I would use it as a cheaper alternative to seeing eye dogs. Combining this with a multi cell battery and quick charge and the days of training dogs (expensive) for the blind could be removed. Would love to see robotics work their way into the place of some service animals as many cannot afford to pay for the training of a dog very 7 years and thats not including the food and vet bills not to mention the other expenses. Some due to galleries have to get other service animals besides dogs which leads to further expenses as finding a trainer or vet for those is often inconvenient and expensive.

Yes right up to the second the battery runs out, or there is a failed circuit. Limited warranties cover failures within certain parameters. This thing gets hit by a bike, car, or tripped on, or any other outside influence and its thousands in repair bills.

Nice toys (and I'm devaluing the importance of the whole robotic investigation process) but with such battery lifespan, there needs to be some energy revolution to make them more independent (and therefore also useful and durable). Inside a confined space they could recharge every other round but that limits their range. Yes, Black Mirror's Metalhead had that... incredible battery that doesn't exist as yet.

@blowyourmindscientist64974 жыл бұрын
@@sc3192 There are a lot more Spot robot copycats than you think, as they are easier to build and engineer than a 2 legged robot, like atlas, especially with Boston Dynamics already done the basics for them. They leak nothing else though, and definitely not the advanced stuff. Programming the self balancing things are the harder part, but the design itself is easy to ripoff. Take a rectangle and put legs with advanced actuators at the ends. This one has less advanced actuators, is smaller, because it is ripped off more from the MIT Cheetah. It can run faster, and do backflips, but it's simply because it's smaller and lighter. It cannot do movements as precise as Spot, which is a problem with terrain, and will probably fail horribly with any relatively heavy load, which is not a problem for spot, as it pulled a car. This thing will probably end up as an advanced drone for the public, and will not have all the workhorse, load-bearing, and custom programming features like Spot.
