We ended up exchanging this model for the slimmer version kzbin.infoUgkx0jZ_lGlDVJhDnmagEU8gn47cmfPNlLQU because it was too wide for the only door trim area that made sense to mount it on. However, we should have just noted the dimensions prior to purchasing. Otherwise, we love the doorbell. It works perfectly, and the video is very clear, even at night.

I’ve always thought of it in terms of the smartphone market, if you want a more flexible system with more customizable features, you go with Samsung (Hikvision). If you want a system that is simply plug and play with minimal setup that works out of the box, but is far less customizable, you go with Apple (Ubiquiti). Ubiquiti even have the Apple style packaging too.

High megapixel are not always the best camera for a given situation, so you do need to compare. So many people get caught in the megapixel trap rather than getting the correct camera for the job. Even some MSP's and Security Installers get caught in the megapixel trap. A big example is night vision. The pixel to sensor size ration becomes a big thing when considering night vision. OFten a lower MP camera will do better in low light situations. A bigger sensor with lower megapixels will give a better image in low light.

@@privateundisclosed4448 Shoot for cameras with 1/1.8" sensors or larger. Those will give you 4k without nearly all the software tricks. The newest ones are 1/1.2". The G4 and G5 get closer at 1/2" but when you measure sensor size the 1/1.2" I believe is around 130% bigger. More photons hitting a larger sensor, hence the better picture.

I tend to agree with this comparison. But...here's the problem whicha avoinds me to use Ubiquiti and that's absensw of H265. If i compare needed disk space if u use H264 VS. H265+ it's almoat 80% down. If Hikvision would fix their management and IWSM4200 which is crap then no further disussion.

Hikvision wins all the way. I’d never put the Unifi stuff in unless I only needed a couple of cameras and a unifi network already existed. Hikvision is a CCTV company and Ubiquiti just aren’t. The line up isn’t big enough so there aren’t cameras suitable for every situation. We have 100’s of Hikvision and HiLook cameras in use and I can’t see any reason to change. I install UniFi networks as my go to networking and WiFi gear and Hikvision for cctv. If you’re installing for a company that has sensitive stuff that you think the Chinese might be interested in then they will tell you, other than that the security risk isn’t an issue for most customers. The Hik interface is a bit old looking, it’s like navigation a Bios from 20 years ago but if you know what your doing it will piss on anything UniFi has to offer.

Good effort by an IT guy, but security installers globally will show many reasons why a proper CCTV system is the better choice for actual security. They'll also understand basic concepts like wide dynamic range, sensor size and lens size, and where to use what. This is a smart guy, but he's straying a bit outside his lane.

Don't forget Ubiquiti's poor response and opaqueness with being breached earlier this year. They lost a lot of user confidence there. Since you give weight to security, surprised you didn't mention that fact.

In a few words, the CCP is not welcome on my network. Ubiquiti, Google or any US company that has good person detection will always be my first choice. I guess 2 hours away is too much effort to sell me a system. Any case thanks for the information.

LOL I am so sorry but how dumb is this? I mean come on. Uni for the WIN Neither of these systems are a Win.. FFS.. 1 Thing I like the look of the Uni do to the Front facing Ports (If that was NVR and not a Switch lOL) However with that said that is because I rack mount my devices. My switches are front facing , My patch panels are font facing and I have to Change placement for my NVR because my Ports are on the back.. However I am sorry but there are much better systems out there that are Hikvision OEM that offer P2P and that is 1000000% better then any Open Port system.. I have over 10 running DVR/NVR systems running, I have only 1 OEM Hikvision DVR left in my Setup because to be honest I don't like all the BS that people are talking about DVR is bad because NVR is 4k blah blah blah and that isn't true.. I have 8mp NVR and DVR alike and to be honest the DVR works just as good (Better) then the NVR's in truth. When I reset a NVR I have to make so much changes unlike the DVR. I reset a DVR I can have it setup and running with all Grids setup within 1/3 the time it would take me to just Reset a NVR and have to make all Adjustments to the Cameras passwords. If I needed to Reset a 16ch NVR and 16 IP cameras as well it would take 1/16th the time to Reset a DVR and setup Motion.. Or Even IVS on my AI DVR.. Also I have a DVR that I can connect over 2000 feet from my camera can't do that with a NVR without having extra hardware in the setup... Buy Dahua or Dahua OEM like Amcrest. There is so much better options, Night color is awesome, Multi type record setup at the same time. multi type view setup.. Hard to say anything bad about Amcrest. I am sorry Hikvision OEM support is JUNK.. They don't support the end users like Northern Video will tell you to contact your Installer. They don't sale to End users.. Annke does try and help even End users but Products are JUNK and they deny being a Hikvision OEM provider when people are smarter then they are and know better. (They don't even buy their own Mac Addresses like Amcrest does) Yeah Dahua and Hikvision is on Ban list for GOV that is because of some bad issues that are not really as bad as the Orange man has made it out to be lol.. I have 3 Northern DVR's first one back in 2010, then new one 2012 or 13 and the last was in 2016 it was not until an issue in 2018 that I was really unhappy with them and that was when I needed Support. Being told by some one that Calles them self a Specialist that a product I owned couldn't do what I wanted it to do and they don't support it anymore because it was EOL and none in the building to test out What a JOKE.. Annke bought some 5mp recorders to cure my issue of needing TVI for 5mp cameras to get a recorder that don't have RS-485, Chrome didn't work, and Support was little better but change 40+ to return product bought from them to replace it F that.. Again my Recorders and cameras from Amcrest/Dahua can Record multi type events at same time scheduled. Fulltime, Motion, Alarm, MD/Alarm, and even IVS.. Support is good even if and when it is bad.. POE NVR poe camera connect and it up on screen just that fast.. 2018 DVR 16ch 8mp has ability to be 24ch with 8ch IP out of the box.. I have it setup as 6 BNC and 18 IP and works great.. That is only 1 of many but is one of the best for ability it offers 7108-AI and 4216E-AI are the next best I own, With 4116e-HS and others with in that line..

One is a Chinese brand, and one is Amelican brand. Both countries are competitors, but when a govt has to step into every category of the business to declare a national security risk on well known Chinese brands while the US govt is the biggest security risk on this planet, I think everyone has a brain can figure out the correct answer.
