As a hvac tech for 30 plus years, Making hvac equipment more technical DOES NOT make them better. Who suffers. Homeowner. Pick this unit, its super efficient and will save you money on your energy bill. Until something major goes wrong and ALL that savings goes right out the window.

Curtis, just peace of advice. When I have a call back like that, I always clear my mind what I have done before that and start over again like that's my first time been at this system. Just take your time and accept this challenge as a training course where you will learn something new. Something that will make you a better technician next time you bump into a similar system. Don't get upset my friend. It happens to all of us. Now, you know what to do next time you see such peace of Trane. Just example from my own HVAC life. I had a no cool call this past summer. When I went there what I found was a huge mess. Thermostat hanging on its own wires off the wall. A couple of transformers put aside of the unit and the one in the unit was blown up along with a blown fuse. Blower motor not working. Wires disconnected all over. 2 big companies before me were trying to fix the problem with absolutely no success. It took me 3 days totaling almost 20 hours of my own time until I finaly found the stupid problem just like you did on that video. Of course, I couldn't charge the customer the full rate. I lost a bunch of money. But you know what was funny? After a couple of weeks I bumped to exact same problem and I fixed it within 1 hour! I charged accordingly and I knew I haven't lost any money on that previous customer. Lesson learned: Keep doing your best and you are going to become THE BEST!

When you checked the transducer in the first video it looked like you had your Fieldpiece probe on the suction line but in the second video when it was out of range you had it on the true suction. Not sure if that would make a difference with the system off and pressures equalized or not. Probably wouldn’t hurt to have ran the system in cooling and checked pressures to ensure there wasn’t a leak. Not sure what was up with your leak detector but I have the D-tek 3 and it’s been a solid leak detector. It has the same sensor as the Stratus, basically the same detector without the ppm display. Maybe it was picking up residual from when you hooked up your probes or maybe it was not working right but I’d want to be 100 percent sure there isn’t a refrigerant leak. I know you will get your customer taken care of. I appreciate your honesty and integrity and I’m looking forward to the follow up video!

Inficon...... that's code for need to spray with soap and look for bubbles. I don't particularly like mine either. Electrical issues from all of these sensors really take time to troubleshoot and don't always test faulty every time. I tell my customers that intermittent electrical issues are very hard to troubleshoot until they fail altogether. My hats off to ya! You always hang with them until done right.

At first when you were getting 0 volts I was afraid the 5volt source from that new board had failed or the transducer was shorted to ground pulling the reference to 0 volts. It sure sucks when diagnostics can send you down a rabbit hole and not to mention costly! But like you said you get the bad with the good. Don’t help that the manufacturers take the long way around to carry out a command! Nevertheless great use of your skills!

I worked on a main/sub VRF that had 13 heads that had no error codes on the main upc board but the inverter boards for the the condenser fans all had red alarm lights lit up no error flash obviously they all took a hit from the storm. Got those replaced and went to turn on the power and blew a fuse, ended up finding a shorted compressor inverter board that ddint show itself till the condenser inverter boards were replaced. Whats weired the all compressors would run before replacing the condenser fan inverter boards. Weird stuff.

i believe those transducers are a 5v reference(red) signal and white should be the return, black wire is your common ground. Those are common to get flaky and go bad, but i would remove the sensor load and ensure that there is a stable 5V being sourced to the sensor.

Do you check you are not getting a O call on the indoor unit? If the thermostat is sending an O call the indoor evv is gonna meter the refrigerant and will make the system to pump down.
@DaríoMartínez-w6w
@DaríoMartínez-w6w Жыл бұрын
That's what I thought but it's clear that the outdoor eev is stuck closed because it's freezing. What I believe is that the outdoor unit eev board could be receiving an O call on heat mode and makes the eev think that the system is running on cooling.
