UniMelb warns pro-Palestine encampment of ‘serious consequences’ if not disbanded

Students at the University of Melbourne in Australia (UniMelb) set up a pro-Palestine encampment, renaming Arts West Hall as Mahmoud's Hall in memory of Mahmoud al-Nouq, a prospective UniMelb student who was killed in Gaza.
Following the announcement, the university requested the students to disperse their encampment, warning of "serious consequences" and stating that the university would take actions that could escalate tensions.
Two hours later, UniMelb for Palestine, a grassroots coalition of students, staff and alumni supporting Palestine and the primary organiser of the encampment, announced its intention to continue until the university severs all ties with Israel. They shared videos on their X account, showing students chanting and calling for the university to sever ties.

UniMelb cancelled all classes in that hall and tried to blame the encampment for the disruption, but really that was the executives weak ass decision, the encampment wasn't blocking classes from taking place - this has been a weak play by the Uni executive which will probably end up reflecting poorly on them in the future when they have to make other decisions or backtrack on this decision - they might think they can wait out the protesters and it will die down but the University may run out of time and have to break first, or they send in the cops or security and risk making a situation worse

It's kind of sad, because there are other students who came from abroad to study in Australia and be met with this kind of disruptions. They also have dreams for their future same with the children in Gaza.
