In my mind the PC12 is definitely one of the most visually interesting aircraft I see these days and one of the most interesting when you hear them when they do their startup. When I'm driving with someone in my vehicle people always ask what type of aircraft that is because of it's distinctive look.

Even though I am a pilot, I can’t keep up with you when you talk about the different flight data on the Garmin screen. It’s intuitive to you because you fly that cool stuff. Same for other systems in the plane. Show us. Please slow down a bit and point to what you are referring to, please. Vertical speeds, cabin pressure, intercepting the darned GS and Localizer, auto pilot for sure etc. Also, for us piston pilots, would you explain in more detail about ITT, NT, Hung start, Hot star, and the other things you as the pilot are watching and what it really means. Not a turbine course because we know how they work, but not how you operate them. I’ve been flying since 1997 and I stay current and study everything aviation. But I still get SO much from winners like you when you go back to basics and explain the most basic aspects of aviation. Thank you for what you do for us and I hope that wasn’t a jackass. Bo Brewer
@GrantBaker8 ай бұрын
@bobrewer202 nope I didn’t think you were rude! I do try to point some of that stuff out in my editing by adding the radar ping circles. Some of those things are happening at critical phases of flight and it wouldn’t be wise to distract myself with an explanation. Next time I video, I’ll try to remember to discuss cabin pressure a bit. That’s not something you can really see from any of the GoPros, and I don’t think I’ve talked about that in any of my other videos.

so Grant , what are the advantages of flying a pc12 verses ,say a honda jet ??
@GrantBaker8 ай бұрын
The PC12 can operate out of much shorter runways than the Honda jet, and can operate off of unimproved runways. It can haul more weight and passengers, and has more range. It is more flexible with cabin layout and has the pallet-sized cargo door for easily loading cargo. The PC12 is extremely capable and one of the most versatile production aircraft available. The Honda jet can fly faster (422ktas vs 180ktas) and higher (FL430 vs FL300).

Is the inertial separator similar to a carb heat in my 182
@GrantBaker8 ай бұрын
Nope, it’s not really similar to anything in your 182. It’s a door that opens to allow fod (mainly ice and birds, but could also be small stones and other debris from an unimproved runway) that gets in the intake to exit before entering the engine. On a PT6, the air goes in the front and then makes a u-turn to go back forward through the engine and exits at the front. The intake is shaped in a way so that when the inertial separator door is open, FOD will go out the door instead of making the turn to go into the engine. Some air is also lost in the process, so at altitude you do lose some power with it open. And that’s also why closing it during climb reduces the ITT; more air is flowing through the engine.

A Pilot should NEVER fly IMC if they don’t know how to fly the entire flight by hand including ALL challenges that may lie ahead, if you don’t… well, DON’T. I find it disturbing that this even needs to be discussed or questioned! These type accidents have increased in recent years and it’s simply unacceptable because it shows a disturbing trend!
