Can the UNAS-Pro saturate its 10Gbps SFP+ port by writing to or reading from SSD/s, or through multiple users using the NAS simultaneously? Or will the hardware be a limiting factor here?
@LarsKlintTech6 күн бұрын
Good question. I'll aim to get as close to as I can soon, but I suspect I can get to 6G-ish with the standard HDD. The NAS itself should be able to handle 10G if the drives can.

An ARM Cortex A57 is somewhere in between a Raspberry PI 3 and 4. I wouldn't call that pretty powerful, especially for a NAS that is supposed to do RAID and integrity checks. How is that RAID realized? Is it BTRFS? It would be too little RAM for ZFS and I hope it isn't hardware RAID.

How does this unit handle drive expansion? Say I have all 7 bays filled and I need more storage...Can I swap a drive or two with higher capacities in place and it dynamically adjust the array to make that space available?
@LarsKlintTech23 күн бұрын
Not exactly. You can mark one drive as a "hot spare", which means you can hot swap them if it fails. I don't believe you can dynamically make the partitions bigger/smaller.

I must admit that I like the simple setup and administration, but there is more to a modern NAS than just security configuration and file storage. This would be an absolute killer app if it supported docker out of the box and integrated with network to provide reverse proxy services. This would open up a whole range of options, allowing the UNAS Pro to fill nearly all roles in a network stack that don't require a MS Windows server.

@@-iIIiiiiiIiiiiIIIiiIi- Honestly, not that many. Synology tends to cripple their Docker installs by using their own stripped down UI. QNAP can, but only on their top end models. Ahhhh so close of being a greatly useful device for me. The thing I don't get is why they're decoupling sharing drives and the shared links. In Google Drive, or Nextcloud, you can click any file or any folder, and you can share it with anyone, or you can simply create a link. Here you're stuck with only the link option. For users, it seems you can only share other entire drives? Not sub-folders? Why not combine both of these things: Want to share that folder? You can do a link. Or select a User of your desire. Or group...although when I saw other KZbinrs create a User, I didn't see an option for group :( I hope they rethink a bit.
@LarsKlintTechАй бұрын
That is a good point. You can share links to both files and folders, or you can assign a user to part of the drive. The idea is to integrate with Unifi ID I think, so you can access directly through that. It isn't designed to be a public cloud storage service.

I am looking forward to Ubiquiti maybe releasing a 4 bay version for people that want a slightly more economic version and not needing the 7 bays. Only thing I wish is that the PRO versions had 2 SPF+ ports so we could aggregate them and get 20gbps link to the switch. That would be nice on the Pro versions. That would be good for multiple clients. Is the UNAS Pro in General Access, or is it still Early Access? I noticed it is on the UI Store in the New Integartions section.

I understand that 'it is what it is', and if it does the job well, great. Power usage to me seems a bit high, and I would be much happier if I could use Protect and this NAS as a storage solution for the video files. I dont believe that's supported at the moment. Ive seen 10GB transfers hover around the 550GB mark in another review, I'd reaaaally like that to be nearer the 900MB mark, I look forward to an update when you receive the 10GB switch. I run Unifi 10GB, I have 10GB in my TrueNAS server, my Proxmox server, and my main gaming PC. They all pretty much hit the limit with SFP+ and fiber cabling.
