The United Kingdom has participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 62 times. They first participated in the second contest in 1957. The UK has entered every year since 1959, and along with Sweden and the Netherlands, is one of only three countries with Eurovision victories in four different decades. The United Kingdom finished outside the top ten on only four occasions at the contest in the 20th century (1978, 1987, 1999) and 2000). In the 21st century, the United Kingdom has a considerably poorer record in the competition, only reaching the top ten twice, with Jessica Garlick third (2002) and Jade Ewen fifth (2009). However, they did finish eleventh with Blue (2011). Since 2003, the UK have finished outside the top 20 on ten occasions, including Jemini's infamous 2003 "nul points" result, which was the first time that the country had come last in the contest. The UK has since finished last in 2008 with Andy Abraham (14 points), in 2010 with Josh Dubovie (10 points), and in 2019 with Michael Rice (11 points).The UK has won the contest five times, and has finished second on a record fifteen times.

My parents, who aren’t Eurovision fans, like to say we haven’t been doing well in the last 20 years due to politics yet watching the compilations shows that it’s not the case. While our songs might be alright, I feel like they’re very very British. Like they don’t work at Eurovision but at home we enjoy them

🌟Lovely to see you all together again! 🌟 The United Kingdom used to be sooo good in the ESC, but it went downhill in the 00's. In the latter years they've been better again. To me, UK:s best entry is from 1994, it was modern for it's time and very catchy. From recent years, the entry from 2017 is a favourite of mine.

The UK were due to participate in '56 but the BBC missed the deadline for submitting the UK's entries. We debuted in '57 & declined to enter in '58.

United Kingdom! The country of planetary stars, amazing singers and groups... Seems to be more difficult to seduce in eurovision contest last years. France is with you! God save the music! In 70's, it was so fun, so good! And it reminds me about Benny Hill 'S shows 😂👍🏻❤️ 2018,suftie is a lovely woman. She helped madame-monsieur and sang "mercy " at the tests, repetitions, instead the french woman who was ill... And she said that she didn't like the song she had to sing for UK...

I forced my increasingly-into-ESC husband to watch this compilation of one of my favo(u)rite countries. Out of everything, he really liked Love City Groove from 1995. Wut. Also, we Americans love Ooh Ah by Gina G. It was huge here and reminds me of my childhood lol.

Blue came 5th with the televote but 22nd with the juries? Seriously? I have no words. And then Azerbaijan wins. I can't make it out. 2011 was weird. Azerbaijan deserved mid table. Rumours going around that pre 2014 Azerbaijan bought votes which would make sense because please remind me how Azerbaijan have done from 2014 onwards? We need a serious conversation about this. The only exception was 2019 when they totally deserved their placing. They even finished badly in 2021 with Efendi. It's obvious the rumours that Azerbaijan bought votes pre 2014 is very very true indeed.

Wow, it's amazing how well the UK did at ESC in the 70s and 80s! Kind of makes me wonder what some of the other contestants were like. Then the rankings start plummeting throughout the 90s and 2000s... and then Britain votes for Brexit! Is there a connection, I wonder? Haha!

Wouldn't we love to win? I'm 40 and I don't even think it would happen in my lifetime but I would love to have the same feeling when we won in 1997 when I was 15 and 16 the month after in June. The last time I watched Eurovision where I thought we had a chance of winning was 2011. I want that feeling to come back once again. I want to feel like Toy did in 2018 when Israel won. I was crying along with you. All that needs to happen is UK to win. I want to see Goy cry as much as you in 2018. Apologies if I've got you both the wrong way round but I'm 40 and my memory isn't the same as it used to be 😂. I'm still hoping UK can win but right now I don't see it and to be frank with past results I don't see us making Top 10 but never say never because France continuously made bottom 5 and they so nearly won last year so anything can happen. Goy, don't give up hope just yet and Toy for that matter. Wishful thinking I know but maybe just maybe it could happen? Who am I kidding 😂. Seriously, if I've got you both muddled up and called Toy Goy and Goy Toy I apologise. Here's to a UK win in 2022. As if 😂. I'm with you!! I don't remember our last win as I was nine, and I certainly wasn't into ESC like I am now! I want us to 'be good' again, but at the same time I have to try and silence this voice in my head that constantly tells us everyone hates us!! I'm sure that's not the only reason, countries like Spain and Germany seem to fare the same as us, however when they do put in a good song (Germany You Let Me Walk Alone) it does get the respect it deserves. I fear that with so many last places and 0 points we are not stuck in a rut and even if we have a fantastic song we're always going to be bottom of the board! 😭

Joy is back! Yay! So many classic songs, though for a bit they really were resting on their laurels becuase I do believe some of the success of some of those were because of when the native language rule was in effect, which explains why the naughties dropped them down. And then they mostly gave up. "Bigger Than Us" ranks among the worst ESC songs ever, so damn repetitive and derivative. But the winners. Wow. My heart goes to Gina G's "Ooh Aah Just A Little Bit", which brought Eurovision to younger me in the States. That's followed by "Save Your Kisses For Me" and "Go". But I have to say I thought "One Last Breath" was the strongest British entry in decades. I'm sad that it's over (though I have to still watch Sweden and Switzerland). I think you guys should do the countries not in Eurovision this year, that have years of great songs, like Hungary, Turkey, Luxembourg, even Andorra and Yugoslavia. I just laugh how UK send polished pop songs or ballads about only love and nothing more all the way from 2010 to 2020, almost always with words "together" and "forever" that so often actually are rhymed))) Really, is love the only theme to sing?))) There're some really big issues with songwriting, that's what i call monotony. For example, Lucie Jones has so many vocal abilities but her song... a power love ballad with mail lyrics "I will never give up on you, I don't care what I've got to lose, just give me your hand and hold on"... what a shame, I just can't take it anymore. And I'm so glad that at least you, being from UK, like something from Teenage Life (2006), Flying the Flag (2007) and Electro Velvet, it's kinda the only interesting UK efforts... and the most of British eurofans just hate all of it and I still don't know the reason and can't even guess(
