A little larger diameter to hide the cut out and no hole in the bottom would make it even tougher to solve. Be easy to make a wooden version on a lathe.

You should try and crack the Lament Configuration--also known as Lamarchand's Box. It's hard to come by and devilishly notorious to solve.

Why not just put $100.00 in the envelop without signing your names? If the professor know & love you, then he or she would reply back to you. Long time ago, I found a tiger cub. I fed that tiger cub & nursed her back and set her free. 7 years later I came back to that place and was almost being attack by wild dogs. A tiger jumped out of nowhere and killed three wild dogs & made other run away. Then that tiger came to me and laid on her back, in front of me so I can reach down and hug her.

Wait, do you actually have to press and release the top cylinder between each ball? Wouldn't it work if you just press and start rotating/rolling it?

+Georgi I think there are faster ways then the way I did. But you need to rotate the big cylinder to get the balls move completely inside.

if u dont release the cylinder before turning, the balls would just slide of to the other side again instead of falling directly into the hole i guess.

can u press the top cylinder in when the V is lined up with the notch...hold it pressed in..and slowly keep rotating the whole puzzle slowly and just have the balls fall in one by one with every rotation without ever letting go of the top piece that's pressed in? so can be solved in one push and 5 to 6 full rotations?

The mechanics of that reminds me of that puzzle. I have it, but can't get it open. It is a sphere instead of a cylinder, but it has three rotating rings that make up the body of the aluminum baseball sized sphere with a plunger button at the pole with ball bearings inside moving around.

I made one of these. easy peasy rice and cheesey. mine doesn't have the cutout in the female end though so you have finesse it more to get the ball bearings to drop.
