The later sv sets chase cards (except greninja) are only the most expensive in their respective sets because they are either in tier one decks and people want them to play/bling out their deck or they are in EVERY deck (fezandipity ex) and the demand for them is huge
@Krausen23 ай бұрын
While there's a nice argument from what you said, I think there's a flaw in the argument with "future/past" pokemons. Raging bolt is basically Raikou, which is gen 2. Roaring moon is basically Salamance which is gen 3. Both pokemon have been popular always so it's almost natural that their alternate forms are popular as well (they are cool on their own), also those are highly playable cards so it's natural they remain expensive in this rotation (similar to terrapagos). The most expensive pokemons in IR, are Groudon, Magikarp, Ttar, etc. All of them scattered between gen 1-4 so while you are right about maybe chase cards not being the always popular pokemon there's still a heavy reliance on older gens.
@pokeoz913 ай бұрын
That's been my argument all along for S&V that the first gens will always hold a price premium but it's cool to see some gen 9s get some air time!

I agree with earlier comments, I think collectors have no choice but to chase the new pokemon because there are no early gen big hitters, collectors want to chase something and other than 151 there isnt any early gen big hitters. If the new sets that come out have older gen pokemon as big hitters then I would bet things will change and at the end of SV era, the top 4 will not be the current top 4 and also willing to bet they will be older gen pokemon.

He's back! It's definitely a good sign that more new Pokemon are breaking through. It's interesting that both Pokemon and MTG seem to be drawing in a lot of new players and collectors at the moment. Not that I'm a big MTG guy but I'm up to date with it because of Rudy. 😂 It seems strange to me that collectibles are doing so well when the world is in economic turmoil. Mind you I suppose opening a couple of booster packs is cheaper than buying a PS5 so maybe it's an affordable hobby for kids. 🤔 Sorry, went on a ramble there. 😅

I would challenge calling any of the oaradox pokemon gen 9, because yeah they came out now, but their appeal comes from them being rehashes of older gen pokemon. Both the paradox mons you ised are gen 2 and 3 riffs. Nostalgia still got a choke hold on the collecting game
@pokeoz913 ай бұрын

I think there are a couple of things you aren’t taking into account with your thesis. I think the fact Pokemon Co is pushing more and more newer Generations into the main SIR spots, also lends to this current trend. But the reality is, early Generations is still winning even then - not just with the Magikarp, but even the Eevee IR in TM being higher than some SIRs of newer Gens, same with Groudon IR in PR as well as the Tyranitar and Raichu IRs in PE. And look at SV base, two of top 4 cards are Gen 3 Pokemon with one of the cards being an IR (while SIR of Great Tusk is the same price as a pack of cards). Also, some of the top cards you pointed out are in fact reimagined Pokemon from earlier Generations - Roaring Moon is in line with a Salamence, from Gen 3, and Raging Bolt is obviously Raikou from Gen 2. I think early Gen is still king in the collecting space, even as Pokemon is trying to push collectors toward the newer Generations.

That’s because there is no old gen chase cards in those sets. Of course they are going to be the chase cards when there’s only new gen Pokemon as the top hits. It’s also not even true SV: Gardivoir (gen 3) PE: Magikarp (gen 1) OF: Charizard (gen 1) 151: Charizard (gen 1) PR: Groudon (gen 3) PF: Charizard (gen 1) The last few sets don’t have old gen Pokemon as the top rarity and the IR cards will likely challenge the top hit in the sets currently down the road, similar to the front half of SV block. Don’t think it’s indicative of any new trend of mindset shift for hobbyists.

You lost me. You continue to point out every previous season the sets doing well are typically gen 1-3 leads. This time we are seeing a gen 6 lead do the best. I dont think people honestly care which generation. But I disagree the 10 year olds playing scarlet and violet are going to have little to no impact on tcg for atleast 8-10 years. S&V base, obsidian flames, 151, paradox rift, temporal forces and shrouded fable all busts. Most have similarities to S&S. To early to tell about stellar crowns and surging sparks, however I think stellar crown singles will crash when master sets start getting completed. Only 1 of the sets are going to be similar to evolving skies or team up. I’d like to point out the boom recently in china for Pokémon. Pokémon has been banned for a long time in china and slowly gaining a lot of popularity combined with their growing economy. I’m sure the nostalgia for them will be these later generations, and we will start seeing less of our gen 1-3 leads
