There was always something very poignant and heartbreaking to me about Elendil. Imagine having to witness the utter destruction of your entire nation of Numenor, knowing you could do nothing to stop a mad king's folly. Then, after years of attempting to rebuild the remaining Numenorean realms in Middle Earth, you must once again face the architect of your nation's downfall. Then, after years of battle and sacrifice, including one of your beloved sons, you yourself fall in battle against your arch-enemy, not knowing for sure whether or not you had defeated him. It is a true testament to the greatness and nobility that was Elendil the Tall, that he never faltered, never foreswore his oaths or turned his back on the world, but marched on, head high and sword ready...even beyond the gates of the Shadow and into final battle with the greatest evil of his Age. Truly an epic King among kings.

He is a very underrated character. Both him and his sons had close contact with Sauron in his fair form as well as his unfair form. In fact, they might be the only ones unless I'm forgetting someone. I can't imagine what it must have been like for them watching the king come home with Sauron and then falling directly into his evil plans. Numenor sounded like a horrific place for the last several years.

The greatest Númenórean of the Second Age. The forefather of the Kings and Kingdoms of Arnor and Gondor. Faithful when most others were faithless. Personally led the fight against the Dark Lord and paid for it with his own life. I really wish Tolkien had written more about Elendil; definitely my favourite character in the entire legendarium. A gigantic figure in both stature and significance. Despite being such an understated character, he had a huge underlying influence on the mythos, especially the realms and heroes of Men, Aragorn in particular. You can feel his presence in the history and stories of the Men of the West. He truly embodies the nobility and gravitas Tolkien attaches in his tales to things and people of old. Brilliant video.

It is good to see the tale of this Númenórean of great stature in both height and legacy. Even though Elendil’s name was tarnished by Isildur’s weakness for the power and evil of the One Ring, without him the fate of many would have been most dire during his rule, and after his passing into the Halls of Mandos.

@NOIDEAIWILLJUSTUSEHAILEYIGUESS3 жыл бұрын
Isildur was more skilled in stealth and travel, rather than in battle in the books. That is why he was the one more frequently traveling and negotiating while his brother fought battles and devised strategies. Isildur however, also justified means to an end, as he knows he's not a good fighter like his father and brother. The reason why Isildur died is because without the sun, the moon cannot shine, and the death of his brother crippled Isildur's heart as he gave in to the ring's temptation and died for it, failing at stealth and traveling, which was his specialty.
@garmisra78413 жыл бұрын
The Halls of Mandos are set aside for Elves. Men don't go to Mandos. They are not bound to the circles of the world, and their (our) fate is unknown. The Gift of Men became the Doom of Men, out of fear planted in human hearts by Morgoth Bauglir, fear of the unknown, because none have returned from death, save one, and that was by the Grace of Eru Iluvatar alone.

The fact that Elendil died at the age of 322 years old kinda shows that the Faithful Numenoreans or at least the Lords of Andunie had manage to evade the shortening of their lifespan before Eru sank Numenor. Your speech in these videos is amazing!!! I wish you were the narrator of a series of your design! I wouldn't miss an episode!!! I hope somebody comes out with this series of something to do with middle-earth and realizes your potential there. They usually tend to go with an older voice but I think that would be a mistake you're a very very large credit to everything JRR Tolkien and Middle Earth has to offer. I don't know anybody on any of these channels that speaks the different tongues and enunciates the words the way you do. Your extra attention to detail and the amazing feel when I listen to your videos is what gets you the number one spot on all videos of anything I watch and listen to. I've met a lot of movie stars in my time or stars in general I would like to get a picture of me shaking your hand one of these days I put it high on my wall! Few people in this world bring joy to the joyless or beauty where there is none. We re live through to what you say and put to screen see in the videos! By your words we remember the beauty of old, and you do all these works great honor with your videos! I'm not a crazy fan but I have a lot of time on my hands when I'm driving sometimes and your videos really do make a difference on my mood and how I live life!! The lessons that JRR Tolkien put in his works are all expressed very very well in your videos. To those of other listen it allows us to have experience or a wealth of experience in our lives that we wouldn't have otherwise! Now that is a true gift and thank you very much for that!!!! I wish the evil in our world was as easy as fighting a dark lord like sauron. Our enemies don't wear uniforms or even announce themselves as enemies. But we learn how to deal or at least recognize them through the lessons in these books. I would have never read them personally because I just don't have the time. i always wondered rebuild it for who? There are no refugees or anyone left from the northern kingdom just a few hundred rangers living in the wilderness. Gondor is seeing a decline in population as is told in the books and they got minas tirith, minas ithil and osgiliath to repopulate before worrying about running out of space. The climate is also much more comfortable in gondor so why would anymore migrate north to a cold barren wasteland filled with ruins, trolls and hobbits?

I just thought of something. the dwarves in the first age and early second age were very active and actively take part in the affairs of middle earth but after the fall of Ost-in-Edhel suddenly they do nothing. they don't join the numenor in defeating sauron in the war of elves and sauron. when Gundabad their holy site is taken by orcs they don't try and reclaim it despite having the power to do so. When the orcs drive away their mannish allies who provide them with their food they do nothing and allow the orcs to drive the humans away and slowly starving the dwarves causing their numbers to dwindle. when the power of the orcs of the misty mountains increases and they begin to take the dwarven strongholds one by one moving southwards closer to Khazad-dum they do nothing and allow it to happen. The odds of a species like the dwarves to allow somebody to disgrace, steal and humilate them so is unlikely so why were they so paralyzed throughout most of the second and third age? I believe this is when sauron gave the dwarves their rings of power and while the rings couldn't control the dwarves it could influence their thoughts and actions which was why the dwarven kings did nothing as their realm collapsed around them.
