The final fight does encourage you to use all magic types. The boss changes his "type" in a small cutscenes each time to let you know. It's difficult to tell which type though so just swap out your magic until he's "Vulnerable". I agree though, this was one of the most mid games I've played in a minute. Combat and traversal is the best part so, get it on a DEEP sale if you really want to try it.

I love how the entire plot of the game is set in motion because Frey was too stupid to grab the bag of money that was right next to her before getting her cat and this is why Square should let the writing to their Japanese team and not the newer western division.

I’ve noticed a trend with Square Enix that a lot of the games they release are testing grounds/ prototypes for other titles in the future. Example. Final fantasy 15 was all testing for the mechanics and world design of FF7 backwards. Forespoken feels like a testing ground for their next Final Fantasy title.

Watching you play I came to the same conclusion you did. The combat system was the one thing that was coherent and fleshed out and everything else was an after thought. Honestly I think they over complicated the plot and halfway through gave up on telling a story. If they had laid out a brain dead simple story to get you from point A to point B that gets you to the combat quicker then maybe this game would have been received better.

I can agree that story is half cooked and even many of the voice performances fail to deliver but I had fun playing it personally I can only hope that Square take the building blocks that work in this game and make a competant sequel or even a new journey with a new protagonist like Prototype 2

The final boss does change elements, he'll flash the color of the magic he becomes weak to make you use all of your powers you were just fighting him with brute force lol, the final boss fight is ultimately still trash tho even on the hardest difficulty.

I think these reasons might be why people say the game is woke, although "feminist" might be more accurate: The powerful leaders and magic-users are all women. Frey's father is missing too but Frey never asks about him, when she finally finds her mother, she doesn't mention who he is and Frey doesn't bother to ask. Frey is a "girl boss" in the sense that she constantly berates and belittles everyone around her so she can be seen as "tough" and "cool." The male-voiced Cuff is the true villain.

I recently played this game but held off bc of the online discourse and imma be 💯 about it. The game is bad. But not for the reasons everyone thinks. You’re right tho there’s nothing political about the game so if you expect me to go off on some political rant this ain’t for you. When I play a game I think about dialogue, how it looks, how it plays, the structure, the story, the acting, and overall if I would want to tell someone to play it. They dialogue is beyond bad. Dunno who wrote any of this but they must retire as of negative 7 minutes ago. It’s my biggest gripe with the game and it shows that no one is able to write characters in a way to make you care. I’m not gonna lie, I checked out of that department when I heard “Who the eff knows”. Like cool she’s sarcastic, rude, and tries to say things that she thinks is comedic. but other that who is she and why should I care about anyone in the game. The graphics and look of the game are iffy at best. Sometimes it looks pretty decent other times it’s booty butt cheek. Playing it is like a button masher and it doesn’t upset me a whole lot bc some games like that can be fun. Until we get to the leveling. Mega trash. Enough said. The story is pretty basic to the point where I predicted most the ending and story without watching one video on the game. And no the acting is really bad. Sorry but it is. And no I rather not recommend this to anyone. Sorry for being late to the party and sorry for it being long but I miss seeing criticism on something that is actually criticism. Not political whining.
