That’s my go to rail fanning area. Beverly used to be a lot busier during the Northwestern days.They would have two yard jobs in the north and south drill working both sides of the yard. They’d use pairs of GP 7 or 9 combos and occasionally a GP38. The wye gives access to the General Mills plant on the north side. The CNW hopper has been in that spot since I started watching in the area 30+ years ago. Great video Red.

My dad, Alfred Bledsoe used to work at Beverly before he drowned from a boating accident back in 1974. The engine house looks basically the same. I know they made a lot of changes on the north end right before the yard. My dad did car repairs back in the day. He would bring home boxes of Grape Nuts, molasses, a barrel of sugar, and other stuff. To this day, I totally hated eating Grape Nuts. I’ve ridden in the cabs of the engines when I was a young boy.

I remember when the Milwaukee used semaphores to cross the CNW on the way to I believe it was the Amanas. Also, when the CNW had a TOFC ramp on the east end of Beverly Yard!

I recently restored a semaphore to operating condition. I have a recent video of it. The TOFC would have been cool to see!

I don't know when CNW removed the TOFC ramp, it was there in the early to mid 70s. Also, the Rock Island used their TOFC ramp in their downtown ramp as well as their turntable.

Great video of switching action at Beverly Yard in Fairfield, Iowa and at the CEANDIC Yard in Fairfield, Iowa, Red! The Beverly Yard switcher had to block portions of both mainline tracks to do some of its work. The drone footage was a great help in seeing exactly what the yard crew was doing. I was thinking that the reason the switch crew shoved the train down that track at the end of the video was to set it out for the road engines sitting on the other track. The train could be a loaded grain train that was heading west. By setting the cars on the track that came off mainline track #2, the train would be all set for road engines to couple to the cars, pump up the air and then start out to get on track #2 to start their journey west.

Great video Red love the work being done in the yard . Always makes me wonder how they keep everything straight as in what cars go where , have you ever seen CN using slugs around waterloo cedar falls area ? I can't recall seeing any and i wonder why. Oh well keep them coming .

Thanks David P! Nope, haven't seen the CN use slugs around here. The Iowa Northern uses slugs, which will soon be the CN. Not sure if the CN will use their slugs when they take over.

I wired up new fuel tanks and pumps, for the locomotives and trucks, back around 1990 in the Crandic yard. Crandic rhymes with sick. Crandic stands for Cedar Rapids and Iowa City RR.

That was some good action. My drone seems to pick up the wires. They say power lines don't cause interference but I disagree. Shoild be able to get a railroad scanner for around $100 Online.
