Ya I owned a towing company that specialized in junk cars which usually ended up as some sort of created recovery. I did towing and recovery too but when the customer has a wrecked, broken vehicle put in their back yard before the landscaping and fences and wants you to remove it with little or no damage it can be harder than recovery from the roads. It was a blast.

Every E-250 / E-350 I’ve ever worked on was overloaded. Back in the day I’d refuse to work on fully loaded work vans. One time watched my boss struggle with an E-350 HVAC work van. The 10k 2 post lift would stop right as the back wheels lost contact with the ground. Gee....I wonder why when the rear LT tires looked flat with 80 PSI 😂😂😂 Good job considering how heavy that van must’ve been.

I think I heard Randy mention that the Yankum rope had a knot in it? Man, those can be a real pain to clear, and they happen in an instant. However, even after a hard pull when it is like a rock, these knots are removable with a little patience... What I do is take a pair of large channel lock pliers (two pliers... one for each hand). Place one on the rope that exits the back side of the knot (just to stabilize the rope), then take the other and grab the near-side loop next to where it passes through the far-side loop. Slowly work the pliers up and down, grabbing in a few different places just to get good leverage on the knot. Then, grab the far-side loop and do the same thing. Go back and forth like this a half-dozen times or so, and you will start to notice the knot softening. A couple more rotations and it will release. The key is to get a good bite on each twist and don't try to force it too quickly so as to avoid damaging the rope. Thanks for the great content!

That drivers side van rollover brought back memories. Driver was not wearing his seatbelt and ended up outside the vehicle between the van and the roadway as it slid to a stop from 70 mph. Closed casket with an old portrait on top at the funeral. Gives me the Willies every time it comes to mind. The roller coaster rule applies... "Keep your hands and feet inside until the ride comes to a complete stop". Great that the driver in this one was able to stay inside and walk away. Be Safe!

Next time you have a situation like the Ford van and the front wheels are turned, just use the bed to roll under it while using the winch to hold the van in place. Instead of extending the bed fully out to make it the minimum incline, make it as steep as you can and hook up the winch. Slowly maneuver the bed under the rear wheels while keeping tension on the winch. Once you are squarely under the rear wheels, raise the bed off the ground and slowly extend it as you keep tension on the winch. If the bed is fully extended and the front wheels are not close enough to the end of the bed to pull it on, lower the bed until the front wheels are off the ground and retract the bed. Raise the bed to put the front wheels back on the ground and then slowly extend the bed while using the winch to hold the van still again. You should be able to get the bed to the front wheels and pull the van onto the bed. This is far easier then what you did, and you don't need to use skates the could fly out and hurt someone. I've had to do this with a brand new car that the wheels were stolen off of and it was left on 2 small plastic milk crates. It was the only way to get the car on the bed without wheels (skates would work because car was too low without wheels) and be able to get the milk crates from under the car. I've also done this with camping trailers with seized axles, wrecked vehicles and vehicles without keys and the steering wheel was locked with the wheels turned.

Yeah, At least it was already rolled when that happened & cant be held for further damages etc. One of my friends old trucks was being pulled by a regular tow long ago and came loose and fell off the back of the tow & crashed it... That is a worse case scenario, and Why i prefer to always use flat beds.

The amount of stuff that fell out of the window of that van and was in the drivers seat.. I'm surprised the driver was okay (but glad to hear it). That van was loaded with all sorts of gear, had to be pretty heavy.

I had a street car that would overheat in traffic. I installed a windshield washer reservoir with spray nosells on the radiator. I could turn it on and drop the engine temp by 30 deg. easily. I have one on my drag car now to spray traction compound on the rear tires.
