The Lore of the Fountain Guard of Gondor! 💥Use my link to install BLOODLINE for Free: ✅ app.adjust.com/79gvtdz_10uhbq5 & Get a special starter pack [Available for the next 30 days]
In this lore documentary we explore the Units of Middle Earth by taking a closer look at the Fountain Guard of Gondor. Theirs was a long history which dated back to the founding of Numenor. In these early days of the second age, the high men which forged a realm atop the Isle of Elena were led by a line of Kings. Such rulers had at their side not only a council to provide wisdom but also a guard to see to their safety. Part of this responsibility was extended to the White Tree of Numenor which stood as a symbol of the realm.
Following the Fall of Numenor, the tradition of the Guard would be continued by the line of Numenoreans who escaped to establish the Kingdoms of Arnor and Gondor in Middle Earth. We trace their long history through the Second Age and into the Third Age which climaxed with the War of the Ring. We cover the equipment, organization, and service history of the Fountain Guard throughout this long period. In this way do we also cover the History of Gondor from the reign of the Kings, to the line of Stewards, and finally the Return of the King. We cover the various wars with Morder, the Easterlings, and Umbar with such conflicts as The Battle of Gladden Fields, The Battle of Pelennor Fields, and the Siege of Minas Tirith.
What Units of Middle Earth would you like to see us cover next?
If you haven't already, check out our History of Middle Earth video which serves as a primer for lord of the rings lore from creation to the second age.

We werent these badasses in the movies? Why replace them and the swan knights with cliche incompetent canon fodder??????? Why replace the swan knights with shitty cgi ghosts???????? It makes the gondorian soldiers look very incompetent if they need ghosts to save their asses.

I love it! However I think it should be mentioned if following the books or the movies as Tolkien never mentioned them having plate armor. I do love movie's vision, the same used in this video, but I think it is an important distinction to make. Next I would LOVE to see video about Houses of Gondolin, especially Order of Fountain, their leader Ecthelion and how they marched clad in white, diamond and silver, playing their flutes!

"it would be from the inside that the strength of men would falter." its always such a lovely line. ripe with doom, but Tolkien really did get people. any manner of exterior threat, and you can find countless examples of people rising above and beyond. but there is no seemingly unconquerable threat as moral character rotting away to wickedness and deceit.

We already have a sense of how the late 3rd age Gondor soldiers look like. It would be interesting to see a similar breakdown video for the late 2nd age or the early 3rd age Gondor/Arnor soldiers and their armies, at the peak of their might.

@@thegermaniccoenus2525 If based on the movies, Gondor/Arnor soldiers looked different in 2nd age (Prologue - War of the Last Alliance) to what we see in ROTK. But I agree with your point that they would look different based on which fiefdom or region they come from.
@cognitivedisability9864
@cognitivedisability9864 Жыл бұрын
@@thurahtun6428 the men from the prologue while from arnor mostly would be extremely simillar to gondor as they pretty much just arrived in middle earth after the fall of numenor. In the 2nd age arnor probably looked different mabye even worse than in the prologue when you consider the fact that arnor split in 3 and then went to war against each other. 2nd age gondor is described as being great and very strong. When the vanguard of a gondorian army arrived in mithlond the elves there had not seen a force that strong since the last alliance. And that was just the vanguard of gondor with a huge fleet. Its after the fall of arnor that the witch kong takes minas morgul and weakens gondor through acts of war and pestilence.
@thegermaniccoenus2525
@thegermaniccoenus2525 Жыл бұрын
@@thurahtun6428 Yeah, but we shouldn't based upon the movies, which are fanon, like what they did here. The books have already provided a great source of information regarding to the kind of weapons or armor used by the armies of the Numenorian Kingdoms in Exile. Take for example the winged war-helm of the Citadel Guards. In the RotK, the helms of the Guards of the Citadel were described as "heirlooms from the glory of old days" and the Crown of Gondor, which was described in the appendices as of similar fashion to the Citadel Guard helm, is actually a Numenorean War-Helm that belonged to Isildur since his brother Anarion's head and helmet was crushed by a stone projectile during the siege of Barad-dûr. This mean that the Winged War-Helms used by Guards of the Citadel were of the older Numenorean design. And just to add, according to Book of Unfinished Tales, in the First Age, Tuor, the grandfather of the first Numenorean King Elros and the ancestor of the Numenorean Kings, also wore a Winged War-Helm. By that account, this just makes use of the helm unchanged and far older than the Kingdom of Numenor.
@thurahtun6428
@thurahtun6428 Жыл бұрын
@@thegermaniccoenus2525 Thanks for your comment. It is an interesting point regarding how Numenorean helms would look like. But what I am trying to say here is different.. I admit I have not read the books complete, but I am aware about the books' description regarding the arms and armour used. If I am not mistaken, the most common armour according to the books would always be the simple mail hauberk/shirt throughout the ages, unlike the movies where they implemented fantasy plate armour. I am just curious about Invicta's idea (Or the community's idea) based on what the audience have already seen from the LOTR movies. Like if there was a late 2nd age or early 3rd age TV show (like Rings of Power currently), how would these soldiers look like in those periods if that show follows the same design concept of the LOTR trilogy. According to the books, these soldiers would not look so different, most regular soldiers would be equipped with simple mail hauberk.

To be honest the Gondorians seem very poor in managing their Empire properly. Their traditional racism may be a major factor that there were always people in the East and South who were ready to take up arms and who would stay loyal to Sauron even after he was defeated. Saurons propaganda of course played a important role, but it was surely much more than just that. The Numenorian even in exile were proud to be from the blood of the High Men even after their power declined, looking somehow down not only onto defeated foes but to some extend also onto those who fought with honor by their side and rescued Gondor more than once. They had problems incorporating people from outside of the mainland. And you could see that kind of mindset even in the days of the War of the Rings when Faramir asks Eowyn if she want to marry him and she reacted with some hesitation, in part because she thinks that there very well may be people among Faramirs own who will mock him if he choose a shield maid of Rohan, as if he could not find something better. And that came from a woman who was closely related to the slain king of Rohan, her brother be the new king-to-be, related by blood to heroes and a hero herself, so truly someone who was in no way inferior to Faramir. It seems that the Numenorians often saw the not-Numenorian people they ruled over as second or even third class humans, hardly fully developing some kind of citizenship as the historic Empire of the Romans (which Tolkien in his writings included as the Rum-hoth if I remember right, a Empire which would rise long time after the events of the War of the Rings) which could make people from the colonies over time to full members of the Empire. If Aragorn changed that to the core I do not know but it is a fact that he had to fight on for at least a generation against those who hated Gondor (and in part with good reasons). The Numenorians watered the seeds of hatred Sauron had planted very well by themself.
