Ungava is the go to Gin for Canadian students on the island of Montreal. Having said that, you should also try "romeo's gin" which is also from Canada (specifically Montreal). Very much Hendricks notes and not too over powering.

Somehow as an Iranian/Canadian I am a gin lover, Do not know how but normally 90% of the drinkers in Iran they go with either vodka or whiskey without even having knowledge of how they got produced. I found Gin more complex in a way so that is why it is my drink of choice in weekends. Love the knowledge that you shire. i totally appreciate.

Welcome to the tip of the Quebec gin iceberg! This region is booming with craft gin distilleries. Waxwing, Radoune, Romeo, Madison Park Breakfast gin, and so many others.

Worth noting that not just Canadian, but Ungava is a northern peninsula of Quebec, closer to Greenland than Montreal. The writing on it is in Inuit btw, a Native language family (and tribe) with their own alphabet (the triangle things).

It’s an amazing drink. Noticed that when mixed with tonic it changed from yellow to clear.

Ungava is my go-to Canadian Gin... we drink it on ice (no mix) and if I could get "Breakfast Gin" (from Quebec) in Ontario I would put that up there as well but it's no longer available. Lovely Bergamot notes.

Was brave enough to buy a bottle of this.... naturally coloured gin. Very happy with it! Despite how it makes cocktails appear lol. Very powerful flavour. Welcome in this frigid month. Honestly the nose is something incredible compared to tanqueray. London dry in style, but very spicy and feels much higher proof than it really is.

That taste/sensation/experience you're getting from this gin is the wild herbs and medicines used in the process. Labrador tea, in particular, is the smell that is very distinctive and there are some other ones in there as well. This is an Indigenous-owned and operated brand (as you can see they use Cree syllabics in the brand's name and all the ingredients are harvested by hand by native people in the north of Quebec, close to the tundra. What is amazing is that the herbs/medicines used are actually very beneficial to your health and have huge benefits from using them! Labrador tea, in particular, is amazing for health and it's so cool to see it in a gin! hope that helped fill you in a bit! :)

@frecklematt4 жыл бұрын
I am not sure where you got your facts from. The gin is definitely not Indegnous-owned. Those are symbols used in Inuit languages, not Cree. There is a lot of controversy surrounding this gin because many Inuit people felt that their imagery and livelihoods are being used to market the gin. I love gin but have never tried it for these reasons. You can read more here: www.cbc.ca/news/canada/newfoundland-labrador/ungava-gin-cultural-appropriation-social-media-campaign-1.3398599

I have a bottle, but I don't quite like it. It makes all tonics much bitter, even the very sweet ones. It has kind of a gin taste not extra junipery and something on top. I can not really tell you what this is but it is not that pleasent. Nor it is bad, but it definatelly does not worth to keep it at home. There is plenty of gins that are much better for the price.
