The Boeing 787-10 is the newest airline to feature in United's massive fleet. The Polaris Business class cabin offers 44 open suites in a staggered 1-2-1 configuration giving every passenger direct aisle access without stepping over anyone.
United introduced the new Polaris business class seats from the 1st December 2016 and are slowing updating the fleet to all have the new business class cabins.

Yeah I agree with you, bigger aircraft on any routes always works for me. I guess though a lot of people prefer more flights on certain routes, so its not always good for the airlines to have large aircraft on these routes. Though the LAX-NYC routes I find are almost always packed.

I have flown United Polaris pre Covid to London out of Chicago. WOW!!!! It's as good as British Airways, perhaps a bit better than Virgin (only because the seats face AWAY from the window). Untied is also definitely better than Delta and American, whose first class product is very dated. If you do fly Polaris, go for the 767, where the seating is exceptionally roomy at 1 X 1 X 1. United's lounges are also fantastic, but you can only get access if you are flying on Polaris. I've been to lounges at Chicago, LAX and Newark and they are the best in the U.S.. On the down side, United does not offer upgrades into Polaris on international flights and it can get pricey. They do offer upgrades on domestic flights, but it's more of a business class product, definitely better than their competitors, but still business class. Their trans con flights are priced right, around the same as Jeb Blue's Mint, but United's widebodies are much nicer. Sadly American is only offering the A321 out of JFK. United has just started trans-con on their luxurious 767 to LAX and SFO. But I still prefer Newark. Much nicer airport than JFK, easy to get to from NYC and you can fly virtually anywhere in the world out of their United hub.

I do love this video James! In three weeks I am doing the same thing basically, taking American Airlines 777-300ER From LAX to Miami in business. Since I hardly ever leave the US, I never get to fly on these large birds, So I booked a couple of one-way tickets and on the way back from Miami I get to try the 787-9. So excited! Love the ATC on the flight as well as the great vision. United get slammed in many reviews but to me this looked like a pretty good trip albeit a short flight and I can imagine it would also be pretty good on a long haul flight to Australia ( where I live) Well done mate...always enjoy your trips !!! I flew in Polaris from SFO-FRA on one of their 777-300’s earlier this year and had a great experience with fantastic meals. Not long after, I flew Polaris on the 787-10 from EWR-SFO and noticed the service wasn’t near as good. The food was still decent though. And I must agree they make their signature Old Fashioned pretty damn strong!

You only have access to the lounge on domestic f or business on the ewr route unless on an arriving or departing on an international destination on a business class ticket. Otherwise you must be a paid member

Loved the video, as always, but a few notes: You only have free access to the lounge on the premium transcon Business routes, of which there are only a handful, such as this. No more lounge access included in domestic within the US First class tickets on other classes. I flew this earlier last year when I was offered a $75 change of flight from EWR to LAS with a layover in SFO, one of the other domestic Polaris routes and I jumped right on that. As far as within the US goes, it was an incredibly comfortable flight with good service food, and the flat bed was brilliant for a long nap en route. I've also flown the full Polaris service a few times in the last year mainly from BRU to EWR and vice versa and it's a significant improvement over their previous service, but it's just been so painfully slow to be rolled out on international routes.

But the Polaris lounge in EWR IS wonderful although as you can probably imagine can get very crowded in the evening when nearly all of the flights to Europe are leaving.

I know what you mean. Flew from LHR to TXL on club europe and to be honest the space for the 1,5 hour fligh was not nice. I did the upgrade since I wanted to go to the lounge and I was disappointed. Will go to the No1 lounge at LGW in 3 weeks time. So I can compare both lounges.

When I Travel The World it’s a pre-packaged mixed drink by a company called On the Rocks. They’ve taken signature drinks and used various brands of alcohol to make pre-made cocktails. They also have a margarita, cosmopolitan, mai tai, and a few others.

I'm flying back home EWR to SFO on the Dash 10 as well. You got one heck of a great price on your ticket! I paid $1,805 each way!! Your food choice should have more items and your amenity kit will have more items. You may have slippers because I had those on the LAX to NRT. You should have access to the Polaris Lounge at SFO since you are flying international. One last thing-those noise cancelling headphones hurt my ears. Bring your own

Meh. Impressed by the 1-2-1 seating although, as I think you noted, if you’re over 6’ tall, the cabin is gonna seem like a sardine can. The pre-arrival snack seemed like an amateurish afterthought. I will still take AA First or JetBlue Mint over this lackluster offering any day. It should be noted that UAL didn’t forcibly drag any passengers off this flight.

Hey Charles, I think the general impression of "meh" is a pretty good way to describe it. Its nice that everyone has direct aisle access in the cabin, but there are just so many seats, i felt like the guy behind me was just watching me the entire time. I do agree that AA F is great on this route, and JB are one of my fav's.

Indeed lol , my normal flight about 10 times a year is LHR-LAX at 11 hours. So for me 5 hours is fairly short. I guess mid length I guess short is 2 hours.

Try the Latam Frankfurt-Madrid hop of 2 hours and you'll see how biz class should be, a nice pre departure glass of champagne,a spacious cabin and some fine dining.After all we're talking premium cabins here.

You must have not flown United Polaris International recently. The food on our nonstop SFO to AMS last week was barely eatable. The USA United kitchens are the worst. Even the bread was a joke. Why can Air France , Swiss Air and even KLM provide really tasty cuisine and United can’t. For Gods sake United At least buy a bag of fresh bread rolls from one of the many restaurants in the airport before backing up. Same airfare in Polaris as all the other airlines to boot for that flight.

@@paulbielen9233 No they are not. All Polaris flights are or soon will be 1 - 2 - 1 on 787 and 777 aircraft. On the 767 they are 1 - 1- 1, making it the most luxurious BC of any US airline and competitive with international airlines as well. Do your homework before posting next time.

well to me that is an economy plus product including the seat. Such narrow seats. NO SPARKLING WINE FOR PRE FLIGHT DRINK ( we do not talk about champagne…) Meal was a good prem/eco option, but for sure NO C/CL version. In the ninties in F/CL on the same route they offered the caviar service at lunch/dinner time. .. I am always shocked to see how run down UA is now. There is not one ittle trace of luxury for me to perceive here. I am always hoping not praying that they will get better… cause I liked UA in the ninties very much..but this result is pathetic. I feel somehow harmed due to the fact that I had to watch those primitive efforts. (I know, nobody forced me to watch that video..) Thank you James, but thats a 1000% disappointment...Thumb up though.

Love United Polaris. SO much better than anything American has to offer. Catering is superior as are the lounges, super comfy seat and bedding. Of course the service on United is always going to be much more professional than American, which goes without saying. Add the fact that United is the international flag carrier and has a global network and you have a winner!

see? this is what is wrong with United and other american carriers, normalize terrible service by convincing you 'just a domestic flight' because if their legal monopoly over domestic flights was broken and we could fly etihad or emirates to the east coast from California, food and service would be much better I would not have to complain endlessly to United how the employees were rude and I could not get a drink of water when Alaska gives a small bottle of wine to everyone!

stuartleetv Well, if someone is a loyal United business traveler (wouldn't know why, honestly) and their employer needs to fly them to the New York City region, then they're going to fly into Newark. Why? Because United doesn't offer service to JFK. *Zero flights into JFK. Period.* Plus, Newark offers service to more of the smaller cities on the British Isles. As far as I know, Delta only flies from JFK to Manchester and maybe Edinburgh. United serves Belfast, Glasgow, Newcastle, and Birmingham in addition to Manchester and Edinburgh.
