It IS an awesome airplane and I respect your piloting skills. As a pilot of 41 years, some of the flying chanels get to be a bit "more of the same." But I enjoy a few of them and yours is one. In case you're curious, I fly a 1980 Cessna 441/Conquest II out of Long Beach, CA. Just got back from San Antonio, a four hour and 15 minute flight. While the Conquest is wonderful airplane, it is a dinosaur compared to the PC12 NG.

Grant, love your videos! PC12 pilot here..recently Pilatus has told us to wait starting Bat1 and Bat2 15 seconds in between each other for overload. Not sure it makes a difference but we’ve been following ever since.
@GrantBaker2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the tip Landon! That’s for voltage overload to the avionics I assume? I noticed a lot of clicking on the speaker, so I started waiting until that stops (a second or two) before turning on Batt 2. I’ll add the 15 sec to my routine though.

Excellent idea for a video, mate. Being an aviator geek myself I am a fan of seeing the pre-flight stuff, and certainly how the Pilatus works in that regard. It's a lovely machine. I also love the noise of a good 2 stage start procedure on a turboprop haha. That engine really makes a good racket when you go into low idle, doesn't it ;) Hope you're keeping well, sir.

that looks like so much fun. The mall made me think about our local legacy mall here in Shreveport Louisiana. South Park (not that one) was all but abandon then a local church bought it and gave it a second lease on life. I didn't notice when you engaged the yaw damper. I've always wondered does the yaw damper eliminate the P factor on take-off? I enjoy your channel. thanks for sharing. Cheers from Louisiana.
@GrantBaker Жыл бұрын
Thanks Rick! No, you want the yaw damper off for takeoff and landing. It dampens any yaw movement so it would hinder your rudder inputs. Very noticeable if you miss kicking it off for landing. You turn the YD on after raising the gear, so around 100’.

I don.t know if it was on my end but the audio was really choppy and the camera on the head made it seem choppy as well and the fast pans as you were looking for traffic is a little disorienting but I loved riding along sir. Thankyou for sharing. Greg out
@GrantBaker10 ай бұрын
Hmm audio shouldn’t have been choppy. I didn’t cut any of that out. As for the head cam, that’s unfortunately unavoidable as that’s how we naturally move our heads and a reason I won’t be using that view often. I think it’s pretty cool that we don’t even notice how fast we move our heads in normal life and yet how disorienting it is to see it on a screen!

Grant, I don't believe that it is necessary for you to cross-check either the altimeter readings (on ground) or the airspeed (on takeoff) because the Honeywell Primus Apex system has comparators that automatically monitor those two indications. If there is a difference between either altimeter reading or airspeed reading between the left and right hand sides (in other words, between each half of the Apex system) you will get a visual "miscompare" alert on the affected instrument (both LH and RH PFD).

I would even like to see this unedited stuff for longer flights since I don't mind to watch 90+ minutes videos. Ok, regarding the last point, I guess there are not many crazy people like me out there who will enjoy such long unedited videos, but I definitely will. I was going to ask how much fuel... And you posted it ;-) 13 gallons for a 10 minute flight??? Not too efficient for those short low flights is it?!? Nascar used to be huge around here and the pilots who flew out of KHKY would come up to KMRN for the cheap fuel then pop back to hky to pick up the drivers/crew. It always amazed me when they told me how much fuel they burned on a 5 minute flight!!! Fella once told me his jet burned as much fuel idling on the ground as it took at 40k doing 500+ mph!!! Crazy how efficient turbines are at altitude!!! Just REALLY expensive getting them there ;-) Safe travels sir!!! Enjoyed the "new" views!!
