The CZ-527 was, apparently, discontinued a few days ago. I suppose the Zastava Mk.85 will have a renewed relevance in the wake of the former's absence. The Brno mini action started out as a .22 Hornet rifle. A Brno collector might disagree with the following words but they are my immediate recollection.They managed to shoehorn the .222 Remington into it and later replaced it with a longer action for the .223, 222 and .22 Hornet. That was called the Fox. All those rifles (as far as I am aware) had double-set triggers but with the Brno trademark there were always special items, either individual customer orders or short runs for various national distributors, e.g. the shorter barreled Model 4 rifles for the Swedish distributor. The CZ527 is essentially an updated Fox with a single-set trigger.

Another GREAT VIDEO about mini actions Mauser and Howa 1500 which NOW I have BOTH!! I've had the very NICE CZ527 which is a beautiful handy carbine in 7.62X39 which is a pleasure to shoot (doesn't beat me up, I'm 72)!!! I recently picked up another NEAT MINI action rifle that supposedly was USED butt I say it doesn't look like it. I was looking around at BassPro shop's used gun section and saw 2 good-looking rifles being curious type I checked to see what caliber and PRICE. They were both Weatherby Vanguard Camillas, one was 243 Winchester and the other was 7mm08, both were $449.99 which I thought was a GOOD PRICE especially since they looked BRAND NEW to me!! I didn't know much about that particular model but was well acquainted with WEATHERBY as a VERY GOOD BRAND!!! Well did a little research and found out that they were Howa 1500 actions and they were kind of a DELUXE MODEL of the Weatherby Vanguard and it was meant for people of small stature like myself (women and youngsters) but I don't care who it was meant for, I LIKED IT!!! I guess that's why it was in those 2 calibers, both noted for light recoil!!! I chose the 243 because that caliber is a lot more prevalent than 7mm08 even though that's a GREAT CALIBER (7mm Mauser's little brother)!! Walmart carries 6-7 different loadings and manufacturers than almost any other caliber and they got some of the BEST PRICES on ammo!!! They have NO 7mm08 ammo at all!!!😮😢 So that kind of cinched it for me for my pick plus LESS RECOIL!!!😂😊 THANK YOU FOR ALL YOUR GREAT INTERESTING AND INFORMATIVE VIDEOS, KEEP IT UP, SIR!!😊😊😊

The load I selected shot 19mm at 100m, but was at the top end of the ADI book powder loads. No pressure signs though. Honestly I didn't know I shot that good, but it was repeatable, so it wasn't a fluke. Longest shot taken, 270 metres, 9 point red stag.

FYI, that little Howa is great when placed in a MDT LSS chassis. I know, this is a little bit towards the tactical and non-traditional sense, but I must say it is a pleasure to shoot 7.62x39 in a setup that mimics a large precision rifle and simply focus on the act of shooting, not the accumulated cost. Even with surplus, I have had good success of ~2.5" at 200 yards. If you do select the 1500 Mini for this use, I would recommend the bull barrel, as my early pencil model shows heat stringing. Remember to carry amonia or boiling hot water for post shoot cleaning at the range if using mercury sulfide based primers, as found in milsurp. Oddly, I have been staring at Zastava models for a few weeks now, trying to find a particular elusive stainless model for a long-term project. Might have to add that 7.62x39 small action to the x39 bolt collection.

Good morning Mike, after watching the first video a week ago on the Zastava Mauser rifles, I found one in a local classified ad in 264 Win Mag for a couple hundred $$. Picked it up yesterday. It's actually branded a Herter J9 but stamped made in Yugoslavia. The flat checkered bolt knob, floor plate release, safety, etc. clearly coincide w/ the Zastava shown earlier. Beautiful metal work and bluing. The stock is walnut but rather plain, uncheckered, no grip cap or fancy forend but I imagine it'll be a good shooter since the bore looks virtually untouched. I want to thank you for your well informed educational videos that inspire us to find and collect some of these hidden gems!! Greetings from MI.

Careful when describing a howa 1500. Remington all though very similar is not the action that is based off of. The howa has a one piece bolt where the Remington uses a solder process. Machining practices at howa are far better, extractors are also larger. Usually there will be vent holes in the bolt body in the event of a rupture. very evident on weatherby vanguard models. Also I believe the degree of bolt lift is different to the Remington. Good video!!

Hello Bandit! Thank you for the links and your kind words. I receive many notes and letters from more Serbian viewers now; kind and learned people; such a fine country - Serbia. God Bless.

Scopes a 3x or 5x prism scopes are very small. The newer 1 or 2 moa red dots are very small. There is also the UTG 3-9 Bug Buster compact scope. (I know it is chineese but it has very good ratings from reputable air gun writers.)

I am so grateful for your channel, I almost feel guilty for asking you to do a review of the rolling block (I did so a while ago). So understanding that you sometimes take a loss on these rifles, I can wait until you get a good deal on one, so you don't loose money! Thank you so much!

Sorry for being soooo slow. I missed a couple - have my eyes on a Remington rust magnet - but it works and the bore is okay. Thanks for the reminder.
@pseudopetrus6 жыл бұрын
@@UnitedStatesOfGuns I have seen a few rusty Remingtons! Vintage guns can have some rust and even pitting, but they can still shoot well. Please don't feel rushed on my behalf!

They make them in stainless steel as well. Best part is in Serbia if you go directly to the factory you get it cheaper a brand new rifle stainless steel with polymer stock was 44,000 dinars which is around 430 dollars, you can also ask them to make it to your liking if you want something different.

What a great place! I have to head to Serbia once this COVID bug is over. I'd love a stainless one with walnut stock. Fantastic! My little Zastava shoots any ammo under one inch all day long. Superb.

When I get to travel to Serbia this year, I'll go to Zastava and order a custom rifle. I'll ask for a LKM85 in 223 that actually works out of the box.
@MrPh304 жыл бұрын
Wonder how Serbian trials with 6,5 Grendel for millitary use is going, the m85 could be a nice little one with that one included , or a short 7mm. Sako 7x33 or 8mm Kurtz .

In the explanation for the scope I would've said "Its German" and left it at that, that's how I always describe German engineering to people haha.

Very straight - I like that "Its German" ; )

I’ve got (what’s probably) a stupid question, but...are all 'mini' Mauser actions Cock-On-Open? I’m very interested in finding out which is easier to operate between the two: C.O.Close or C.On Open? Great video, thanks very much for sharing.
@UnitedStatesOfGuns5 жыл бұрын
Hi - they all are on open - as far as I know.

I have Zastava 22. It has also incarnated as a Charles Daly and a Remington 5. It has beautiful wood and metal finish. It has a loose action and won’t feed shells worth a hoot. The magazine is a horrible loose fit. And polishing the extractor claws in an exercise in micro surgery. I thought of buying one of those center fires but not after the 22 fiasco.

Thanks for reporting this Joseph. I'm surprised but every maker builds the odd rifle badly; or maybe this is just a bad model as in - all of them; that happens too. I'll keep as eye out for one.

- Which model?M-56 .22 is superb model...
@cs-rj8ru Жыл бұрын
I have one imported by FIME. I hand picked mine. Wonderful wood, great deep cut checkering (rare) great machine work, NO file marks. I had to lightly tune the extractor and magazine. Fantastic smooth rifle. Like I said, I hand picked mine. that's why Century marketed them as the CZ-99. Because 99% of them are project guns.

I think the current trend is to have a field of view as large as possible, hence the large diameter oculars and 30mm tubes. They're not very slick, I agree.
@practicalnottactical3 жыл бұрын
I don’t understand why these Zastava rifles are called mini Mauser, their action is nothing like a Mauser action. They are a push feed action without a claw extractor, and in fact they are like a Sako action. They still function fine but in no way do they have any features of a Mauser.
@thetoneknob44934 жыл бұрын
cz and zastava make some top notch rifles the fit and finish for the price is great! cause if you have looked for a vintage Winchester pre 64 even the beat up truck guns are fetching a a huge premium compared to these! oh man wen you pulled out that cooper! if i had one ide pull it out to look at it evry day! ide probably feel like a lil kid evry time i did! you have a truly fine collection! and impeccable tastes!

Excellent video,....I thought that Smith & Wesson 1500,.....Howa 1500,.....Wheatherby 1500 were just Saco clone's. And that Mossberg bought out Smith & Wesson so the Mossberg 1500 is the same as the Smith & Wesson 1500. And I think the actions are made in Japan and there only small differences between them,... extractors,.... triggers,.... stock's ect. But I don't think their a Remington copy. Zastava looks like a great gun.
@UnitedStatesOfGuns4 жыл бұрын
Thanks again Nakoa, I went in the vault and took out my Smith & Wesson and you're right - it is the same as the Howa and Weatherby Vanguard - which I may mention in the video. Mossberg also rebranded the Howa rifles. I compared the Howa to my Sako rifles and there are similarities between all the push feed rifles. There are only so many ways to do things I guess. Thanks for writing.
