You can really see at speed how these things are sprung and that they will bounce. And then all that rotating mass at that speed just breaks my brain.

Yeah so the victim in name was kelly yarish who was a middle aged woman from henderson who didnt realize she was way too close to the tracks then she got struck by the side of 844 killing her after a few seconds of being struck ... Sadly since then 844 hasn't ran since the restoration of 4014

Honestly, 3985 was great pulling this train but they should’ve put 844 on it as well. If this show ever goes by train ever again, even though it’s restarted a little, I hope they contract the 4014 to pull it.

They must have a lot better burner setup on the 4014 than 3985 had. The stack is always pretty clean on the Big boy.

It's a very impressive sight to see steam locomotives in operation and this locomotive is a representative of motive power during the historic "steam era" of many decades ago. UP 844 is an incredible piece of machinery and I always enjoy seeing footage of this locomotive in action and I want to see the 844 in person for myself in the future.

High balling it at 75 mph with a 4-8-4 with all that tonnage using steam only? It don't get no better than that. Hulling tons of fright overland in all directions?? Just think about it for awhile... The shear power of steam is amazing! Thank you, the great Union Pacific rail road, for keeping these great, powerful locomotives alive and running for future generations to be in awe of...and this generation too.

My parents bought me a VHS video about this locomotive when we visited the train museum in Sacramento (it was still grey at the time). I watched that video so many times as a child that the film wore out. This will always be one of my favorite locomotives.
