Wonderful footage of steam trains in beautiful South Africa. Makes me regret not taking more interest in those trains when I was living in South Africa in 1984. But great to see that several people have recorded their versions. Magnificent rugged mountain scenery over Michell's pass.

Hi Andrew. Many thanks for your comment. This was a trip I will never forget and I only wish it were possible to do it again. The scenery was wonderful, the train experience was unique, and the staff were incredibly friendly and helpful.

Hi Jan, Glad you enjoyed the film. During the tour we had a total of 13 different steam loco's and lived on the train. Sadly these trains no longer run, but I have fantastic memories of my time there.

Great video John, pity the camera failed. The Union Limited trains were fantastic, was lucky enough to have travelled on the 1991 trip which included the steam festival in Kimberley. Met David Shepherd and Dust Durrant.....Happy days!

Hi John, Many thanks for your kind comments. I also took a number of still photos which I will now consider assembling into a tape and slide presentation for KZbin. You may also be interested in some of my other films, one of which about a journey on the Outinique Choo Choo I put on KZbin yesterday. There is also a film taken at Victoria Falls in 1988 if you are interested in African Railways.

dieselmupke Many thanks for your comments. I really appreciate your interest and interest in my film. This was a memorable trip and I am sorry I couldn't film the rest of the.journey, which finished up in Willowmore, before we returned to Capetown. The moral of the story is never to rely on one make of camera for those important moments. J

Great video... but can someone tell my why poorer communities live in squalor 26.25. Surely they can clean around their homes, or is it a lost sense of pride?
@rudolfhough6226Ай бұрын
There is no sense of a lost pride, just a sense of entitlement instilled by many years of collective EU proppaganda. The collective must look after them and do it free of charge. The old National Party built 40 classrooms a day for black people for more than 34 years plus made the various Nationalities independant, nevertheless this was judged to be an "apartheid crime against humanity" and swapped for the Collective Communist ANC Goverment, hence the entitlement and squalor.
