We recently have been looking for an MFT horse for a a friend of ours. He is wanting a trail riding partner and asked Jr to help find the perfect one for him. Luckily, we found the perfect one AND ending up finding a beautiful bay mare/filly. Very unplanned, but it was such a good deal and she is such a beautiful horse we decided to bring her home to join the herd!

How about Ramblin Rose? Thorns in her hair, a bit wild and very beautiful. I too also understand the life changes as a senior. When you're young, the years ahead seem like a long time. But in no time at all, your over 50 and physically, you start feeling it. To see things that you did in your younger years (activity wise) go by the wayside is dismaying and sad too. The hopes of having the opportunity to do thing's you planned to do, well the window closes. I hope they can keep their "core" horse's for a long time to come. It will give them great comfort and keep that part of thier lives alive.

@terryt.1643 You can choose to adopt from rescue, an older dog. If you want a specific breed, almost all AKC breeds have rescue groups, many throughout the US. You can also choose to downsize or pick a lower energy dog. Most dogs from 401C rescue groups are housebroken and crate trained and fully evaluated as to personality.

I have heard it on horse videos before, but being in England, I don't have a clue what they are. Her eyes at the end when she is eating and relaxed are so pretty. Look forward to their updates and the name you have chosen for her. Her mama was gorgeous too and I am so glad the older couple have the mares they still on their farm. I cannot imagine needing to move on to the next chapter of your life due to poor health. They are burdock burrs. They are spikey round seeds from the burdock plant, that grows about 4 feet tall with zillions of these round spikey seeds that tangle themselves up in manes, forelocks and fetlocks good and tight.

It's called "cockleburs" .. it's a prickly little ball that comes off of weeds and it gets stuck in fur/hair and winds it up. They are extremely hard to remove. I've always just cut them out .. not worth the pain and stress of trying to work them out imo. They are so sticky/prickly that if you walk thru a patch of weeds they'll be stuck all over your clothes and socks like velcro. I hate those stupid weeds. I always try to dig the plants up if I see them on my proptery.

I have seen "Burberry" suggested, which is an expensive, luxurious line of perfume, clothing and the like. Nice and unique name for a horse. And, "Bayberry," which someone else suggested, sounds close/similar to Burberry. Nice too. I really like the "Valentina" idea, which someone else suggested. Very regal and lovely for a lovely and regal looking horse. Also, she came to you just in time to celebrate Valentine's Day. So, you some really good choices so far. She is also majestic looking, so maybe consider "Magesty" too?! Regardless, whatever name you decide will be alright with me. So, have fun choosing a beautiful name for a beautiful horse!

Beautiful horses. I feel for the older folks, being older ourselves. It's a hard thing to give up the youthful dreams. I was looking through my seed catalogs, and thought that many of the flower names could fit the pretty mare. Here are a few ideas: Chica Flame (Chica for short); Gypsy Rose; Mandarina (Rina for short); Georgia Flame; Misty Merlot. I love thinking about names. 🙂 I'm sure you'll get the name that fits her perfectly.

I had a Friesian Sporthorse named Dancer. She would get burrs so bad in her tail and mane I wanted to shave her. One time, her tail was solid burrs, it looked like a bag of burrs. I used Mane and Tail conditioner and a Wet Brush. It took me about 30 minutes to get it all out. The positive, leaving the conditioner in, the burrs wouldn't get as attached as before. Good luck with the two sweeties. They are gorgeous.

Been there done that. You spend a few hours getting a horse caught up and it getting dark and need to get it in the trailer. You do what you gotta do. You didn’t have to stop at the vet on the way home to get her sewed up, so it was a success!

That gentleman who helped you load the unhandled chestnut colt and bay filly by literally shoulder-lifting their haunches into the trailer was amazing!! Talk about powerful!!! I use to think that the term “mountain man”, as used in the early chronicles of America, was very deceptive-inevitably the individual so described was shown to be as skinny as a piece of leftover jerky. That gentleman properly fulfills “mountain man” in every respect-he is as powerful as a mountain, and as expansive-Paul Bunyan, only not as tall. 😁 Suggestion for your trailer: paint the interior WHITE-out West, trailer interiors are painted white because horses dislike entering what to THEM looks like a black cave (yes, even with open slats for light and air). Name suggestion for the bay filly: Questing Star (Starry for her stable name)…her head marking looks like a question mark.

To get rid of burrs (cockle burrs) in fur or manes, squish the heck out of each burr with regular ole pliers and remove all the little pieces with your fingers and a large tooth comb. Worked great on my collie who had 6 inch long fur. 🐕

Then work some corn starch into it, and you will be able to comb those burrs right out! Works on matts/tangles also, without having a greasy mane that will be a mess again if she rolls.

What a sad day for the elderly couple. I'm glad that they are able to keep their brood mares. Aging is difficult; I know because I just turned 73 and it's sad to give up activities and responsibilities that we have done all of our lives but now find too difficult to do. The loading of the horses was a little scary but went quite well considering. That big fella was great; so nice of him to help. Well JR looks like you're going to be real busy. Can't wait to see the next video on these two, the transformation.😊❤

I Like The Name "SHANIA" for the Bay Filly 🐎which has many meanings, Shania is a girl's name of Native American origin-believed to be Ojibwa-and means “ I'm on my way.” It's also considered a variant of the Yiddish name Shaina, which means “beautiful.” From its Native American roots and the success many Shanias have had, this name comes packed with role models for the baby on track to stardom. I think it is fitting to call Her that since she will be On Her Way To Be A "GREAT HORSE".

What works well to take burrs out of mane and tails? Mix Garnier Fructis leave in conditioner in the green squeeze bottle and Argan Oil in approximately a 60/40 ratio and work it into the hair and burrs. This softens everything up so that you can pull small amounts of hair at a time out and get the burrs out. It's also great for the mane and tail and causes a lot less breakage!
