A six digit frequency counter, extra channels and you are set. The Grant XL has one of the best receivers. Good sideband.

Just got a President HR2510, 2 President Lincoln’s & 2 Texas Star DX350’s, 1 Texas Star is an DX350 HDV, high drive. Keep up the good work. You can’t beat those 148GTL’s & Grant XL’s. Thanks for sharing the videos. 73’

Excellent video John (Mower Junkie) :) yes that bad deal also shape for that Uniden Grant radio and looks like Plastic Flim still on chrome trim faceplate mine be off since had 2010 ! Mine still going strong also put out 4 watts with peak 9 to 12 am and sideband it 18 and peak 23 also loaded with modulation 100 %+ !

There is a Arduino based chip that could make this radio very broad and very stable even add SWL frequencies up to 15 megs etc. You already have those coverages but that up grade could be done. Great find

I am the nth owner of a Uniden Grant XL mobile, and it has the channel expansion on the hi/low switch. Someone also cranked the audio up to the absolute max, because it squeals with a power mike, even turned completely down, so stock mics only. It puts out about 9 watts AM, and 17 ssb. They are a great radio for sure. Have a good one! 882 Hobo Chris from NW Pa.

Try using spair wire in mic cord as secondary ground/ grid line tie it to shield in plug and put one or two ferrite chokes on the line if you have to wrap a copper line around the length of cord leave at plug and terminate under body screw the thing I see is carrier level try backing it back gto 5-6 watt with increased drive it can drive 3-4 and hit 20+ in am mode ssb may stay in 17 level Chances are AMC has been eliminated or clipped leaving modulation at max

John it's possible that someone may have changed the faceplate with one that came off of a modified radio. That's my guess. Good score!

Since that one puts out a bit more power hopefully it hasn't ben screwdrivered glad they didn't hack up the PLL putting in a channel expansion. Still a nice radio.

I have the grant lt mkdel beautiful recieve where the hi lonand brit dim the guy who modded mine drilled 2 sub mini holes directlky above the area if ever have to ship it be extra careful not to break the switched and before use make sure tightened or oit spins in hole so fat hasnt broke the wires or shorted the chip

Need to unlock the clarifier & make it slide 10 kHz so you can get the A channels (3A, 7A, 11A, 15A & 19A) & add the Free Band Channels. -73's
