Complete set of Sams 😢 I'll wait for that give-away 🙃 That radio is built like a tank, massive heatsinks. It's a really clean radio. It could be a good addition to your collection. Thanks for the video. Have a great week.

Yep, whole set of them plus all the secret cb books, Those thing were expensive back in the day. I like these old radios.

Ran a 78-876 40 channel rig for a few years. A close friend of mine was a genius on working these boards. They were common to a number of models like Colt and RCA. Wish I'd kept that radio. This is a great channel.

I was 13 (now 76) when Dad bought a 23 channel TUBE 'CITI-FONE' from Sears. They told us that this radio is the first 23 channel synthesized CB Radio on the market. All others are crystal units. I was in 8th grade. I grew up in West Phoenix. It would be wonderful if you found one. I would get a kick out of watching you restore it. I can dream, can't I? hahaha. 'Love your show.

Nice find. You guys find much more interesting old gear over there than we do this side of the pond. Do you have any enthusiastic young guys or girls just getting started in your area? Restoring and aligning this old set would make a fantastic learning exercise for someone like that

This stuff is everywhere here. Really wish there were. Seems kids today have their heads stock in mobile phones these days. There used to be a dozen cb shops around here within 50 miles. We closed ours down in 1998. Cannot find a shop in 100 miles now. All have past away and no one to carry on.

Hiya Buddy, thanks for the video. Your video reminds me of when I bought a new Midland 23 channel AM/SSB radio back in the mid-70's that cost $300.00, a lot of money at the time. And yes, Channel 16 LSB was the place to be and at that time Q codes were being used. I think it was around '76 when the 40 channel units came out. The radio that you purchased for $5 turned out well. Midland units were very popular during the CB boom of the 70's. Like the chopstick pointer you're using :). Again, thanks and God bless.

Came across your channel by accident...another GREAT old timey radio tech that knows exactly what he's at! Been repairing radios etc for the last 45 years myself here in Ireland. Looking forward to watching you repair stuff! Great to see another radio tech at work and their methods/test equipment etc and you know what you're doing! I'm working on a few radios right now one of them being a YEASU ZD101 mark 3 with a faulty LED display....the chip used in the display is marked Q12 "YEASU 9520 0Y90" But the proper part number for this chip is MSM9520RS and it seems a common fault for the display going faulty on these radios...I've done one or two in the past with faulty chips but now these chips are obsolete/hard to get but there is a "drop in" PIC micro board with a few mods to the daughter led board that need to be made. any advice/feedback is much appreciated from you/your followers. I've only watched two of your videos so far and looking forward to watching the rest! Keep up the great work/videos and a big thanks from Ireland!

Another radio saved from the junk pile! Being in the middle of Cycle 25 that would make a great 10m conversion project. Love those bench cookies! ;-). 73 Dino KLØS

I agree, simple to do these days, rip the crystal board out and replace with a DDS VFO, tube and you are set to go. Those bench cookies are great!

Just missed one of those in an auction. I have several other 23 channel radios I have converted to 10m with an Arduino or DDS module. Talking a few thousand miles on a converted CB and home brew beam is pretty cool. 73 de K4YKI.

Back when I used to operate CB, there was a mod you could add to the radio called a clarifier (maybe called a slider). Can you show how that was done? You don't really need to actually do it in the radio, just on the schematic. If you want to add it to the radio, that would be fine also. There was a guy in our area that would put it in for $50.00, and I don't think it was all that complicated. Thank You.
@TheRadioShop6 ай бұрын
Oh yes, been many years since I did that mod. Add voltage to one side of the pot, install a varator diode in line with the clarifier and bobs your uncle.

Those old Midlands are great units.I was going to suggest adding a VFO but you beat me to it. I know you're a ham guy, but I think you should fix it add the vfo and play on cb for a change,
@TheRadioShop6 ай бұрын
They are some good radios. Ham guy? I think more of myself as an RF guy. Got into cb when I was 12 and got into ham in the 90's. I have dozens of cb base units, Tram, Browning, Realistic, Pierce Simpson, Cobra, Midland, EF Johnson plus many more. Probably 50 or so vintage mobile rigs.

Glad I came across your channel, been looking everywhere for internal instructions on this model. So if I want to increase my output power I just need to drive the black screw out? Thanks!
@frankbagbey83726 ай бұрын
It sometimes just amazes me! A knob off the front is worth the 5 dollar purchase price! There sure were some great radios made back in the day, especially base equipment! Have a viewer drawing!

Keep it and interface it with one of those external vfo's to get it on 38 lsb. Who made the one on the bottom of the stack??
