I now use a Milwaukee 12v and have their battery soldering Iron too. as I would have used them before 110 punch and mulit tools were Around being a one-man installer should look for ways to make your job site easier and less of a balancing act..

Love how the Led on port 42 at the first site here stays on blinking. Wauw, what gear should be replaced years ago. (Around 1:35) But whare are those a bunch of fragile racks. I would suggest to replace all that, even since you allready placed the UniFi gear.

Hello. May I ask under what circumstance you would use the mini switch on the UDM Pro. I noticed on site 1 it looked like you had around 2 ports on the UDM Pro mini switch in use.

All depends but generally yes. There are exceptions to firewall rules though. They may need to add others

I also used Cody’s video on setting VLANs and firewall rules for my Unifi network. Worked perfectly until last month when Ubiquiti did and update and now none if my VLANs work 😩. Been in back and forth with their support trying to figure it out, may end up doing a factory reset and starting over ☹️. Strange hobby for a 70 year old retired guy.

No, in the predeployment video he did, he set the speed of the DACs to 1gbit, as these are the standard 48 port switches, and they only have SFP ports. Also, it doesn't matter much, as the UDM pro is only used for internet connectivity and their outside line is not above 1gbit

How come you always put the top screws in the switches first ? If you use the bottom holes it holds the switch properly :)

I've seen plenty of light weight devices installed with only the 2 bottom screws. The weight of the device puts the bottom 2 screws in tension and the top 2 screws in compression. The top of the rackmount brackets are carrying compression, not the screws. The top screws may help with alignment of the device. If you are installing 0.5U patch panels the panels have 4 holes but only 2 holes will line up depending on whether the panel is installed at the top of the U or the bottom of the U. 0.5U blank panels will only have 2 screw holes with the expectation that the panel will be flipped over when you need to use the bottom 2 holes or the top 2 holes. That being said, patch panels can have different loads depending on the cable management behind the panel and how the patch cables are supported in front of the panel. At a minimum screws should be in all 4 corners of each panel. Some devices are extremely heavy and require support at the rear of the rack as well. Data Centers also use device lifts for large UPSes, storage servers, and blade servers as they are very expensive and far exceed the recommended maximum lift capacity of staff. On rare occasion I have seen rack holes drilled and tapped to larger bolt sizes to carry additional weight. It is more common to use larger brackets or heavy duty shelves that require more U space for strength even if the device is a smaller number of Us.

@@WhitentonMike Exactly, the bottom screws are the most important and hold the load of the device. Another trick when racking equipment, is to put 2 screws "UNDER" the bottom holes to hold the switch while you mount it. When done remove them. Kinda like a shelf :)
