I think Russians just didn´t have their air defence on in order to avoid friendly fire. Russians have way more airpower than Ukraine and so almost all radar contacts were going to be Russian. That strike on the rear of that plane was NOT explosive but a Blunt Projectile hit. An altered HYMARS could do it. Leave it to the Ukrainians too HACK US tech to do what needs to be done. Forget all the videos you have watched for just a moment and think about the absurdity of Russia's warning: "Russia (who started this mess with Putin's ill thought gambit of an instant win) warned Ukraine (the bully is blaming the victim) of using Drones to attack (Russia didn't want or expect Ukraine to fight back). All the U.S. has mainly done is to provide training, equipment, and intelligence. The Ukranians are paying with their own blood - and no one can deny that Ukraine has exceeded any and all initial expectations. Not even our own intelligence community expected much of a fight from Ukraine. Our own intelligence and diplomacy was to initially offer Zelensky safe passage and an escape from the inevitable Russian military. Putin's military, much to the world's surprise, ended up being something akin to a paper tiger - all its lies and corruption is now on display for the world to view. Putin has given up on a military victory, his current push is to feed the meat grinder with as many of the unwanted ethnic Russians as possible, and just to rain blanket destruction scorched earth upon Ukraine as he retreats and cedes back territory. Its far from over, neither side is really in a position of outright defeat. From my vantage point the fighting will end in 3 to 6 months. No matter Russia's position as the victor or loser in the war, and even if Russia "keeps" Crimea and most of the Donbas, Russia as we knew it will be in the dumps probably for decades if no revolution occurs.

I actually assume this is happening to a limited degree already. Ukraine may have to provide the (soviet era) platform but the internals, the guidance systems and so forth, could very well be sourced from the west to make it effective.
