I struggle with this a lot. In 2015 my boyfriend got drunk (something that I've warned him against on numerous times) and ended up having sex with another woman. I was shattered. He was too. He confessed it to me and ironically I stuck around and supported him because I saw how guilty he felt and how it ruined his life too (we're both Christians). He vowed to not touch any alcohol but fast forward 2016 he was already starting to drink again with his friends and it broke my heart and we argued but in the end he won again. This year the same thing happened again and Lord I was..beyond heartbroken. I screamed and cried my heart out yet again I chose to forgive him because I believe he was not a bad man, he just needs support. But since then he still drank with his colleagues and friends occasionally and it hurts me so badly. I want to help this man and I love him but it hurts to see him betray me like this. I feel betrayed because he promised me to change but he keeps on sidetracking and he even has the audacity to say things like "i am only human! i can only try but I'll never be perfect." the thing is, I always feel like he doesn't even try..I'm deeply hurt. and I struggle to not bring the past up every time he drinks. Sister, pray for me. I know this is not right. I know Jesus don't want to see me hurt like this. I hate being such a debbie-downer. I feel abused I feel emotionally-led. I tried to break up but it's hard. It's so hard. Pray for me. I am alone in this struggle. My parents love him and I don't have the heart to tell them that side of him because he is a nice guy. Pray for me.

Im sorry I need to add that fornication (sex outside marriage is a sin). As a Christian we are not to be in this kind of relationship until after marriage. I thought I would add that after re-reading your comment I realised you never said you were married. sorry. Seek God to make things right in your life. Only Jesus can calm the storm remember.

Ladyspride Hair Beauty : hearing your perspective is very interesting. I appreciate your advice and to be honest if we were married, I would work harder to fix this problem, to rebuild my trust in him and help him get back again. But unfortunately, I am not his bride and thus sometimes I feel like all my hard work, my trust is useless. I am submitting myselt to a man who is not my husband and that is my fault. Fornication is a huge issue, I do realize that now. I tried to stop him from committing other sins but we were sinning TOGETHER too. No wonder our problems seem to be prolonged even when the solution is right in front of us.

When I first read your comment I really felt touched by it because I know so many young women who go down that route. Your boyfriend is not I repeat NOT your husband! He therefore doesn't get to have husband treatment. Forgiveness doesn't mean to go back to a bad situation but to actually come to an end with it. He is constantly hurting you, he is not bringing you closer to God (you stated that you are both sining) Why are you with him? He might be a good man for this world but is he a man of god? Leading you closer to Christ? Praying for you? Teaching you about the word? I pray for you my sister that you may not be bound to other people's opinions but that you seek the plan of God for your life. May God bless you! I hope you don't feel condemned but uplifted because God loves you! I love you through Christ and really dive deep into the word of God! I feel like God really wants to speak to you but you're in a place where you can't listen. Quiet down everything and seek God than he will answer your prayer. 💙

I've had issues forgiving myself as well, then there was this one time a guy wronged me and I forgave him, but he kept coming back and apologizing and I kept telling him that I already forgave him, till one point I said: Who are you to hold onto your wrong when I am the one you wronged and I forgave you! [something along those lines] I realized how it looked when I hold onto things that I've done wrong with God even though He's forgiven me. Edit: That's not to say that we should keep doing wrong, but that we should steer away from those mistakes and not live in the guilt.
