I've given up on Ruger after their defective American Rimfire that they refuse to fix. Imagine a company that won't fix a rifle that refuses to feed ammunition and gets stuck because the bullet hits the left side of the chamber because something is off. The gunsmith has ordered a new stock and if that fixes it then I will sell it and look at CZ or Sako.

This video just caught my eye in March 2023. I have the little brother to your 52. It's the Winchester model 75 with the 28" barrel and peep sights. That thing is crazy accurate. It doesn't care if I'm shooting CCI, Winchester or even Remington Golden Bullets. It doesn't matter. It just guides them right to the center. I have a 100 yard range and a 2" wide by 4" tall steel plate hanging from a chain that I can consistently hit freehand with it. I just line up the blade which is about the same width as the plate at that distance. It's too heavy to hunt with but I'm sure I could hit squirrels in the head at 30 to 40 yards. This video is great! I just love rimfire rifles.

I am 74 years young, and have been squirel hunting for around 62 years. I have had the pleasure of owning both 52 and 541-S, They both shoot better than I ever could. I prefer the rem 541-S because it is lighter.

I recently discovered your channel and enjoy every video. I’ve had many 22’s over the years and have enjoyed them all. I had never owned a Remington 580 and always read about their marvelous accuracy, but didn’t believe it because, how accurate could such a plain looking rifle be? I found one in a shop a year ago and wow I’m amazed at how this thing shoots! Originally it was going to be my disposable tool that I left in my cabin in case it was burglarized, but now it sits safely locked away at home. I did have to resolve a first shot flier issue due to leading of the bore, I’m not sure how many people are aware of this issue?

Enjoyed this video very much. First .22 was at 14 years of age in 1978 was a single shot Ithaca model 49-"lever action" Martini type action. Wanted a Marlin 39A, alas, too expensive. Loved that Ithaca and could hit anything with it, short barrel not withstanding. Literally wore it out-still have the pieces. Now have a Remington model 34-bolt action tube magazine, unique feeding system, and only made 4 years, 1932 to 1935. Love the finger grooves and the sights. My kids are fighting over this gun and I'm not even dead yet. Everyone needs a .22 bolt-thanks for the video and information!

Certainly a step above a CZ, but mostly in the price category. I rarely find affordable rifles that can best the CZ in capable hands. Have shot against a few of the Coopers. Can be beat with a CZ and a CZ can be beat by the Cooper. They are that close in actual performance. Coopers however, like the Browning 52 get the BIG edge in looks. Hard to beat in looks for sure.

I have both rifles and MY CZ455 ie (not a heavy barrel), has a much smoother action than the Anschutz MPR64. Both rifles have about the same amount of shells through it. One thing for sure no one in their right mind would go hunting with a Anschutz MPR64 weighing 10lbs7 oz unloaded.

I'm partial to the Marlin 25N, my friend has a CZ and we've both compared them and we both agreed they're right on par with each other. The 25N is an absolute tack driver, I shoot grapes and bottle caps from 100 yards with it and get more hits than misses, my friend's CZ is just a tad less accurate but his rifle has an extra ten years over mine, though it's not much of a difference in accuracy, my rifling is just a bit nicer. I've always been a fan of the Marlin .22 micro groove barrels, even my model 60 can make decent hits at 100 yards. I do eventually want a new CZ .22 rifle, my Marlin is very precious to me as it's all I have left of my Grandpa and I am loving CZ more and more (I'm getting a Shadow 2 soon, very excited!). One other thing I like about my 25N is the barrel is _just_ long enough to completely silence Aguila Colibri bullets but not long enough to stop them in the muzzle like my friend's CZ rifle, it's barrel is 4 inches longer than mine. Those 20 grain bullets at 600 fps don't do a whole lot but you can literally hear them whizz through the air, and the hammer dropping is the loudest sound the gun makes lol, I love those things.

best .22 i ever owned or even shot was a CZ452 lux with 24inch barrel. amazingly good quality and decent price. 0.37moa (5mm groups) with sk rifle match ammo all day long and totally consistent. i learned very fast not to shoot at the staples on the target when checking the sighting. it holds zero perfectly, and being a tack driver, destroys the staples with every shot.

Same here. I bought the CZ 452 Ultra Lux, and it is one of the most accurate 22s I have ever owned. From what I have heard, CZ had made them up for an order some country put in for military training rifles, hence the longer barrels. Then, they backed out on the order. CZ then sold them on the USA market as 22 sporters. They shoot pretty darn close to some of those high dollar competition rigs I see some people shooting in videos.

I have their 22's in all disciplines. Bolt - Target Model 52, Pump - Model 61& 62, Sporter Bolt - Model 69, Semi-Auto - Model 74, Lever Action - Model 250 and 9422 I always go with the theory: Winchester, it is your Heritage.... Brilliant comment and you clearly know the best vintages. I used to shoot the BSA International - I liked the asymmetrical action and short lock time; all the others you mention are gems as well. The Zeyphr is as you say - a timeless classic - wish there were more around - or someone (hopefully Steyr) could make them again. The original Browning T Bolt was really something; I had a left hand model that I liked to shoot regularly. There are so many gems out there - and the new Lithgow made in Australia could be a top sporter - I hope so. I’m 23 and have fond memories of my first rifle, a Cooey Model 75! Although I’m guessing there aren’t many other Canucks my age that grew up with a Cooey. I’m just lucky I guess 😁

@@pugnacious6290 Both of my sons and both of my daughters, have grown up shooting Cooey's. Cooey's are cheap, accurate and plentiful, and I know many kids still shooting them.

Growing up during the 60s, I had access to a Winchester model 52 and a Walther KKJ. Both rifles were really tack drivers. To this day, I still dream of acquiring a used Walther KKJ or an Anschutz. I read somewhere that the original Kimber rifles were replicas of the model 52. Don't know how true that is since all I see out here are Kimber made pistols. I was able to get model 52 mags from Gun Parts several years ago.

We own 3 CZ 452 Trainers with the 26” barrel. Definitely super quiet with the CCI Quiet ammo.

You bet - in the Trainer - a whisper. Nice rifle.

I also have that CZ, it has a 26” barrel, and I love it. Using low velocity 22 shorts turns it into a parlor gun. And a problem goes a way quietly too. I wish I could find an old full size embellished European parlor rifle. My Winchester shoots just a smidge tighter than my Anschutz with most any cartridge. I absolutely love 22’s made prior to 1960. The 22’s from the 50’s and 40’s all the way back to the beginning. I like them all.

Hi Bob - You'll like the CZ - as you know - probably the best value and most accuracy per dollar out there; and beautiful rifles. I use my 28" barrel CZ model all the time as it is the quietest with CCI Quiet .22. Thanks for the comment - means a lot to me.

I own a CZ455 with a 27 3/8" barrel. I use Browning 1435 f/s 40 gr ammo and indoor 100 yard range i get 10 shots in 1" group. My scope Nikon 3-9x40 prostaff. Total cost with mounts and scope $550. The CZ 455 is an amazingly accurate rifle.

I truly appreciate your no-nonsense approach to the assessment of some very fine rifles. I agree that the price of a particular rifle does not necessarily indicate the degree of accuracy. I also appreciate your mentioning the Remington 541 and 581. My first rifle was indeed a Rem. 581, which incidentally I still own. In 1979 I paid under $100 for it brand new. A few years ago I purchased a CZ in .22 LR. After sighting it in a 50 yards, and trying several different brands and types of ammo, I was rather disheartened by the lack of consistent accuracy. I ended up selling the CZ because I was disappointed in it's performance. To be fair to CZ, the rifle I bought may not be the norm for these guns, so the next one might be superbly accurate. You never know what you get, even with something that is supposedly of legendary quality. I now own two more Remington 581's, and they all shoot under 1/2 inch at 50 yards with good ammo. The Winchester model 52 would make a nice addition to my collection, but as you mentioned they are exceedingly difficult to find. Maybe some day.....
@UnitedStatesOfGuns6 жыл бұрын
Thanks Tom - those 581s are really something - just about everyone has the same opinion. Remington should make them again. I like what you wrote about your CZ - sometimes guns come out of factories and simply don't shoot. A make and model can have a great reputation - but it is the gun in hand that either shoots or doesn't. I had one that would send bullets all over the realm no matter what I did; the new owner reported it the most accurate rifle in his collection. Either he had a collection of unbelievably inaccurate rifles or that rifle just didn't like me.

Very good choices . Wininchester model 52 yes that's the holy grail of bolt .22. Wish i had one but don't well not yet... Remington model 37 I do own , it's a one hole machine.. For years I wanted a Ruger 77/22 walnut stock, blued from their early years production , 8 years ago I found one , i like it a lot, very accurate very smooth action .. .oh and a Remington Match Master model 541 that is a Sporter . Well done you have a great collection.. Golden years of fine guns yes that was very true I remember it well.. I was never aware that the Winchester model 52 was produced in Japan. Guess I'm behind on that one..

Wow, just discovered your channel and very fortunate to find your knowledge and expertise. I have an Anschutz, Weatherby, and the Ruger 77. My favorite is the Anschutz just due to the worn feel (1950-ish, I think) and personality the gun possess's, but they all shoot so so well. Please keep up the outstanding video's, so refreshing and educational. Also, how does a fella date a firearm? Quality Work and Knowledge on your behalf! Thank You, Alaska John

Hello Alaska John! Thanks for the good words! They keep me going. You have very fine rifles - and I think I know what you mean about the Anschutz - classic. If you can find a serial number there are resources on the web for many models that provide date of manufacture based on serial number. If not by the number - there can be other ways to tell. Feel free to bounce off me if you like. Have a great weekend.

AlaskaJohn I don't think I've ever shot an inaccurate.22 rifle. I love my old Savage 87D for some reason. Not that it's any more or less accurate than any of my other .22s, it's just one of my favorites so I know exactly what you're talking about.

I picked up a Savage B22 and that thing blows me away. Honestly, it feels more like someone handed you a .308 because it’s stout, is accurate as hell and full size. A lot of the ones I’ve shot feel more like a toy than a firearm. The best top 2 .22’s I’ve fired are easily the CZ 455 and Savage B22FSV.

I love that model 52. I have a Winchester, and it's a damn good rifle. They have it all. Exceptionally accurate, great looks, and a very classic rifle with class. Hard to get any better than that. Sorry to hear your trigger isn't that good (sheet metal, as you call it). The triggers on 2 of my 52's are excellent. Both adjusted down to 2 pounds, and they break so clean, it would make your head spin. The Anschutz looks like a Savage. As we know, the Savages shoot lights out. I'd just as well have a MkII. Too bad you don't have any Remington 541's on the table. Those are excellent as well. The Cooper 57 is also top notch..
