Anyone relying on this video better read their policy close to see exactly what would be covered in their state. Every uninsured/underinsured policy I've ever read, only covers bodily injury claims. All property damage is not covered by uninsured/underinsured policy, but instead would be covered by the Collision portion of the policy. Also, to collect on the uninsured/underinsured policy, you need to sue the other driver, and your own insurance company will defend the other driver, forcing you to work to prove the other driver is responsible. I've personally seen that happen in a court case.

I was just in an accident with an at-fault uninsured motorist and I didn't have to do that. I just got the check for the value of the car less my deductible and the insurance company tried to collect from the other driver what they paid me. In fact, your insurance company will probably make you sign a subrogation agreement prohibiting you from suing the other driver until they try first.

@@splooie02 Since you mentioned a deductible, you collected on the collision portion of your policy, not the uninsured motorist part.

This indeed is true in some states. If I am understanding you correctly, some states will not allow you to use your Uninsured Motorist coverage to pay for a hit and run claim. I also completely agree with you that insurance companies have high prices for no reason at all, as the insurance industry total is worth over 7 trillion dollars.

What if a driver in the same household (a relative) was not excluded , not listed and causes an accident with your vehicle with "UM" Coverage ? (At fault) Would the insured vehicle's policy cover damages for the other party (not at fault) ? In the State of Georgia

Hey you can look to take them to small claims court to recover the damages. What state are you currently in, as the state can determine your options?

Bottom line a law should be put forward to penalize Uninsured and Underinsured motorist especially if they aren't following the state law on the amount of required coverages on their policy. Insured motorist that have State Law required amount coverage are the ones paying for the damages with increases on their policy as a result and a required deductible. This coverage for Uninsured and Underinsured coverage has increased substantially with Allstate. In 2013 Uninsured and Underinsured on policy was $69.76 every six months now starting in 2023 Allstate is charging $269.54 for this coverage in a six month period. It's no wonder there's been an increase with coverage and consequently an increase in Uninsured and Underinsured Motorist .

Nearly ALL articles/vlogs regarding "should I get UM/UIM" are SURPRISE!, by Insurance Brokers, Agents and/or Attorneys, and unsurprisingly, they all say "load up." California (my home State) is a comically notorious "save the planet/save the people from themselves" police-State, yet waives requiring UM/UIM coverage? Why would such a "let's keep everyone safe!" State do that? I searched and searched for ONE single article/vlog that answers WHY MOST STATES DON'T require UM/UIM coverage and couldn't find ONE. Nada. Are the non-UM/UIM requiring States leaders just callous morons who like putting people in imminent danger by waiving UM/UIM, or is it possible they crunched the numbers and figured out why UM/UIM is so cheap to begin with ($10 to $15 a month)? My money (pardon the pun) says, when one does objectively crunch the numbers, in spite of the "terrifying" (cough!) 1 in 8 drivers not having insurance, the statistical likelihood of a good driver having a car accident WITH an uninsured driver is EXOTICALLY unlikely...and consequently makes that "hey, it's only $15 more a month, you'll be sorry if you don't" payment exposed for what it just might be...another padded-up fee to bilk the masses out of their hard-earned money through instilling erroneous fear.
