7x16 cargo trailer converted to custom travel trailer with rear outdoor kitchen, office and bedroom.
Thanks for all the comments. Sorry for the sound quality, I made this on my iPhone so I could use my wide angle lens that comes with my waterproof case but it muffled the sound. I can hear it ok if I turn the volume way up, hope you can too. Cheers

@josephcampese5347

@JC....I have never seen any Cargo Trailer conversion video made on your specific question. There's not a lot of focus to your question, either. I mean, cooking what, for how many and how long? I'm thinking you may find some answers if you research competition cooking. The two areas there that come to mind are BBQ and chuck wagon. The participants are everything from big outfits with enormous budgets, to the guy around the corner that does it for a hobby. If you don't find anything on You Tube, check out your cable TV listing. Look for words in the title of the program like, festivals, BBQ, chuck wagon, competition. I hope that's helpful.

Really nice job. I built my first 14 ft cargo trailer into a nice camper in 1970. Since then I larger to a 36 ft. The 14 ft worked OK but I ran out of room and built a 36 footer and it was so big I could put my 18 ft 1955 wooden Lyman in it. Loved it. Pulled it with a Dodge 3500 diesel Dooley with a Cummings engine. Loved it T. Had it for 14 years and a trucker smashed the Dodge and I had to sell the 36 footer. Now I am back to a 24 foot V nose just like yours. All my trailers I use for my mobile studio because I am a professional photographer . Now I am back to a 24 foot V nose just like yours. That is why it caught my eye. Again very nice job. Thanks for posting it. My new tow vehicle is a Dodge Durango so I had to downsize. Thanks again for posting this.

The kitchen was excellent and I particularly liked the rear tailgate canopy, which if required could easily be made into a self contained room with the use of a tarp or clear plastic. I also really liked the deep V-Nose which adds a huge volume of space. Edited to include paragraphs on the V-Nose.

Some really good ideas.....I do like the reverse of the door...believe I would like to do this and attach mosquito netting or similar as most areas in South have plenty of them. I do not understand the audio problem...simply turned up the volume....was fine for me. I have had other campers with bathrooms......never used them and like you, I consider them wasted space and used them for storage.

Oh wow what an awesome idea to turn the ramp over as a roof! The kitchen is very cool too... the layout is very well thought out... Have you ever thought of picking up a bug screen for a 10x10 pop up tent and marking an attachment for it around the kitchen area? It would make a great screen room!
@Wander_for_good
@Wander_for_good 6 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the kind words! Great idea. We did bring a separate dining/screen tent for eating and did try adding screen panels the rear kitchen but they were all too short and would need to sew a 1' extension on the bottom, we thought if the bugs ever got that bad we would do it but only in a few places like New Orleans were the bugs bad enough to need it so we still haven't gotten around to adding it. I have the screen panels stored under the bed in case we ever do need them.

A bathroom? Absolutely Not! Odor, maintenance, black water regulations - a 5 gallon bucket, disposable plastic bags, and an external privacy/shower stall with water tank, pump and heater is simple to outfit and flexible to use. Substantial cost, space and maintenance savings with All of the utility. ;-)

Do you full-time, part-time or just occasionally travel in this trailer. This is a nice set up. I usually don't like outside kitchens with no inside kitchen, but this one is VERY nice! I just wish you had a bathroom. Do you ever have issues with too much moisture or condensation? This is definitely one of the nicest cargo conversions I have seen so far! Enjoy your journey!

Thanks Dawn! We've been fulltiming for the last 6months and debating about continuing for a few more still. We always stay at campgrounds so a bathroom isn't a necessity for us, we just use their showers and facilities, but we did have a small potty in the closet in a pinch. No bathroom saves a lot of space and weight and too cramped for us. When the temps drop around freezing the windows do get really wet, I think most trailers have this issue, we could pickup a dehumidifier but haven't. Thanks for commenting!

Here's a thing about tandem axles. If you are not loaded up it can be a rough ride unless you went with torsion axles. Also, if one tire blows and you don't realize it, the tire can come apart and damage the trailer. With one Axle you will know you have a flat and can pull over, plus you can get TPMS on the wheels with bluetooth monitoring in the tow vehicle.

I can't help but think that the genius with the kitchen at the back might also run into some bad weather problems at certain parts of the year. This might work for occasional camping, but full time living might get a little weird. Also the dependence on the grid is a little too much for my tastes.

@Wander_for_good
@Wander_for_good 2 жыл бұрын
thanks for the kind words and feedback. It is a great idea for shorter people but I am 6'4" so do not fit if the bed is sideways and if one of us has to crawl over the other to get out for a pee or something it is too disruptive. We had plenty of room for two foldidng chairs plus the bed so 4 of us could still eat inside comfortably if it was poor weather out.

@@Wander_for_good Makes sense. If you can't stretch out it wouldn't be comfortable. Looking into cargo trailers to do something similar. One more question. If the trailer is 7' wide on the outside, how wide is it on the inside after insulation and interior walls were added? Thanks again
