While I did try and show the most important features of the phone, I think I spent way too long talking about the cameras so if you need to use them then that's no problems!
A massive thank you to Unihertz for sending me this sample out for review!
I really do appreciate it :)
Link is here: s.click.aliexpress.com/e/_oll...
It's not an affiliate link so no pressure there.
You are not obliged to click it, just there for your convenience.
My opinions in this video are my own, I am not being paid by Unihertz or AliExpress, they have just sent out the sample for me to review which is what I like to do :)

Welcome back to another in-depth phone review of a brand we have previously seen on this channel and that is UNIHERTZ!
So I was originally impressed with the Unihertz Titan I reviewed a while back and I have been offered some of their other products but declined them due to the other videos I was making. But when Unihertz reached out and said "We have a phone that's ready to come out...would you like to review it" - after I seen the pictures I said "YES".
Thus we have "PROJECT LUNA"...or just the Unihertz Luna to be not so fancy.
This is a phone with LEDs on the back! BUT...hasn't another company already done that?
And the design is "inspired" from said other company and other company?
So for $299 USD...what does this Nothing Phone clone have to offer?
Well prepare yourselves for an hour and a half of me rambling about this phone.
Tl;dw - probably not worth it :(
I promise from here I will be back to cheapo phones as I have a LOT to review soon :)
Please get yourself comfy, relax and watch the review of the SOMETHING PHONE...it's definitely something for sure.
Be good people!

best phone, still using it. Sad that 300$ flagship killers (with the top QCOM SoC) aren't really a thing anymore. Phones just got too expensive (And I think this will actually hurt the phone industry. Atleast I would have replaced my phones 1 or 2 years ago if such a flagship killer was a available), with the high prices I will still wait to buy one. My Poco is now almost 5 years old - crazy... Still very much usable, Android /phone software finally seems to have reached the point where the basic requirements don't change that much anymore. PCs reached this with Windows Vista 15 years ago. A 2008 PC is still plenty fast for browsing the web and doing everyday tasks

@@TheRailroad99 This! Mine had the audio die on me completely. Opened it up, seems like a motherboard issue. Been extremely frustrated with the whole Android scene, not only do these devices not exist, but devices at even higher price points are becoming worse. Poco as a brand included, I mean just look at the X3, which was a budget midrange phone at $200, and then look at the X4 and X5. Samsung decided "horseshit" was an acceptable substitute for "phone", Huawei can't use good quality hardware to pair up with their incredible software, Xiaomi became a premium brand. The fact that a used iPhone makes sense in 2023 is insulting, since Apple isn't, and has never been a high bar to clear. I bought one off a fella here, I do honestly think it's the only way to go if you don't want compromise, but also don't want to spend multiple months worth of rent, or a facy vacation at some designer jungle hut on Airbnb. I literally don't know of a phone that's receiving that much software support love from developers. Like maybe a pixel? But those cameras just ain't the best anymore.

It's nice to hear these companies are sending you the devices, it's well deserved and will hopefully help your channel grow further. Your style works wonders even on these more higher end devices. They're long, but they're very helpful and gives us a good idea on what the device can/can't do that I don't really get from other reviewers. The fairly lengthy enough gaming section is actually something I'm very interested at and those who aren't into that can still either be entertained by it or just skip along thanks to your well though out chapters. Still ended up having a nice, chill time watching all of it even if I need to take a couple breaks in between. I've seen some KZbinrs cover this unihertz device but none as in depth as this. I am personally looking forward to seeing what the Nothing Phone 2 brings to the table. I was tempted to get the first one but I am starting to have too many phones as is and I don't even review them 😂

I watched the whole thing without using a single timestamp. Some thoughts: 1) Quick Charge is Qualcomm's standard for fast charging. The one everyone else uses, even OnePlus uses as a fallback when you don't have a VOOC charger handy, is USB Power Delivery. Many (all?) other Snapdragon flagships support both QC and the faster versions of PD. I use an old Moto Turbo Power brick (QC Quick Charge with a different name for marketing reasons) to charge a Mediatek tablet and WiFi hotspot and the brick knows to drop down to PD-1 automatically. 2) I don't think I've ever seen you this underwhelmed before. Frustrated, yes. But underwhelmed, nah. It's one of those phones where it's cool if you win it in an online sweepstakes, but isn't worth paying for. I like Unihertz's business model of reviving older designs for the modern era. I keep hoping Unihertz will knock-off the Xperia Play. This Nothing phone knockoff appears to have been a mistake. What's the point? 3) Yes, I read the message and I heard something. It sounded like burping.

Thank you for the review! I am actually a big fan of the Unihertz brand as they strive to make phones that stand out in a competitive market. Have you considered reviewing the Unihertz Jelly 2? I own one and it's a tiny, cute curiosity with a 3-inch display, headphone jack, NFC, programmable button, fingerprint sensor, LTE, infrared port, and even a hand warmer, as it tends to overheat! It costs around 200 USD, but if you're looking for a more budget-friendly option, you can go with the Jelly 2E for about 160 USD, which has lower specs. Think of it more as a feature phone that easily fits into your pocket but operates on a normal Android system. I'm sure your audience would love to see your thoughts on it. Keep up the awesome work!

kind of sad that unihertz needed this. I know unihertz for very special niche devices (like keyboard phones or phones with a weird form factor). Maybe, if they are reading the comments: Please make a small (but not tiny) device, something around 5 to 5.5 inches, but modern (small bezels) with top specs (Qualcomm, not MediaTek. MediaTek is unusable as most MTK devices get very bad update support and MTK has poor open source resources for LineageOS etc). Something like the iPhone mini series, but for android. Sadly, there are not many phones like this. Pixel 4a for example was great (however not top specs), the zenphone was great as well (and indeed had top specs, but AFAIK a locked bootloader). It will be a niche device, so make sure people will like it by having it unlockable. Many big brands (namely OnePlus, Xiaomi, and partially also Oppo) got big because power users / nerds recommended them to other people. (Great examples are the older OnePlus devices or Pocophone series - both sold better than expected because of this effect). The phone could be priced in the $400 - 550 region (I guess less is not really possible for flagship spec CPUs).

As you said many times in your video, the Helio G99 is not a good fit for this device. Per the spec sheet on MediaTek's webiste, G99 lacks 5G support and can only encode and decode video at up to 2560x1440, which is why you can't record in 4K with this device. I have been collecting Unihertz devices (for some reason) and they've had some great hits and some sour misses. The TickTock comes to mind as another Unihertz phone that doesn't live up to its potential; the subscreen was cool for about an hour and then I realized the implementation was pretty useless. I don't think you did a review of the TickTock, but it would probably be interesting to take a look at. There are two updated, smaller models as well with the same dual-screen concept. I've had a Titan as my primary phone for over two years now, and I still love it. I'd love to see a refresh of the Titan in a similar form factor, keeping the massive 4.6" square screen. I will probably buy a Luna soon as a curiosity, but I agree that it misses the mark in several ways. I really appreciate the in-depth looks you take at all these devices. You're awesome!

so i got this phone back when you posted this video because i needed something to replace my galaxy s10. and getting it on amzn meant i could return it if it came as hat garbage. aside from the google play store blocking installs of apps "that are not compatible with this device" sideloading them worked fine in 9 out of 10 instances. like i can still update genshin if i bash my fists at my keyboard and find an updater that will work. load it from my pc to my phone then let it take its sweet time to actually install. it still plays well enough i can run around in game on a bus ride. the only other issue i have is battery life. i think it suffers from hung background tasks and will just. tank at random until i reboot it to prevent it from making me worry its gonna set my pocket on fire. i used your video to add thermal compound to it and its been -better-

Was only a matter of time until something like the Nothing Phone One turned up. But sadly - this one does not take the idea of flashy LEDs - and give it its own spin. The "glyph" interface looks like a cheap copy of the Nothing phone. As for the specs - while i do not think that you need top of the line specs (like do not need those AT ALL) ... i think phones, cheapo phones should have specs like a Samsung S9 or S10 these days. I can get a used (but pristine condition) S10+ or S10 5g ... for roughly 150$ today. The Nothing Phone One costs 400$ for heavens sake ... ( + import tax, because my country sucks when it comes to global trade deals) ... and the Nothing Phone is a very, very solid phone, spec wide as well as build quality wise. This Luna phone "should" be of similar or better quality when it comes to its build .. because its specs are worse. So why buy a 400$ Luna, when you can buy a 400$ Nothing phone....

the lights also make it just absolutely cook. i think they are using some kinda janky led driver system that is hugely overcurrenting the led effects. but all in all turning them on on a dark walk or as a "party trick" is fun! aside from mine having a good selection of them being mismatched in brightness so some colors have gross color shifted bands like a failing OLED

kinda like the old nokia days when people would mods the phones with leds to have multi color keypads or similar ..also the leds at the kinda remind me of the old nokia 3220 with the multi color leds which go off when a call comes in .

this was long for sure, man i'll be honest, i didn't liked the nothing phone since it basically took up an iphone and used up some leds and android. so this is even worse lol, they are copying an already uninspired device, but for a really cheap price it could work. i really love the red magic, that fan is amazing! the little burps at the end were priceless

I think this keyboard looks a lot more like a neon sign than the nothing phone. I also think the luna actually has RGB unlike the nothing phone. I would assume that the asus ROG phone would have similar RGB, though from what I saw it's not as in your face as this, but there is a screen on the back which I guess makes up for it.

Oh wow, headphone jack and IR port! Nice. No OLED display, also nice (not prone to burn in)! No removable battery and no microSD slot. Not a flagship Snapdragon CPU either. *cries* That was fairly close to what I wanted in a phone.

Af far as I can see, the "Brighten with HDR"/"HDR effect" thing Google Photos is trying to sell you isn't related to the phone's actual HDR camera feature. It offers me the same thing on regular old jpg files that aren't from my camera, and even memes that weren't made with a camera. It just seems to be some brightness/contrast/gamma/saturation twiddling that presumably looks nicer on images with 10-bit color where it can reveal over- and underexposed areas better. Similarly Google Photos' "blur background" effect is just some AI background select thing, and works fine even though my phone doesn't have a depth sensor.

Unihertz has done a really good job making the UI, especially in the settings. The only things that may hold us back is the MediaTek chipset, the camera design (kinda Apple ripoff) and the thickness.
@Knaeckebrotsaege
@Knaeckebrotsaege 9 ай бұрын
Honestly wouldn't mind the thickness if it meant we'd finally get decent batteries (7000+mAh) so the damn things last 2 days or more. If it had a Snapdragon and a better camera (OIS) the resulting phone would have a damn good chance of being my next phone

You could get a decent used Pixel 6, maybe even a Pro with a few scratches for this price, all with 4K video and 5G support. The lights are cool, but the lack of modern features in exchange is a bit of a drag at that price point.

Throughly enjoyed the video. I admit I watched this after the new "jelly" video. Which I was really quite impressed with. This was a bit of a let down from the get go. Lol Before even getting to the camera tests I had gone on Amazon and bought myself a new phone, but not this. Lol To answer a few questions. Yes Ghost hunting would be fun to watch. The LEDs do look better reversed. The crazy cat man within me totally adores Ripley. Her markings and big white belly are adorable. My girl ,Dervla, does not approve of me paying attention to another cat. Lol 😅😅😅

Honestly, for the 'new' device, I CANNOT PUT this thing TOO BADLY. Sure, you can go in the market and find second-hand phones with much better specs and stuffs in equal or lower price, but for generic device that does everyday stuffs, this thing is in 'very good' range tbh. It features all parts that aren't outdated, very large storage capacity, very large RAM, and 'weird' gimmicks for only $299. This thing is still 'much' better in terms of specs compared to so many of cutting edge budget interbrand phones out there (I bet the best you'd get in retail is 6 GB of RAM, 128 GB of storage, and lowest specs 5G chip). I seriously doubt if you are able to find interbrand phones with this specs, since this phone is 4G with one of best availability and good chip (Helio G99). Only put down of mine is that the cooling system could be done much better. For now it only rely on display to spread heat and in fact that the display is the heat generator itself. This thing won't last long in intensive tasks especially Genshin Impact. Phones in this price range could have graphene cooler. Another nit-pick thing is that camera is rather sub par quality for all camera stuffs inside. Many of budget interbrand phones still win in this particular case. I talk with my experience owning similar phone, although mine doesn't heat up like crazy although Genshin Impact 60 FPS is still nono without external cooling. And I think that this device could serve people with thoughts of changing phones in occasions, plus not having to go into headache finding best devices your money can buy, or putting in a risk of getting some random stuffs from previous owner, etc. Still, if you wanna go cheap with best specs, this is not an option, but for reasonably cheap phones without the need to deal with person, this thing could perfectly serve you.

They certainly put nothing into it. I wouldn't touch it for that price, it's not even a Snapdragon. They could have put "LUNA" down the back and included a mini extra screen, that would be a little more unique. Put EL around the edges as it's low power and won't generate heat. Do something someone else did, but do it better.

This phone is really a welcome device that put huge price on it to F with people thinking its nothing phone, so they buy it, thinking they found nice deal for original model. Yeah, camera is nice, lights are cool but rest? NOPE, avoid. For that price you can get Galaxy A52s 5G that I bought for my mother last year and its amazing, AMOLED screen, IP67, nice camera with cool AR tricks and run most of games without a problem. Or you can pick Poco X5 Pro that for me personally is big flop but its solid phone for everyone that really is a "phone that just work"(its just not X series as I remember but it is solid model for non power users.).
