George the books reminded me of my dad telling me how he and mom would read these books to each other. It would have been late 40's & on through untill their first 2 daughters appeared. ❤

In 1973 I was helping my two year old’s dad go through college and money was almost nonexistent except for the basic essentials. My grocery store gave out Green stamps so when our toddler looked for presents from Santa, she looked through an S&H catalogue!

These are fascinating selection of items George, and I am sure will do well. My Uncle Maurice had one of the first Studebaker sedans, living in California near his potter Sister Yona…(still collectible). I remember, as a child, thinking his new car he was so proud of was the exact colour of tomato juice, or Campbell cream of tomato soup…I was unimpressed lol.🖤🇨🇦

@ I have learned to appreciate them…with age comes reason…but it wasn’t a true bright red, it really was that dull pinky red of the soup…still an uncommon colour.🖤🇨🇦

A local Buffalo department store, Hens & Kelly, which started in the late 19th century, was always a big S&H retailer with big redemption centers in all of their large stores. In the mid-1960s, Sperry & Hutchinson purchased the chain of nine Buffalo area stores. Unfortunately, the chain struggled during most of the 1970s. S&H sold the stores in 1978 and in 1982, H&K ceased operations. Several of their former stores sat vacant for a very long time. Even today, there is still one old H&K store that still exists in Wheatfield, NY in the now defunct Summit Park Mall, looking pretty much exactly as it appeared when it served it's last customer in 1982. The last store open in the mall was Sears, which closed seven years ago.

@TheAntiqueNomad There's another junior astronaut pin without the ribbon on eBay and I plunged down the rabbit hole and found a Vintage Buhl Junior Space Academy Pinback. Not the same but Buhl Planetarium Pittsburgh had a junior astronaut program after Sputnik was launched.
