Nice camera work, lovely full length shots of train at speed. That's how machinery should be used: well maintained, proper (UP) livery, straining at full capacity, & doing productive work. Americans should take pride in this engineering legacy, especially big steam. I'm glad UP have "picked up the ball" & are doing restorations & operating the machines. Respect to UP management.

That train is actually called the UP 150 anniversary train and it’s cool that it went through Spokane.

Being a fan of twin engine vehicles, I would've been happy just seeing a vid of the E units. However, seeing 6936 made my night. 6936 is the real star of this show.

Great work, Dan. This must have been during the time that 949 was sitting in KC with flat wheels. Still makes an impressive train!

With the centennial, challenger and 5511 going to silvys what’s going to become of the two streamlined diesels in the heritage collection are they ever gonna come out again or are they just gonna be museum pieces for the rest of their lives?

Nice video and sound. I have chased 3985 and 844, but never moving in a vehicle. I am assuming you mounted the camera on the roof. How did you block the wind noise? A regular sock would not cut it.

This really fun to watch. Thank you. I have a couple of questions. I know the lead diesels are old passenger diesels. What are they and about how old are they? Also, is an excursion? Can the general public buy tickets for something like this? Thanks.
@whiteknightcat7 жыл бұрын
All the locomotives are products of the Electromotive Division of General Motors. The two lead units are E9 #951 and E9B #963B built around 1955. As the captions at the end of the video describe, this was a deadhead move. The train had already been part of an event.

bcbloc02 Well the passenger cars are ex UP so I wonder if UP will do something with them. Either that or placed in a museum.

What was the 4th item from the front end? Is it a B-unit kind of thing, power but no cab or? Absolutely amazing video and something we Canadians can only see on here. Neither CN nor CP maintain their locos or rolling stock and their equipment all looks like something rusting in a scrap yard! No sense of history, no legacy....if it's retired, it goes to scrap.
Thank you Wendell. I couldn't ask for a more thorough, complete reply...illustrated to boot!

Are those gtel gas turbines in the front?
@NEAFarmKid40106 жыл бұрын
No, they are EMD E9 diesels, built around 1955. Hope this helps! Chris.
@NEAFarmKid40106 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure why they would be illegal since jet airplanes run turbine engines as well. The Gas Turbine Electrics didn't put out any more emissions than a jet engine (I don't think). Of course, this is just me guessing, I'm not 100% sure, I'm welcome to anyone that can set me straight. I don't know everything!
