It sad that it took this tragedy for it to be taken seriously. Our Healthcare system is more broken due to COVID and insurance companies have gotten more greedy denying referrals and appeals. They say patients have rights but I've seen cases where the even after the doctors letters, appeals, 3rd party companies pushing for the patient, still get denied after months of the back n forth. It could be something simple like a specialty medication the doctor prescribes after all else fails. It's sad. We pay alot for Healthcare just to have to fight with them back n forth and most doctors don't wanna deal with the insurance companies. It's Terrible

I find this story disturbing, but as someone who retired from a major health insurance carrier, most claims get denied when people go outside the network of drs. I have always found this horrible especially with HMO who typically has a smaller pool of drs and specialist, even the pop plans are following suit. I remember the days of mostly independent dr offices and claims were not an issue. So glad I have standard Medicare and can go where I want, and I have with no issues, and my secondary picks up the balance. I dont miss having to see only a select group of drs and sub par drs at that. Most of these large carriers are billion $$ companies and their upper echelon dont have same plans.
@whickervision7423 күн бұрын
What is the point of in/out network besides denying claims? It seems literally invented for that purpose.
@MyBizOnlu3 күн бұрын
@whickervision742 it was invented for the purpose of those providers joining a network and then having to get paid the agreed upon lower rate for services rendered per code. When a hospital network is paying your malpractice insurance and that is the only protection you get or savings, this needs to be disbanded, but too late now. Same network then controls your practice and who they employ to work there. Sad but true

United Healthcare CEO sold stocks earlier this year for $15M and had a salary of $10.2M/year. Thompson’s tenure as CEO of the insurer began April 2021 and marked a period of growth for the company. Under his leadership, profits for UnitedHealthcare surged from $12 billion in 2021, to more than $16 billion in 2023. Thompson received an annual compensation package in 2023 valued at $10.2 million, ranking him among the highest-paid executives at the health care giant. This guy made a lot of money and probably cause a lot of pain for insurers and clients. It finally reached a boiling point for someone willing to risk it all and taking him out right in front of a hotel. Seem almost like a movie scrip.

When a healthcare insurance CEO gets murdered and the general consensus is "I ain't saying he's right, but I understand..." is how you know that you've got the best healthcare system in the history of the world.

Do an image search for health care cost vs life expectancy by nation. It's an absolutely horrific graph that should be able to be offered by the assassin's defense at trial.

Exactly. I've been "do not recommend channel" to all the corporate news like MSNBC and FOX (the only difference is their market segmentation strategy) pushing the corporate agenda.

“Let the process play out” - problem is the “process” got us to the current state of affairs. Let’s hope this event forces people to take a hard look at the process and make some serious structural changes.

How many more CEOs are walking around with bloody hands? They all need to realize.
@lenaely61468 күн бұрын
It's SO MANY. My personal experience is majority of the most hyped brands have CEOs robbing the public blind. The blue chip stocks ... Far too many are blue chip because they're stealing from the public... That's my "insider knowledge" 🍀 It's a dxmned shame watching them brag about profits, wealth and the good life while not mentioning how they literally stole from millions of people their individual bits of peace so they could brag about a patek , yacht etc

Consequences. You call it "murder", I call it consequences. How many citizens have died waiting on approval from Insurance for procedures? How are those not murders? IF those weren't then this isn't either. Period.

I was one of those people who were denied over and over by UHC. Had to fight like hell to get my money out of these crooks. Would never ever never recommend them to my worst enemy.

Let’s not forget about the politicians who are bought and paid for with political contributions. Before you vote, investigate if your choice accepts money from insurance lobbyists

All of this scares me. After 17 years with Independence Blue Cross and no complaints, my employer just switched to United Healthcare effective January 1st. Now I am hearing about how horrible it is. I am very concerned for my future health care needs.

Where is the punishment for the deaths caused by health care coverage denial?
@abundance12328 күн бұрын
Denying hundreds of thousands of claims that result in the death of upwards of 70,000 per year. They’ve gotten away with it for so long even CEOs felt untouchable. No security left him open like a sitting duck.

Insurance companies are “practicing medicine” more than the doctors. Medical EVIDENCE shows what needs to be done for patients but insurance says PROVE IT or they deny coverage without even giving a reason. The system is the problem. NOW the problem has the attention it’s always deserved.

It's not just UMR. They ALL do it. I had to fight Cigna tooth and nail to get a MRI & rotator cuff surgery when it was torn completely. I had to threaten to sue them for loss of use of my arm before they approved it.
