QAM modulation has been used for 50-plus years in different data modems and now on of the larger uses is in Fiber Optic light modulation. from Q 4 to Q64 it divided the 360 degrees into the number of sectors that will contain different bytes of info to be transmitted. Cenia uses it for their 800Gbps fiber mux to give transport companies the ability to have enough bandwidth to feed the needs of Cell 5G users to have the amount of data throughput to handle.

The 320MHz bandwidth will depend on the channels available in a particular country, If you select a channel that doesn't have enough consecutive / contiguous channels available, you will be limited to lower bandwidth. Like WiFi 6 in Australia can only use 160MHz in the Indoor channel range ( low channels, like 36 and 40 ) because not enough channels are available in higher channel numbers to give more than 80Mhz bandwidth. I am not sure what Australia has for 320MHz in 6GHz on WiFi 7, but I know in 5GHz for WiFi 6, we only have 1 160Mhz channel block possible and it runs into the indoor DFS range. That's where having the additional spatial streams can come in handy. Even if your device can only do 2x2, you can get better speed from multiple devices if you have more spatial streams avaliable.
@LarsKlintTechАй бұрын
Yes, that is possibly my favourite feature of Wifi 7, that devices can use multiple streams at the same time. Make so much sense.

My AC Pro died last week, 7 years old. Fast forwarded through your review to get the gist of what you thought of it, then rushed to Scorptec to pick up the U7 Pro. Very happy I did, this thing is awesome! Thanks to the Cloud Key there was zero effort in moving the 25 odd clients to the new one; I just separated 6ghz to a new AP (with only 6ghz) so that my one and only 6E device (S21 Ultra) wouldn't switch back for I'm guessing band steering reasons. Speeds are just astounding. Love my Unifi gear, thanks for the review!
@LarsKlintTech3 ай бұрын
Thanks for sharing mate. I have a separate SSID for 6ghz, but not dedicated APs. The speed is really good still though (when it connects to the 6ghz APs), and I am definitely noticing it moving large video files around on the network.
@JSmith733 ай бұрын
@@LarsKlintTech Ah, I actually meant an additional wireless network (ssid) - not a separate physical unit. The U7Pro handles multiple wireless networks very nicely! The old one has succumbed to a power issue I think, LED all faded and could only get 0.5mbit/s download. I have my desktop computers physically wired, but my Ryzen AM4 HTPC also has a 6E wireless connection - I'd get just sub 2ms latency to Speedtest, vs just under 1ms when wired. And around 650mbit/a sustained downloads from the FTTP - IMHO, that's crazy fast. (Signal travels around a corner and through an 8 year old 65" TV).

"Auto" under the channel section for the device is for the selection of channel only. It does not automatically adjust the channel width (this must be selected manually).
@LarsKlintTech4 ай бұрын
Ah, of course. And the "scan" function decides the channel width?
@mastiha4 ай бұрын
@@LarsKlintTechThe scan function displays the coverage of the currently selected width but does not make any changes. You need to adjust the width manually. A good starting point is 40 MHz for 2.4 GHz and 80 MHz for 5 GHz. The Unifi defaults are conservative because wider channels can create more noise for your neighbours, which is more significant in urban areas.

@AlexanderPavel4 ай бұрын
@@mastiha Please don't use anything other than 20MHz for 2.4 GHz in a city or even suburban area. The only point of 2.4GHz now is for low power, low bandwidth devices, so you really don't need the extra performance that a wider channel could provide. Further, you can only get 3 nonoverlapping channels with 20MHz on 2.4 GHz (1, 6, and 11) and with 40MHz, you'll likely start overlapping other channels and cause a lot of extra interference. Multiple devices sharing the same channel can handle each other quite well, but unaligned channels is very difficult for WiFi to handle. 80 MHz for 5GHz should be fine though as the 5GHz band has a lot more space and there will likely be a couple of spots being shared by other devices with 80MHz width. 160MHz on 5GHz will likely start to lead to interference from other channels though.

It's the carrier modulation rate, it's not stated as 'gbe' as its not ethernet, the modulation rates are part of the 802.3 specification its about the most accurate thing they can quote - its unfortunate if you think it means you can achieve that rate at the TCP/IP level. If you want real throughput data then you can find that out for your scenario.
