She was told to go after his insurance after a delivery driver hit her car. The only problem? He didn't have any. Why the company involved said they wouldn't help, and then she got FOX 4 on her side.

This is a common thing now. People with valid DL, Reg, and insurance sign up for multiple delivery service accounts and they they make money by renting out the accounts to people who would not be eligible on their own.

This happened to me with an Uber Driver. Knowing most companies will fight tooth and nail to defend their reputation, I immediately retained a lawyer to write a letter to Uber regarding my accident and that I would accept a $10,000 payment in return for not pursuing charges. I work in car insurance and honestly this is a once in a lifetime thing when someone will actually get compensation like this from a company, it’s only because she went to the news to report it. This is why it’s very important to always have your own car insurance as well. Unfortunately people don’t always have insurance on the road so you have to cover yourself, always. Most likely this guy signed up for spark in the beginning and had the active insurance and a valid registration but then he stopped making payments on it OR he probably was using someone else’s app to perform the work and used his own car, it happens all the time. That’s probably why they couldn’t find him in the system.

No insurance, drivers license or both a driver responsible for all cost involved not just to the owner of the vehicle they hit but cover 100% of cost to the insurance company. As far as the driver not meeting the requirements to drive for Spark delivery on behalf of Walmart they should also be fined and Walmart Corporate should send this woman $1K in gift cards to Walmart or the Retailer of her choice for her troubles since the driver was delivering a Walmart order. The Vetted Driver should also pay this woman and Spark needs to set up stiffer penalties for drivers who share accounts.

This is more widespread than you can imagine. Even with taxi drivers, there are certified drivers (did the simple 1 week course of how to turn on / off a meter, how to use the terminal) who teach their friends how to do it (in their native language) and their friend drives the taxi. This is one of the reasons why ID cards started coming out (for those who bother to display it properly. I saw one training the other pretty well outside my house (they lived across the street) [about 8 taxi drivers in a 2 bedroom house] . Of course at 3am and 3pm, you'd hear lots of noise [loud talking / banging doors / car alarms going off] 7 days a week.

Meanwhile my insurance for a 2007 Chevy POS just increased by 50%. The car isn’t worth the insurance cost, it’s just basic coverage. Spark needs to do better about making sure the people that are supposed to be delivering the items are the ones doing so. This happens all the time. I’m in Fresno, CA and use this service all the time. It will say that a woman is bringing my items and 8 out of 10 times it’s a man dropping the items off. So it’s clearly not the person that it’s supposed to be using the account. I’m guessing based on their appearance, they would never pass the background check either.
