Playlist related to JEE/JOSAA counselling: • Advice related to JEE/...
It is quite likely that the vast majority of students are unhappy with their Department or Institute after the seat allocation through JOSAA counselling is over.
So what to do now?
Students should try to find more about their Department, and not be biased by ill-informed opinions. They should try to find out what professional engineers from their Department do and what kind of cutting edge research is being done in their allocated Departments.
The points I put forward are based on what I had seen myself when I was an undergraduate student at IIT Kharagpur and also as a faculty members over the past few years at IIT Kharagpur.
This video is part of a KZbin playlist where I give various general advice to students at different levels (Bachelor, Master, PhD):

Your channel deserves more attention from Jee aspirants in contrast to KZbinrs who upload videos only on the Cse cutoff and highest packages of the institutions exploiting the greediness of parents and students and converting it into money, rather than guiding the students to their interests.

1. "whom to listen to and whom not to listen to" -- this is one of the *best* advice that a new undergraduate student can receive! They are bombarded by lots of 'fundae' from all sources and, in an already unhappy state, are not sure how to filter information. Identifying the "right people" (batchmates, seniors, professors even!) to interact with is so important, though not always easy! 2. "please do not feel sorry for yourself" -- another excellent advice, that really goes a long way toward improving one's mindset! I can relate even now!! Often, as an unhappy first year UG, the stories I told myself were so vivid in their negativity that I ran the danger of essentially willing them into reality! If only I had access to these ideas back then! I mean, I think I did have access, but never really actively looked for them ;)

I am very happy that a young student like yourself has finally understood the the scenario in a level-headed manner. This *is* is the right approach. First discover for yourself what the Department is about; what the professionals (the real, high-quality ones) get to do, and then decide for yourself whether you want to remain in this core (with very challenging and stimulating work) or you wish to go down the software job profile route.

Dear JC Sir, I could not make it to an IIT nor I got the branch of my choice (electronics) in any of the NITs. So, I ended up in a private college with ECE branch. But the environment there is not at all conducive; most profs and students are not interested in what they are doing. Please suggest or make a video on how non-IIT students can do well in their field and explore their interests because they often lack the right guidance/peer group/mentorship in their college.

Sir, I honestly do not want to say this but still I am writing this comment with heavy heart- In India, more than 99% of engineering students actually do not know their real passion lies. This cause has two effects- 1. Everyone wants to study Computer Science and become Software Engineers. 2. Students do not choose depts. but the dept. chooses the student 🤣 . I think, moderation in admission criteria at IITs is really the need of time. What do you think?

I am an incoming student of 2026 batch. I would suggest that if possible, please visit the institute that you were allocated, more so if you feel unhappy with the choice. A lot of times what you're unhappy about isn't because the institute you were allotted is bad but because you didn't get alloted your dream institute. Most of us have no idea what it actually is like to be in the institute and so we form opinions based on preconceived notions like sir said. Visiting the institute and interacting with seniors will absolutely shatter any kind of biases/misunderstandings you had about the institute and will provide you with a whole new perspective. Also, know that no institute is bad. Most of the institutes which are participating in the counseling process are institutes of national importance. 4 years down the lane what will matter the most isn't where you graduated from but what you made out of the 4 years there. So don't get so hung up on where you'd rather be that you forget to make the most of where you are, all the best!

Hello Sir, my rank was 2032 in JEE Adv 2022 . Sir it was a very good advice as it is coming directly from a professor from "dream institute" of many. My dream Institute were IITB and IITD but was getting Chemical department there so everyone adviced to go for circuital branches and so I did and I landed upon IIT ROORKEE EE this year in first round. I was totally mad about going to IITD as I had seen Vlogs about college life and city life in IITD and IITB. But IITR EE is also good . Keep making such videos , it is a real gem.

Sir I got allotted NIT Trichy Mechanical in the first round, might change to electrical in the further rounds, I had scored low in JEE Advanced due to very unfortunate circumstances and am thinking of taking a drop as I am very passionate about getting into IITB since the past 2 years, but sadly due to lack of exam temperament, the dream was soiled, the same paper when I solved it at home I was able to solve a considerably more number of questions, should go for a drop and take another shot at my dream?

In life what matters most is self satisfaction. Last year i messed up advanced with 7241 rank and had to take admission in IIIT Allahabad IT but I can't let my inner dream of iit to just fade away like that. Coming to college I realised that this college lacked a lot of things and is far away from the awesome culture of old iits. Hence I took a partial drop Now i got a rank of 1769 rank in jee advanced 2022 and now a proud student of IIT Bombay chemical. So pls rethink your dream.

Q1: Yes. Q2: If you are genuinely interested in CS, go for Maths and Computing. Q3: Yes, in the long run, what really matters is what YOU do with the education you receive. College name is certainly a bonus, but you cannot reach anywhere just on the basis of that.
