Friday’s opening ceremony for the Olympics held in Paris has left spectators wowed and entertained, FRANCE 24 Correspondent Richard Werly said. “It was unique by its character because it was a ceremony within the city on the river first time ever, and it was amazing by the show that France presented”, Werly said.

It was incredibly dull and unengaging; I doubt anyone made it to the end. Even the Eurosport commentators criticized aspects of the organization and the poor-quality boats used for the athletes, trying to fill the time between ridiculous dance sequences and unpleasant scenes. I can’t understand how the French aren’t offended by the organizers. Instead of showcasing their nation’s history, they featured men in drag dancing badly.

When South Korean athletes (Republic of Korea) entered the scene, France IOC introduced them as Democratic Republic of Korea (North Korea). it looks like france totaly forgot and doesn't care where and why they dispatched some 3400 soldiers in the 1950s. i'm sure france wouldn't mind or even notice if S.Korea deletes france from its war memorial

It was absolutely BEAUTIFUL. The performances: Lady Gaga, Aya Nakamura with the Republican Guard (pricelesss!), mezzo-soprano Axelle Saint-Cirel who sang the most moving, National Anthem I have ever heard (I’m an American who has seen some spectacular renditions of our own national anthem), the beautiful rendition of Imagine (in a spectacular setting on the Seine), the fabulous hard rock band (with the beheaded Marie Antoinette 😮), rap star Rim’K, Céline Dion - and those were just the musical performers. The dancers - fabulous - exhibiting athleticism and artistry. The cauldron lighting was magical. What was particularly poignant was the dance scene at Notre Dame, truly a celebration of ancient technical mastery coming together with modern technology to rebuild and “make new again” that iconic landmark. Authenticity and beauty. Vive la France! Thank you for such a wonderful welcome to Paris.
