimate Hikes, you can stay in the private lodges where they supply full breakfasts and dinners plus pack lunches to take on the trail. That's what I did and would do again all day long. Otherwise, you'll need to reserve space in the DOC huts along the way and bring your own food in.

How much training did you Do if any?
@ExploreThisShow3 ай бұрын
I live in the mountains and hike a lot, and I would definitely recommend training, mainly for day 2 with the elevation gain. Working on endurance and lower body and core strength is really helpful to make for a more enjoyable experience (and also better stamina if you had weather like I did)!
