In short: The Kuru Toga is for someone who doesn't want to rotate the pencil everytime they write, and the delguard is for someone who's heavy handed. So i don't think one is better than the other, but i think each one is providing something different for different types of people, if you are heavy handed? Use the delguard, if you like using thin leads but finding yourself braking it most of the time? Use the orenz, if you have hand fatigue when writing for long periods of time? Get the alpha gel it's not about what's better and not, it's just about your personal preference

You didn't demonstrate the other important feature of the Zebra: When pushing down at an angle, as in writing, the lead support tip protrudes out to cushion the lead and prevent breakage.

Thanks for this. I've used the Zebra Delguard to reduce lead breakage (it also has a nice "feel"), and was reasonably happy with it for several years -- until I recently got a Kuru Toga Advance , and I will never go back. The Uni both cushions the lead better, I find, and has the lead rotation feature which helps to keep it sharp. I like to pair the Kuru Toga Advance with Pentel AIN Stein 2B leads.

Zebra has a spongy feeling and I don't use it for that reason. In comparison, I prefer the Uniball mechanical pencil for its consistency. Check out the Tombow mono mechanical pencil with knurled grip and a 2.3 mm eraser, it's way better than Uniball or Zebra.

I have the roulette for kuru toga. I like it, but it needs too much pressure to activate the mechanism. So it's just a regular mechanical pencil in my hands. I thought about the advance, but I think the problem is the same.

kuru toga slide pipe and kuru toga advance have the same engine in them, the 2x rotator one
@afiffaizul
@afiffaizul 3 жыл бұрын
He forget something. Advance kuru toga has pipe slide mechanism that hide the lead behind housing tip/steelguard when unused and as you put force to it when writing, it pops up a tiny proportion of the lead just enough to be used to write. In terms of mechanism or innovation, kuru toga has an edge here. Even zebra guard's retracting mechanism is also included in kuru toga, just not as heavy as zebra. The drawback for kuru toga is that it feel squishy for people with very sensitive hands or people who know very well about his stuff in writing. The squishy feel is caused by the rotating mechanism since every line you stroke has to be registered to rotate the mechanism. Fortunately, for you to be annoyed by this feeling is very minimum since the bump is very short. Even when you can feel it, you will likely get used to it.

there are a lot of videos like this on youtube saying one is better for even lines, the other one for people who press down to hard and have a lot of mines breaking. but wich one works best on wood? when i mark out things on wood for woodworking.. i am guessint the delguard would be best bc some types of wood are not smooth bc of the pores and the delguard could prevent that from breaking the mine... guess i'll have to try that myself
@hilmyakatsuki1665

Zebra del guard is good for softer lead where it wear down faster. While uni can rotate the lead so you can use it for writing. But softer lead can break easily. For softer lead that protection and not liking to advance the lead again and again due to faster wear down you can use Pentel orenz. With one full press the lead advance like 3mm and the sleeve protect it. As you write the sleeve will go inside thus you can write with that 4mm. Then again press for lead advancement. Great for longer write session with softer leads

Hello sir. I have the regular pentel orenz and the stein both in .3. The stein is a fixed nib and breaks lead easily, and the orenz has a sliding nib that protects the lead but it makes it scratchy. But does the kuru toga protect the lead at least more than a fixed nib pencil with no springiness even though it's weaker than the del guard. Would you say it's better than a regular mechanical in protecting lead but not as good as a del guard. Or is the springiness just to weak to protect the lead any more than a basic mech. If so i may just get the del guard.

@afiffaizul
@afiffaizul 3 жыл бұрын
It is. Some people are light handed and are very careful to put a pressure, hence the mechanism sometime is not registered. But most of the time, or at least for overall session, it still keeps your tip evenly sharp.

Check your version of kuru toga. Is its standard one, your pencil probably have defect. If its pipe slide version or advance, its a feature to keep your lead at reasonable length so it dont break easily. You can even write when the lead is fully inside its metalguard/housing tip, just write regularly, the pressure is enough to pop up a nub of the tip, tiny enough to be noticed at writing distance, just enough for writing or drawing

Thanks for the video (: I've a Pentel Graphgear 1000 with a 0.3mm lead and it's awesome! The lead will slide back, if you press the clip. It feels solid and sturdy because for the most part, it's made of metal. The only downside I noticed is that the barrel is made of plastic and starts to knurl, if you take the pencil apart. I'm looking for mechanical pencils to draw pictures and sketching. After watching your video, it seems to me the Kuru Toga isn't recommendable for drawing because of the self-sharpening mechanism and it may come unhandy. If you made some experience drawing with it, share your experience if you want. A few days ago I ordered two Zebra Delguard Typ LX pencils (I couldn't find the ER typ but it doesn't matter anyway).
@aashutosh9285
@aashutosh9285 4 жыл бұрын
No, it's not entirely true I draw (traditional and digital), and I just bought a kurutoga..... It works just fine.... The lead turning mechanism works only when a little pressure is applied and when, like sketching out guidelines, we do it with a soft hand and by not applying too much pressure, that's where the nib/tip doesn't push inside for the mechanism to work..... Rest all, like while actually filling in details or when doing the outlines using the pencil, the kurutoga works to produce even lines (all are not the same width, but it can't be differentiated easily). I've personally liked the kurutoga and the Delguard. I use both lol

@afiffaizul
@afiffaizul 3 жыл бұрын
Just to draw straight line, both are good. If you want to write or draw uniformly, kuru toga is the only option since the rotating mechanism keep your tip uniformly sharp. But if you are doing advanced drawing, use different stroke for effect or shading, and know how and when to rotate your pencil, better use wooden pencil. You pick zebra if you tend to overpull the pencil lead and tend to heavy press when writing.
